THE RECORD August 2016 VOLUME 55

“God is on the Move!”

God is on the move, on the move Hallelujah!

God is on the move In many mighty ways!

God is on the move, on the move Hallelujah!

God is on the move On the move today!

The above chorus from the song “God is on the move” tells the story of the Canada Mission Trip this year. We saw God moving in people and places in many ways. Below is a list of how I saw God at work. (I’m sure that other team members could add more of their own) Bringing a team together of 30 people when it looked like we wouldn’t be going this year. Providing musicians and a cook when we had neither at first. Opening up the Grand Rapids school so we would have lots of room. Support of Our Redeemer members and others in the form of prayers, finances, trailers, food,

etc. Fast border crossings into Canada (What a blessing!) A team of mostly new volunteers that jelled into a great ministry unit. 222 different children heard about Jesus and His love for them!! Fourteen women at the Ladies circle. (Just a couple of years ago there was only one!) Up to sixteen youth at the Teen Sports Camp Safe travel Lots of laughs, fun and sharing First time carnival for the community with over 200 people there. Growth in the Lord by team members. A request that next year we start a Men’s Ministry in Grand Rapids. Providing a gym for rainy days.

So as you can see from the list above, God was and is “On the Move”. He continues to move in Grand Rapids today as the Word takes root and grows in the hearts and lives of the people there. Just like He is “on the move” here at Our Redeemer whenever we hear, read, see or sing God’s Word. Thanks for making Mission Ministry a priority at Our Redeemer! DCE Mark Noennig

MIND, BODY, and SPRIT

Dehydration can lead to alterations in your body’s normal functioning. It’s important for your body to have plenty of fluids each day. Water helps you digest your food, absorb nutrients, and then get rid of the unused waste. When you're dehydrated, your body doesn't have enough fluid to work properly. An average person on an average day needs about 3 quarts (96 ounces) of water. But if you're out in the hot sun, you'll need a lot more than that. Most healthy bodies are very good at regulating water. Elderly people, young children and some special cases - like people taking certain medications - need to be a little more careful. Signs of dehydration in adults include

• Being thirsty • Urinating less often than usual • Dark-colored urine • Dry skin • Feeling tired • Dizziness and fainting

If you think you're dehydrated, drink small amounts of water over a period of time. Taking too much all at once can overload your stomach and make you throw up. For people exercising in the heat and losing a lot of minerals in sweat, sports drinks can be helpful. Avoid any drinks that have caffeine. With age, some people may lose their sense of thirst. To further complicate matters, some medicines might make it even more important to have plenty of fluids. Drinking enough fluids every day also is essential if you exercise regularly. Check with your doctor, however, if you’ve been told to limit how much you drink. Go4Life has the following tips:

• Try to add liquids throughout the day. • Take sips from a glass of water, milk, or juice between bites during meals. • Have a cup of low-fat soup as an afternoon snack. • Drink a full glass of water if you need to take a pill. • Have a glass of water before you exercise or go outside to garden or walk, especially on

a hot day. • Remember, water is a good way to add fluids to your daily routine without adding

calories. • Drink fat-free or low-fat milk, or other drinks without added sugars. • Don’t stop drinking liquids if you have a urinary control problem. Talk with your doctor

about treatment. More information regarding dehydration, exercise, and safety can be found on the Health and Healing bulletin board by the mailboxes at church. Please let me know if you have questions. Living for Him, Collette Christoffers, parish nurse

As the 75th Anniversary celebration continues, Cathedral Choir will begin its season with a gathering on Wednesday, August 31st at 6:15 pm in the fellowship center. It feels as though we haven’t missed a beat. Your music staff has had a quick rest, arranged a dynamic new program and is ready for the baton (aka pencil) to drop. The measure of our success, however, depends on having all the parts (SATB) covered. We are grateful for our resident singers who continue to faithfully create a harmonious blend. Things have been humming along beautifully and we want to keep the tempo going. Please join us on the 31st with the regular rehearsal schedule beginning September 7th in the balcony. Special note: New singers are welcome!

Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world. Martin Luther

Time is sure flying down here at the CCC. I cannot believe we are in our last month of our summer program! We have had a wonderful summer that was packed full of field trips. We visited the zoo, Buffalo State Park, went to a RedHawks game, many bike rides, pool trips and other fun activities.

School Supplies are out again at the stores and we are again asking for donations. There will be a school supply box located out in the entry by the cross on the lower level. Items we are looking for: markers, crayons, colored pencils, pens, pencils, construction paper, scotch tape, masking tape, folders, notebooks, loose leaf paper, glue sticks, glue bottles, etc. Thank you in advance for all your help.

But Jesus said, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children." Matthew 19:14

Thank you for your continued support of the CCC. Angela, Director

From the CCC Director Angela Wheeler…

I transferred another $5,000.00 from the Budget Support account. We are using $10,000.00 of the $15,000.00 available to keep us current. The average weekly offering through June 2016 is $ 8,918.09 with average weekly expenses of $ 9,393.94. This puts us in the red for the year as of June 30th, showing a loss of $ 12,372.00. I have received some of our Endowment grant money which I thought would allow me to put some of the money back into the Budget Support savings account in August but will now have to wait and see what happens with the air conditioning for the office. Starting August 15th Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

75th Anniversary

Mission Celebration Event

Coming Soon!

