Corrections from November Tusker Times

Greetings all,

In last month’s Tusker Times I miss captions two photos.

They are here with the correct names and awards.

My apologizes to both Ladies. I am still learning names and faces. I will en-deavour to be more careful (and check with a scribe or two) in the future.

Thank you for your understanding,

Eilidh

From Their ExcellenciesJoyous Greetings Tir Ysgithr! We find ourselves looking forward to the Yule season with enthusiasm and we hope this is true for all of you as well. The cooler months tend to get very busy for everyone and this amazing Barony is no exception. By the time you read this, prospective candidates letters for Baron and Baroness should have been received and reviewed by the Crown and the Kingdom Seneschal. Those that meet with Their Majesties approval will be announced via Facebook and you will find their letters in this issue of the Tusker Times for your review. On December 22nd there will be a meet and greet of the candidates, so all who attend will have an opportunity to interact with them and to discuss ideas. For our part, having done the job of Baron and Baroness of this, the best and most amazing Barony, it has been an incredible experience. We have for the last three years dedicated ourselves wholeheartedly to bearing the responsibilities of guiding the group and its members. It is certainly one of the most satisfying things any couple can do within the SCA. You, the populace, have been so wonderful to us in your support and you have shown us a genuine interest to see the Barony thrive and prosper. We have been so proud of all of you and we have been extremely satisfied with our roles in helping the group be a better place.Albeit, we have recently taken time to reflect upon many things and we have come to the determination that we will choose to not submit a letter of intent to continue our reign as Baron and Baroness of Tir Ysgithr. This decision will provide an opportunity to allow for another very capable couple to step forward and for them to provide a new and fresh perspective for the group. We have every intention to continue to participate within the Barony and in the Kingdom, so do not fret as we will still be here. It is simply time to allow for an opportunity for growth and invigoration for the group, and to allow for us to attend to other matters and re-focus so we can better serve in the future.November was an extraordinarily wet month for us all (any rumors that His Majesty (who was Crown at last Estrella) is in some way responsible are simply untrue and should be treated as hearsay). So much so that the long anticipated Art of War event had to be cancelled due to the site being too wet for use. It is a great sadness to us that this event didn’t get the opportunity to prove how great an idea it is. Maybe it will get another chance next year (we will see). Rained out events and practices are sometimes a fact of life and we thank everyone for helping out where it was needed and for taking it all in stride. Many, many things are in store for us all this holiday season. The Crest Tourney was so much fun last year that we are having it again and there is much business to be done so it should be a great day. There are the various Yule celebrations across the Kingdom and we encourage all to travel and participate where you can. The annual Winterhaven Caroling looks to be a great time to get out and see the amazing displays while having a great time singing and carousing in warm garb. The Baronial Twelfth Night Parties are looking pretty fabulous and we look forward to a great time of merriment with you all.Our Barony is host once again for the Kingdom 12th Night, Fighting Collegium, and Southern War Practice at the beginning of January. As if that weren’t enough, the Barony is also host to the Spring Crown Tournament at the end of January! There the 101st Crown of Atenveldt will emerge victorious on the field and we thank everyone who will be putting forth their best effort to help host these great events.Heads of Households, if you haven’t gotten us your numbers for your camps at the upcoming Estrella, please do so as soon as possible. We have been asked to produce our information by mid-December and if you don’t get it to us by then, you might end up in a much tighter camping space than otherwise. We wish you all peace and joy in this season. In Service to Barony and Crown We Remain,

