What Is Christmas?

Check the list below:

gifts decorations evergreen trees lights candy movies parties mistletoe cookies garland black Friday tinsel reindeer caroling sleigh rides family bows presents traditions wreaths ribbons Christmas stocking wrapping paper snow food songs candy canes

Is the above what Christmas is about? NO!

This is Christmas – Christ!

“Today in the town of David a “Savior” has been born to “you”; He is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:11

We ALL need a Savior!

Romans 3:23 “For “all” have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death but the GIFT of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

At Christmas we celebrate the greatest Gift ever given: Jesus Christ! He truly IS the gift that keeps on giving. He keeps giving us His love, forgiveness, guidance, help, peace, presence, and Oh so much More!!

To really celebrate CHRISTmas we start and end with Jesus. He not only is “the Reason for the Season”. He is the real meaning of Christmas.

“This Is Christmas” Kutless

Do you find it hard to sleep tonight Resting by the Christmas lights? Could there be something you forgot? Beyond the bows, and mistletoes The tree with presents wrapped below There's more to this than you had ever thought? Have we lost the reason that we celebrate each year? What is Christmas? If there never was a Savior wrapped in a manger What is Christmas without Christ? Remember how the story goes God's gift was wrapped in swaddling clothes Beneath the star, one great and holy night The shepherds heard the angels sing The wise men brought an offering Peace on Earth began in Bethlehem Have we lost the reason that we celebrate each year? What is Christmas? If there never was a Savior wrapped in a manger What is Christmas? If the angels never sang 'Glory to the new born king?' What is Christmas without Christ? There'd be no Glo-oo-oo-oo-ria In excelsis deo Glo-oo-oo-oo-ria In excelsis deo What is Christmas? If there never was a Savior wrapped in a manger What is Christmas without Christ? This is Christmas It’s all about the Savior wrapped in a manger This is Christmas Because of Jesus Christ This is Christmas Because of Christ Because of Christ

humor It was Sunday after Christmas at St Peter and St Paul’s church in Borden, Kent, England. Father John was looking at the nativity scene prior to packing away the figures when he noticed the baby Jesus was missing from the scene. Immediately, Father John turned towards the vicarage in order to call the police. But as he was about to do so, he saw little Harry with a red wagon, and in the wagon was the figure of the little infant Jesus. Father John walked up to Harry and said, ‘Well Harry, where did you get the little infant?’ Harry replied honestly, ‘I took him from the church, Father John.’ ‘And why did you take him?’ With a sheepish smile, Harry said, ‘Well, about a week before Christmas I prayed to little Lord Jesus. I told him if he would bring me a red wagon for Christmas, I would give him a ride around the block in it.’ DCE Mark Noennig

afTernoon aT The movies For December we will watch “Christmas Child”. It is the story of a journalist who is drawn to a Texas town by a mysterious photograph. While there he sees the towns life sized nativity and uncovers secrets about his past and his family.

Join us on Sunday, Dec 16th at 2:00 PM in the College room. If you feel so led, bring a Christmas “goodie” treat to share!

Message from the CCC This is an exciting time of year for the children and staff of the CCC. We are making hand turkeys and remembering God’s blessings to us. Our Disciples group made a recipe for Turkey that I want to share. The CCC is hosting an advent dinner on December 5th. Spaghetti and meatballs will be served. Come enjoy a meal with us and support the CCC. We are also preparing for our Christmas Program. Please join us in our celebration of Jesus’ Birth on December 13th at 6:30pm. We will have a cookie reception after the program. As always, we are grateful to the members of Our Redeemer for your generous support of the CCC. You make our work possible. Thank you.

SOCK DRIVE FOR THE HOMELESS: GOAL OF 300 PAIR Family Health Care Homeless Health Service serves homeless individuals with mental health or addiction issues who have been refused by other shelters. One of their greatest needs are for clean socks. These socks can be used socks! Our goal is for 300 pair. Connect with your family, friends, and coworkers to collect socks for the homeless and place them in the box by the giving tree. If you don’t have used socks new socks are more than welcome!

THE GIVING TREE: CHRIST’S CARE FOR CHILDREN Imagine being a young child without a mother or father, not knowing where to get food, needing clothing and help for everyday survival. This year God is giving us the opportunity to help these orphans through the giving tree. The Christ’s Care for Children: Kenya program offers more than just food and shelter. It is also designed to equip children with everything necessary for success in life. The children learn to plant, harvest, cook, tend to livestock, clean the compounds and care for their personal space. The children begin and end each day with devotions. Choir practice, Bible study and catechesis occurs throughout the week, too. The children are full, contributing members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kenya (a partner church of the LCMS) and some teach Sunday school classes for the younger students. On the giving tree you will find envelopes with dollar amounts, you may take as many envelopes as you wish or write a check for any amount. Checks should be made out to Our Redeemer and placed in the offering plate.

Message from the Christian Children’s Center

Stewardship Sunday……….RUN??

What is stewardship?

Wikipedia says, “stewardship is the acceptance of responsibility to shepherd and safeguard the valuables of others”.

