McClinton Energy Group Mustang Series Frac Plug: Key Advantages

The McClinton Energy Mustang Series Frac Plugs have a Patented Nose Cone Designthat keeps the plug located in the center of the casing during the pump down processto prevent pre-setting the plug.

Competitors McClinton Energy Typical Offset Nose Cone Design Nose Cone Design

The Mustang Series Frac Plugs have been recorded being pumped down hole at speeds of 800FPM in the vertical and 400FPM in the Horizontal without pre-setting.

Run-In Speed for: MEG Vertical Section 800 feet/minute Horizontal Section 400 feet/minute

The McClinton Energy Frac Plug is designed to give the user the benefit of positive engagement between two plugs. During the drill out process when a Frac Plug is drilled out to the Nose Cone portion of the plug, the slips will no longer hold the Nose Cone and drops to the plug below. The Patented Crown Design on the Mandrelallows the Nose Cone to set securely in the Crown of the frac plug below, whichprevents the Nose Cone portion from spinning, thereby allowing it to be easily drilledor milled up.

Positive Engagement area between Nose and Crown

There is absolutely 0% aluminum in a MEG Frac Plug, thereby reducing the risk of a bit or mill gumming up.

The Patented formulation of materials that the MEG Frac Plug is comprised of has been proven to have unbelievable drill up times.

Time is Money Spent!

The MEG Frac Plug is very Mill or Drill Bit Friendly. Having a record of drilling over 50 Mustang Series Frac Plugs with one tri-cone sealed bearing Kingdream rockbit (HA Series)

With the quick drill out times for the MEG Frac Plug and the use of a single rockbit, the process saved an estimated 24 hours verses using a competing frac plug. This translates into direct operating cost savings for the customer.

During the drill up process, it is very important that a Frac Plug's components are capable of being drilled up into pieces that are small enough as to not get the tool string hung up or stop-up the choke manifolds during flow back. The combination of the material formulation of the MEG Frac Plug and the unique design of our slips have proven to be a combination that drills or mills up very fast, with cuttings that pose no threat to the possibility of stopping up a choke manifold when flowed back.

The Average Drill out time for a mustang series frac plug is 6-10

minutes per plug!

We have used mills and journal bearing bits to drill them up with. We have actually drilled up 50 plugs at one time with one JZ Bit. JZ Bits are available through us.

What do you drill them out with?

What about the packer elements or seals?

What about the brass nut?

How does the plug set?

What prevents the nut from being pulled through the I.D. of the mandrel?

What is the frac ball made of? What is it’s compressive strength?

We have a three part seal. Two small seals which are 85 durometer and one large seal that is 75 durometer. They are Viton Seals, which are good to 400+ degrees F. Viton is also performs well in acid or sour gas.

The brass nut is the setting mechanism of the plug and is secured in either the end or the top of the mandrel. You can increase or decrease the shear value of the plug by adding or taking away the I.D. threads of this nut.

A rod and adapter is screwed through the mandrel into the nut until it bottoms out. A setting sleeve is then screwed onto the setting tool and the rod and plug are also screwed into the setting tool. When set, the rod actually shears the threads out of the nut creating the set.

A 1” load shoulder between the nut and the ID/OD of the mandrel hat prevents the nut from being able to be pulled through its I.D.

It is made out of virgin phenolic, which has a compressive strength of 18 to 20,000 lb. and is also acid resistant.
