Christ Community Church Newsletter January – March 2016 ...effectively impacting our community by making disciples of Christ. Renovation Update The Final Lap What a transformation we have been undergoing! Our building project is now in the final phase of clean up and finish work. We want to encourage everyone to continue to pray for God’s provi- sion and blessing in this Final Lap. In this Final Lap we will be com- pletely renovating our Men’s & Women’s restrooms. This will include new tile floor, sinks and counters. Our playground area and exterior landscape work will be postponed till spring. Although we have been faithful in our giving we still have a ways to go to our goal of $925,000. As of the end of November through stewardship & sacrifice we have raised over $883,000. Let’s all work together to close the gap by giving to our building fund. You can give in any offering by writing building fund on your en- velope or online at e-giving.org/ christcommunitychurchroseville . We will also be planning an open house later this year to invite the community to cele- brate in what God has accom- plished through us for His pur- pose here at C3. The Presence of Christ This year I am praying for the presence of Christ to envelop our congregation. It is at the heart of everyone of Paul’s epistles as it is essential to be the body of Christ. We so often fail to have His abiding presence in our assembly because we invite Jesus to come into our meetings instead of us entering into His presence. In other words we want Him to come fix our world when the Spirit invites us to rest in His. Revelation 19:10 says that , “...the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Paul instructs the church that the prophetic presence of Jesus is composed of three essen- tial components. They include hospitality, fellowship and edification. These three com- ponents are in fact spiritual graces. They are the very character of Jesus ministry and the evidence of Jesus’ spiritual presence in our lives. It is important to understand that I am not talking about more pot lucks (although they are nice) I am talking about the spirit that must permeate our atmosphere and the culture of our assembly. This is a spiritual dimension of Christ in our church culture. Let me explain: Hospitality is always associated with outreach to those outside of the body of Christ. It is an inviting spirit that is always concerned with helping those in need. We derive the word “hospital” from its root meaning. The Good Samari- tan is the best representation of the spirit of hospitality. We must begin inviting the needy into our presence to accommodate and care for them. That is the ministry of Christ. The spirit desires to draw all people to Jesus so we must walk in that same Spirit. People should not have to find a chair at a table but in fact be invited to participate in relationship. Fellowship in the Greek language is koinania and it is defined as a deep relation of care. The frame work of the early church states as, “they devoted them- selves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” (Acts 2:42) Fellowship is more than friendship and getting together it is an investment into each others lives through prayer and faith. This devotion to each other is essential to our unity and representation of Jesus in our midst. Fellowship is related to caring. Edification is the purpose of every spiritual gift. It is defined as “spiritual growth and development that is more than just encouragement; it includes any activ- ity which results in more Christ likeness, either in oneself or in another be- liever.” 1 It is the ministry of Jesus as He is building up and strengthening His body. We live in a culture that is constantly attacking and tearing down author- ity and people. We judge and condemn so readily instead of having patience and encouragement for others. If we are going to thrive in a hostile environ- ment we need to learn how to build up and encourage each other. Please pray with me that as we enter this new year we will manifest the presence of Christ in our words, actions and community. We must begin looking and acting like Jesus if we are truly going to represent Him. Let us devote ourselves to pray and study to develop these three characteristics of Christ’s presence in 2016. - Pastor Tim 1.Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words,

The Presence of Christ

This year I am praying for the presence of Christ to envelop our congregation.

Revelation 19:10 says that , “...the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Paul instructs the church that the prophetic presence of Jesus is composed of three essen-tial components. They include hospitality, fellowship and edification. These three com-ponents are in fact spiritual graces. Let me explain:

Hospitality is always associated with outreach to those outside of the body of Christ. It is an inviting spirit that is always concerned with helping those in need. We derive the word “hospital” from its root meaning. The Good Samari-tan is the best representation of the spirit of hospitality.

This devotion to each other is essential to our unity and representation of Jesus in our midst. Fellowship is related to caring.

Edification is the purpose of every spiritual gift. It is defined as “spiritual growth and development that is more than just encouragement; it includes any activ-ity which results in more Christ likeness, either in oneself or in another be-liever.”1 It is the ministry of Jesus as He is building up and strengthening His body. We live in a culture that is constantly attacking and tearing down author-ity and people. We judge and condemn so readily instead of having patience and encouragement for others. If we are going to thrive in a hostile environ-ment we need to learn how to build up and encourage each other.

Please pray with me that as we enter this new year we will manifest the presence of Christ in our words, actions and community. We must begin looking and acting like Jesus if we are truly going to represent Him. Let us devote ourselves to pray and study to develop these three characteristics of Christ’s presence in 2016.

Weekly we meet to worship, receive the Word, followed by honest, inspiring and encouraging discussion. We are currently discussing the "Unconditional Love of the Father." Next up will be "Walking in the Holy Spirit."

We're seeing new faces almost every meeting. We would love for you to join us. In Christ, you ARE a man of destiny! Jeff Sebastian