Sunday, September 11th

Sunday Sept. 11 will be another exciting celebration of 75 years of God’s Blessings! On this Sunday, we will celebrate the Mission Ministry of Our Redeemer! Guest speaker will be Missionary, Gary Theis of Mission Central, Iowa, who will speak during worship and the Bible study hour. You will want to hear him at both times. Gary will also provide an opportunity to learn about the missionaries and the ways Our Redeemer families might support them. There will be a potluck meal following second service.

After worship, during the Sunday School Education Hour, a special event and fun activity will take place that YOU, children, youth or adults, can all be involved in. Are you aware that there are many places in the world where people, children and adults, go to bed hungry every night? For just 15 cents we can make a meal for a hungry child or adult!

AND that is what we will do on Sunday, Sept 11 as part of our Mission Celebration. These meals, called “Mercy Meals,” are packages of dried vegetables, rice, soy milk and vitamins, a nutritious meal and greatly appreciated by people who do not have food. The goal for this event is to prepare 5000 “Mercy Meals” for the hungry. They will be sent to Liberia through the Orphan Grain Train.

The Sunday school children, along with their parents, will put meals together during the Sunday school hour, 9:15 – 10:15. Adults will put the meals together between 10:30 and 12:30. We need many hands to do this task. It is not hard and we will be taught how to do it.

To be part of this fun and exciting way to help people who go to bed hungry, you will need to sign up on line or on the Ministry Action Board, beginning Aug. 21.

If you can help provide 15 cents for each meal, drop your change in the water jug that will be on display in the hallway after Aug 21. For less than $1 you can feed a family of 6!!!

Steward Builders

A newsletter to help you grow as a steward. The purpose of this newsletter is to share God’s Word so that our members will better understand who we are to be and what we are to do in the light of the Scriptures. It is our hope that this monthly publication will help you grow in your relationship with the Lord and as a Christian steward. The Lure of Money Money is very likely Satan’s best tool to separate us from a relationship with Christ. The love of money can cause a person to compromise his faith. Surely the most forceful illustration of money’s power is the 30 pieces of silver for which Judas betrayed Christ. Judas went to the high priest and posed the question, “What are you willing to give me if I hand Him over to you?” (Matthew 26:15). Judas’ betrayal of Jesus for money separated him from Jesus. Many of us want to grab and hold onto things. Money makes us feel important. With money we build organizations, and we create empires. Money competes with God for our affection. We think when we have money we have everything. Money can become the devil’s tool to control human life.

Rev. John MacArthur, who is in demand as a speaker and author, gives us nine consequences if we love money. Loving money will cause us to… 1. Forget God. Proverb 30:8-9 reads, “…give me neither poverty nor riches…lest I be full and deny You and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’” 2. Stop trusting God. We will begin to trust money. “Whoever trusts in his riches

will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf” (Proverbs 11:28). 3. Be deceived. When we love money, Satan uses money to deceive us. “But the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the Word, and it proves unfruitful” (Mark 4:19).

4. Compromises Biblical Instruction: We can love our positions in life, our popularity, and our golf more than God. God is in second place when we don’t follow Jesus’ instructions in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” 5. Rest on unstable foundations: Proverbs 23:4-5 reads, “Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist. When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven.” 6. Be ungrateful: We read in Deuteronomy 8:17-18, “Beware, lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’ You

shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth…” 7. Be proud: In Proverbs 28:11 we read, “A rich man is wise in his own eyes, but a poor man who has understanding will find him out.” 8. Rob God: In Malachi 3:8 it says, “Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me. But you say, 'How have we robbed You?’ In your tithes and contributions.” 9. Rob others: 1 John 3:17 reads, “If anyone has world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?” On the Lighter Side There is a story about a wealthy man who was told he had one week to live so he went to his pastor and said, “If I give the church $50,000 would that help me get into heaven?” The pastor said, “I don’t know, but it’s worth a try.” In a comedy skit, a masked gunman threatened Jack Benny, who entertained Americans for years and became known for his stinginess, “Your money or your life.” Humorously Benny replied “I’m thinking, I’m thinking.”

A mom is making pancakes for her two boys who are five and three years old. The boys are arguing over who was going to get the first pancake. The mom said, “If Jesus were here, He would say, “You can have the first pancake. I can wait” Hearing this the five year old tells his younger brother, “You can be Jesus.” Either/Or or Both? “The Rich Youg Man” asked Jesus, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?” People have been asking this question since the beginning of time. Jesus’

answered, “Keep the commandments.” Some, like “The Rich Young Man,” feel confident they’ve fulfilled the commandments, but nagging doubts remain. They ask, along with the man, “What do I still lack?” (Matthew 19:16-26)

What is lacking is our ability to keep every law perfectly. Within the heart of every one of us lies our

dread enemy: sin. We cannot do enough good things to defeat sin and gain eternal life. In Paul’s letter to the peope in Ephesus, we are told that we are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). Grace through faith saves us. Then is there any room for works in our lives? Paul addresses that question as well: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). Why did Jesus ask the young man to give away his possessions? It was because those things so filled his heart there was no room for God’s love. Therefore the good life he led and the good things he did were to no avail because they were not done for God and for His glory. It’s not “either/or”; it is “both.” While we are saved by grace through faith alone and we rely solely on Christ and His redeeming work, our faith in evidenced through the works we do in His name and for His glory.

Blessings on your Stewardship Journey