Brendan TigraBaron Baroness

Baronial Letter of IntentLady Anastasia MacEwan de Ravenna & Lady Juliana Ruadh MacLachlanUnto Their Highnesses Morgan and Elizabeth: Their Excellencies Brendan and Tigra; the Kingdom Seneschal Mistress Rowan Bridget Blackmore; and the populace of the Barony of Tir Ysgithr, do we Lady Anastasia MacEwan de Ravenna and Lady Juliana Ruadh MacLachlan, submit this letter of intent and desire to step forward as candidates for your next Baroness and Baroness. We are more than willing to be installed with a three year warrant for this position. We are sisters and feel that we bring a variety of skills, abilities and ideas to share with the barony. We offer management skills, event planning, contract negotiations, etc. We are well versed in computer skills and social media. We bring abilities in the archery community for the past 15 years. We are both skilled in sewing for over 20 years, making our own garb as well as regalia for the barony and a kingdom office. These skills have been shared with members of the barony and will continue to teach and assist all those wanting to learn. Here is a bit of our background within the Society for Creative Anachronism. We have been members of the SCA for the past 25 years. We started our journey in the Kingdom of Atlantia, learning the basics of what to wear, finding a name and device to be registered. We moved to the other side of the known world to the Kingdom of Caid where we both began with learning to shoot archery. We became authorized archers, and Anastasia went on to train and become a certified marshal. She became the Archery Lieutenant for the Shire of Careg Wen and assisted the Captain in setting up the range, ensuring the safety of all attendees, and teaching new archers and marshals. Our final move was to the wonderful Kingdom of Atenveldt and the Barony of Tir Ysgithr, which we call home. This is where we became truly involved in the SCA. Juliana has been Deputy Sheriff for three years and Regalia officer for two years. She has made regalia for the Sheriff’s Office and a portcullis banner for the Barony of Tir Ysgithr, and The Watch at Estrella War. She created a household which she is the Matriarch and has made garb for members of her household.Juliana has also taught sewing to members of her household, designed her household device and household banner. Juliana has volunteered several times at Estrella War for the watch, gate and wherever else she was needed. She has continued to shoot archery and is supportive of the archery community. She also expressed an interest in the scribble arts, and various types of adorning/accessorizing her garb, and has taken classes to further her

skills in the arts.Anastasia began her involvement in the archery community while in the Kingdom of Caid and has continued since she arrived in the Barony of Tir Ysgithr. She has taught several new archers as well as instructed other archers so they could improve their skills. She maintained the baronial archery trailer at her home for several years until she got approval to store it at our practice range at Precision Shooting Equipment. (PSE). She became an Archery Lieutenant for nine years, and has been the Archery Captain going into her third year. Anastasia has established a Thrown Weapons Program for the Barony of Tir Ysgithr and she has completed the requirements to become a Thrown Weapons Marshal.Anastasia was asked to design a baronial award of the Boar Counter-Ermine, established by then Baron Tigheamain and Baroness Sablha. We both made several dozen of the various baronial awards given by the sitting landed Barons and Baronesses since our arrival to the barony. We have made Atenveldt and most importantly the Barony of Tir Ysgithr, The Gem of Atenveldt, our home. We are very active in both this Barony and this Kingdom. We have watched our nobles as well as spoken to our cousins in other baronies regarding the attributes and leadership of their offices and believe we have a good basis to enhance our barony. We have also spoken to past landed nobles and asked for suggestions on how to maintain and/or improve this wonderful barony. We will welcome with open arms any and all suggestions from the populace that will further enrich our barony. It is our mission to recruit new members to the barony, as well as reach out to members that have not participated in a while and see what we could do to bring them back to participate in the barony once again. With bringing Thrown Weapons to the barony, it’s our hope to have the other martial arts being heavy and rapier fighters to come out and cross train in another martial art forms. Juliana and Anastasia are wanting to become more involved and support all facets of the Barony to include heavy fighting, rapier, arts and sciences, as well as supporting the College of St. Felix. In closing, we Anastasia and Juliana will defend the realm, support the populace, educate those wishing to learn, encourage new members and returning populace to maintain the enjoyment of this wonderful organization and will strive if chosen to serve our Barony and Kingdom.Yours in Service to the Dream,Lady Anastasia MacEwan de RavennaLady Juliana Ruadh MacLachlan