Okay, so what does this mean?

Dave Ramsey simplifies this for us and says, “a steward is a manager, not an owner”. He takes it a step further to say “You and I are asset managers for the Lord”.

Good to know, umm….why are you telling me this?

It just so happens that Our Redeemer will have Stewardship Sunday on December 9th. Our giving areas continue to be firstfruits, time and talent with none more important than the other.

So, what should I do in preparation for this day? You should……

Review yoUr giviNg

The stewardship committee asks that you consider reviewing your personal giving situation. When was the last time your thought or prayed about it? Could it be time to freshen the sheets?

Take a little time to get familiar with the format on the right. We also have automated giving options including ACH and the Simply Giving App if you would prefer.

Lastly, we will be administering the time and talent survey this year. We will continue a paper copy option but will also be sending an email with a survey link for all the tech savvy members, pick the option you like best!

Gracious & Loving Father, You have created each of us, and have given us this great gift of life. Help us to treasure each moment, the happy ones and the sad ones, the healthy ones and the weak ones. When our lives are running smoothly, help us to turn to You in thanksgiving and praise. When our lives are in turmoil, help us turn to You for comfort and strength. The Coming King

What God has done for the world is most intimately expressed in the life of His Son Jesus. In The Coming King, explore God’s marvelous work through the lives of those who were on the scene at the time of the Savior’s birth. The coming Savior’s birth was foretold by the prophets of old and later experienced by many who were on hand as He came into this world. Mary and Joseph, Zechariah and Elizabeth, Simeon, shepherds, wise men from the east, a legion of angels, and even King Herod—all play their parts in the Gospel narratives that speak of the Savior’s incarnation. Explore the many ways their lives were touched as God became one of us, for each of us, in The Coming King.

December 2 "Reality Therapy" Speaker: Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler The book of Ruth deals with unimportant people and unimportant matters but deals with them in such a way as to show that God is active in ordinary lives-like yours and mine. Ruth's story became an important part of the story of Jesus. Listening to God's work in her life can rescue us from dead end delusions and bring us into what is most real-a Jesus-centered reality. (Ruth 1-2)

December 9 "Redeemer with a Capital R" Speaker: Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler When people use the word "redeem" outside of religious context, they tend to use it in a commercial sense-redeeming points from purchases or casino tokens for cash. In the Bible, the word "redeem" is used in a family setting. In the story of Ruth, Boaz is a "kinsman redeemer," who points to Jesus, our capital-r-Redeemer. Jesus has done more than pay our points. He redeems by bringing us into his clan, his people, his household, that we might be with him forever. (Ruth 3-4)

December 16 "In Anxious Times - Rejoice! " Guest Speaker: Rev. Dr. Anthony (Tony) Cook Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. With anxiety on the rise, the Apostle Paul's call to "rejoice always" seems all but unobtainable. While there are many helpful ways to cope with society's increasing anxiety, Paul points us to a frequently overlooked source of joy and peace, God's grace in Christ. (Philippians 4:4-7 )

December 23 "The King's Strength " Speaker: Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler A true king's strength is seen, not in vaults and arsenals, but in the loyalty of his people. We celebrate the birth of the King who won the victory, not by taxing his subjects and killing his enemies, but by serving, loving and dying for them. By his resurrection, He destroyed the power of sin and lends us strength to become His loyal subjects. (Luke 1:26-56 )

December 2: Rev. Michael Nielson, Trinity Lutheran Church, Fisher, MN, and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Euclid, MN, presents the message: “Singing to the King” based on Luke 19:28-40. Today’s Lutheran Hour program is “The City That Forgot About Christmas”. In it, Benji thinks the hustle and bustle of Christmas only makes people more grouchy but grandfather has a different view. December 9: Rev. Daniel Voth, Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, presents the message: “The Second Sunday of Advent” based on St. Luke 3:1-14. Today’s Lutheran Hour program is “The Stableboy’s Christmas”. In it, a family experiences the excitement of the holidays, while trying to keep the true meaning of Christmas at the center of their preparations. December 16: Rev. Dr. Jamison Hardy, President of the English District LC-MS delivers today’s message: “Do Not Be Anxious” based on Luke 7: 18-28 . Today’s Lutheran Hour program is “Red Boots for Christmas”. In it, a small shop in the small town of Friedensdorf doesn’t have any Christmas decorations, and no Christmas spirit inside the store. December 23: Rev. Dr. Matthew Harrison, President of the Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod leads our Christmas worship service. The message is based on Luke 1: 39-45. Today’s Lutheran Hour program is “Christmas Is”, which takes a journey back in time to the first Christmas with Benji and Waldo to rediscover the feeling and message of this significant day. December 30: Rev. Nabil Nour, third Vice President of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and Pastor at Trinity Lutheran in Hartford, South Dakota presents today’s message: “The Firstborn” based on Exodus 13: 1-2. Today’s Lutheran Hour program is “The Puzzle Club Christmas Mystery”. It’s Christmas, and some mysterious events have occurred which require some special investigative talents.
