Newsletter 19, 19 December 2018 Message from the Principal Dear Parents, Last Day - All children will be dismissed this Thursday at 3:15pm. School assembly will be held in the school hall at 2:15pm on Thursday to farewell our Grade 6 students and announce our new 2019 School Captains. School resumes for students in Grades 1 to 6 on Thursday 31 January 2019 at 9am. Prep classes will commence on Wednesday 6 February. Our 2018 school year is soon coming to a close and it has been my absolute pleasure to have worked alongside such dedicated staff, students and the school community. I have thoroughly enjoyed leading our whole school community in developing our students. I look forward to continuing this work in 2019. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the volunteers at our school who dedicate a significant amount of time helping in the school canteen, the office or assisting in the classrooms. This is greatly appreciated and we send our sincere thanks to you all. Lastly, thank you to our School Council members for the commitment and contribution you have made to our whole school community. We have some staff also departing our school at the end of the year. I would like to thank Lana, Trish, Sonia and Peter for their wonderful work in our school during their time here and wish them well for the future. WHOLE SCHOOL PICNIC On Wednesday 12 December, SAEPS hosted its end of year Whole School Picnic where each grade performed on stage in front of a large audience. We managed to escape the rain and it was a great opportunity for our whole school community to come together and celebrate the year with family, friends, students and staff. Thank you to all our staff for their organisation and to our students and families who attended. Patrons of St Albans East Primary School. In 2015 the School Council introduced a new award to acknowledge the significant contributions made to the students and learning community of St Albans East Primary School. Staff and School Council are asked to nominate worthy recipients. These nominations are then presented to School Council to be voted and approved. This is a way for the school to recognise the efforts of individuals that have made significant contributions and as such, they will be listed on our honour board in the school foyer. I would like to congratulate Ann Degabriele who will be inducted as a Patron of SAEPS at Graduation on Tuesday night. Ann has served the St. Albans East Primary School community for approximately 30 years and retired in April 2013. She made a major contribution to the SAEPS School Council as a parent member. She was actively been involved in policy development, school finance, building and grounds management, DSP applications, employment of Student Support Officers and Principal selection panel. Ann was a student at SAEPS attending from Prep to year 6 and much later her own children and grandchild attended. Ann was also instrumental as school Business Manager from 1985, her work ethic has contributed to St Albans East PS strong financial position. Well done Ann! Grade Six Graduation Our Grade 6 students will celebrate a very special night on Tuesday evening at The Starlight Room, Taylors Lakes Hotel. I would like to say thank you in advance to the Grade 5/6 teachers for their preparation of this event, but most importantly the wonderful Grade 6 students for who are very much part of our whole school community. I was most impressed with their efforts and must say this has been an outstanding group of Grade 6 students who have been a pleasure to work with. On behalf of the staff, I would like to express our best wishes to our Grade 6 students who are embarking on

a new and exciting phase of their lives. We hope the future for them is successful and happy! I would like to wish everybody a safe festive season, and look forward to welcoming you back in 2019.

Paul Busuttil Principal

December Update From Your School Council The end of the year is almost upon us and what a busy year we have had! We had our 4 yearly school review, family STEAM night, working bees, the school picnic & concert and the Grade 6 Graduation & Awards night – these are just a few of the events that have taken place during 2018. No doubt you will have also seen that work has started on the new toilet block. St Albans East Primary School is one busy place! The School Council would like to make two important announcements. The first is that Mr Paul Busuttil is the new Principal of St Albans East Primary School. This is a 5 year appointment. Congratulations to Paul. The School Council would also like to thank Mrs Anne-Maree Kliman for her hard work and dedication to the school during the 12 years that she was Principal and we wish her every success as the President of the Victorian Principals Association. The second announcement is that the 2018 Walter Gatt St Albans East Primary School Patron is Ms Ann Degabriele. Ann was heavily involved with the School Council for many years as a parent member and she also worked at the school as an education support officer and later as the business manager. Ann retired in April 2013. The Patron’s award was presented to Ann at the Grade 6 Graduation & Awards night by Mr Walter Gatt. For those new to the school community, Mr Walter Gatt, or Wally as he was known to all, had over 35

years involvement with our school as both a parent and a School Council member (most of those years as School Council president). On a final note, we still have one vacancy on School Council – which a community member or parent could fill. So if you are interested, please have a chat with our School Principal Paul and come along to our first meeting in February 2019. We hope you all enjoy the summer holiday break and for those that celebrate Christmas – we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

Tracy Nero School Council President