Baronial Letter of IntentMaster Ruadhan MacDubghail and Mestrinde Thyri ingen Aedain ui RigainUnto Your Royal Majesties Morgan and Elizabeth, Your Excellency Rowan, and Your Excellences’ of Tir Ysgithr Brendan and Tigra, do we Master Ruadhan MacDubghail and Mestrinde Thyri ingen Aedain ui Rigain send greetings,After consideration, we respectfully submit to you our letter of intent for the position of Baron and Baroness of Tir Ysgithr and our qualifications. We are aware of the obligations and responsibilities of this position and are prepared to commit to the three year warrant period and extend our paid membership throughout the warrant period. We understand that if chosen as a candidate, our letter of intent will be published in the baronial newsletter per the policies and procedures required. We believe connection and investment in shared interests and desires are what makes The Dream come alive. Our greatest hope is to inspire the populace to find The Dream, and their home, here in the Barony by demonstrating our own investment in its people and activities. We believe the nobility must lead by example. Giving time and energy to support the Barony not only as ‘examples of courtesy and grace,’ but as being willing to do the work it takes to promote community and support all Baronial activities. Through this example, we hope to inspire the populace to do the same work so that as many members as possible are involved in the Barony’s successes. We aim to demonstrate to the populace that their precious free time will be best spent with us; that, though there are many options for entertainment and leisure time, Tir Ysgithr is home and they are always welcome. We have the desire to help facilitate and contribute to The Dream for all of those who are in the Barony. From helping a new fighter put his first kit together, to the fledgling artisan who wants to try something new but is unsure where to start. To inspire someone who’s been in the Society for many years and help them find a renewed interest. We want to be that guiding light to all the things that bring us together as one. We look forward to the opportunity to shape a bright future for our Barony, with the intent to uphold its long traditions while finding ways to bring excitement and variety to its events. The future has so much potential. We intend to propose some changes and plan to confer with our officers, heads of house, and the populace on these changes; as getting their buy-in is essential to successful events. We would like to see Event Stewards be given more creative license to host their events and have some ownership in the success of these events. Furthermore, we would like to see officers given more autonomy to be creative with their offices within the rules. Combined we have over 30 years of experience in the SCA. I, Master Ruadhan, O.P., have been a paid member of the SCA beginning in Caid and, while in the military, traveled across the Known World and experienced the many cultures

of the SCA. I settled down in the Barony March of Mons Tonitrus where I submerged myself into the service side of the organization, stepping up as Baronial Seneschal under Charles and Christine DeLacy in 2006. Along with my experience as a Baronial Seneschal, I have also taken on a variety of other duties both at the baronial and kingdom level. I held the position of Baronial Knight Marshal during the tenure of Karl and Samara, as well as Kingdom Archery Champion during the reign of Morgan and Livia I. I have been the Main and the Site Steward for Southern Crusades on several occasions while it was at both Winkleman and the Marana Rodeo Grounds. Furthermore, I have experience with the inner workings of a Royal Court through multiple times serving as Crown Steward. In February 2018, I was elevated to the Order of Pelican during the reign of Morgan and Elizabeth III for my work within the both Baronies and the Kingdom. I have interacted as a dual member of both Mons Tonitrus and Tir Ysgithr for many years and can be seen just as often at Tir Ysgithr events as I can at Mons Tonitrus events. I feel I have been a core figure within the fabric that makes up Tir Ysgithr thus leading me to relocate physically to the Tir Ysgithr area several years ago. I, Méstrinde Thyri, O.P., have been a member of Tir Ysgithr since 2005. I began my time with the Barony immediately as an officer under Sean South and Brigid. I first became the Regalia officer and learned the workings of the Barony. In 2006, under Ivan and Ian’ka, I became the Baronial Archery Marshal. During the two years I held this position, I effectively negotiated with the PSE site management and established a regular archery practice for the Barony. After my tenure as Archery Marshal, I stepped into the role of Emergency Deputy Baronial Seneschal under Dona’ Perin and then fully into the role of Baronial Seneschal beginning in 2009 under the tenure of Tiernan the Hound and Sabilla. At the end of my warrant, I became the Emergency Deputy Kingdom Seneschal under His Grace Craven. When he won Crown Tournament in Fall 2011, I stepped into the role of the Kingdom Seneschal. From 2011 to 2013, I held the office of Kingdom Seneschal working with a variety of Crowns, Barons and Baronesses, and Officers. In 2016, I was the Main Event Steward for Southern Crusades. I was elevated to the Order of the Pelican in October 2012 during the reign of Thomas and Illora for my work both in the Barony and in the Kingdom. I have been woven in as a part of the Barony for my entire time in the Society. If selected for the position, we will bring all of our enthusiasm, dedication, and love of The Dream that has made us the Peers of the realm that we are today.Master Ruadhan MacDubghailMestrinde Thyri ingen Aedain ui Rigain

LandofTheSun.orgWelcome to the Land of the Sun, the Kingdom of Atenveldt, Arizona’s local chapter of the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA.) In some ways, the SCA is a game and in other ways it is a social club. However, at its heart, it is a 501c3 educational, non-profit organization, dedicated to the recreation of medieval culture.

We recreate arts and sciences (cooking, sewing, brewing, blacksmithing, etc.); explore medieval styles of combat and war; and lighten the heart with flirtations of courtly love through poetry, dance, and song.As you start your journey into the SCA, please feel welcome to contact our Newcomer Officer, Joanne Cole. She can answer questions about how you can come join us!
