MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD STAFF CHANGES
Mr Cartwright will be finishing as a staff
member but will be returning in
September as a PGCE student which is
Teacher Training.
He will be returning to Year 1.
We will be saying goodbye to
Miss Lee from Class 9 as she has
decided to train to be a nurse.
Miss Lee has been the One to One
support for a child in school. Good luck
in your new venture.
Mrs Cockerill will be finishing as a
Midday Supervisor. We would like to
thank her for her support during the
lunchtime breaks and wish her well for
the future.
Miss Epton has been a
Midday Supervisor but has secured a
role at Kingsmill School as
Learning Support.
We wish her much success in her new
role.
Mrs Barmby has been on a temporary contract this year
and will also be leaving us. Thank you for your help this
year across the school.
NEW STAFF
In September we are welcoming Miss Wright,
Mrs Smith and Mrs Pointez to the Midday Team.
The Admin Team will be gaining a new member of staff in
September. The interviews for this post will be taking
place next week.
Miss Cliffe has a few changes this
Summer!
She is getting married in the
Summer Holidays and will become
Mrs Day. She has accepted a role as a
T.A at Wetwang School to be near to
her new home.
We would like to wish Miss Cliffe
much happiness in her new roles!
The end of term has brought some staff changes
to our school.
Well suddenly the end of term has arrived and we
pause to take stock before starting all over again next
year.
This year has as usual been filled with many highlights
including the usual (many) sporting successes that we
have come to almost expect! Nonetheless, it is notable
that Martongate has achieved the Platinum Schools
Games Mark for 2018 to 2020, and this is recognition of
the provision that we make for the development of
healthy lifestyles and our commitment to activity.
This provision has been driven for many years by our Deputy Headteacher,
Di Levitt, who will be very much missed by us all following her retirement.
I would like to thank Di for her unstinting commitment to the school and the
level of care that she has shown to children as a class teacher and school
leader.
We all wish her every happiness in her new life.
I would like to take the opportunity to say goodbye to all of the Year 6 children
and hope that they all enjoy their academic journey through secondary school.
To all of the other pupils, I would like to wish you all a happy, safe summer
break and look forward to seeing you all in September. Teachers and support
staff, enjoy the break too, it is well deserved.
David Carruthers.

YEAR 4 TRIP ARMOURIES
SAMS SAFARI YEAR 5
Year 5 were visited by some of Sam Safari’s animals. Not only did they bring some
fantastic animals but they learnt that they were rescued. The animals that they
brought in were a giant chicken, snakes, a lizard, a frog,
a chinchilla, giant stick insects and a giant snail. In the time they
spent with us, we learned about the different lifecycles of each
one.
The children were also able to hold or touch the
animals. They loved how soft the chinchilla was as much as the
adults did. The whole experience was amazing and we were so
lucky that they were able to come in.
Thank you to all of
The Friends of Martongate for organising our
Summer Fair and to the staff who manned stalls.
The sunshine was kind and made an appearance whilst
the children sang songs!
We had lots of different activities for the children and
parents to join in with .
There was a raffle which had 2
Amazon Fire Tablets with Alexa
that were donated by Mr Watti
who is a parent of pupils at the
school.
Well done to everyone that was
lucky enough to win a prize.
Congratulations to the Year 3 and 4 cricket team who finished second in the East Riding Finals, losing by only 4 runs.
Thank you to Bethany Thornton of Class 9
and Oliver Williams from Class 7 who raised
money on the sponsored walk for the
Tour de Bridlington.
A great big thank you to you both.
Well done for taking part.
YEAR 5 NORTH LANDING AND LIGHTHOUSE TRIP
The Year 5 children had a fantastic day at
North Landing as part of their Geography topic on
coastal features. The pupils made videos explaining
how a beach is made, sketched caves, arches,
stacks and headlands.
They also created some beautiful beach art using
the resources they found combing the beach.
EYFS Sea Life Centre Trip
On Wednesday 12th June, EYFS visited the
Scarborough Sea life Centre as part of their
'Oceans and Sea Life' topic. The children saw
lots of different creatures and learnt lots of
things about aquatic life. They even got to
touch a real life sea anemone!
It was the first school trip for EYFS and the
children were a credit to the school asking lots
of good questions to the Sea Life Staff.
When they got back to school, the children were
so excited and created lots of fantastic pictures
and writing about the trip.
TOUR DE BRIDLINGTON
Thank you to everyone who
came along to Headlands
School field on 29th June.
Well done to Greg for winning
the giant Teddy, guessing his
Birthday as 14th November.
The Year 5 team competed in the Level 3 competition representing the East Riding at The Humber Games on Friday 12th July 2019. They came third.
Well done team
As part of our Vikings / Anglo Saxon history
trip, Year 4 visited Leeds Royal Armouries
Museum.
The pupils visited two workshops; ‘Saxon
Sagas’, where they did lots of drama and
‘Digging the Helmet’
where they were
archaeologists.
They toured the
museum and saw a
re-enactment of a
sword fight!
Year 6 learnt about healthy cooking before
preparing a feast to share with parents.
They created and made their own recipes
before producing a recipe book. Everyone
agreed the food was delicious! Everyone in
Year 6 would like to say a huge thank you to
the Friends of Martongate who provided the
enrichment money to be able to purchase the
ingredients and samples to evaluate.

25 YEARS 25 YEARS 25 YEARS 25 YEARS
Mrs Briggs has recently celebrated 25 Years
service at the school. She started as a
Mid Day Supervisor and then became a
Teaching Assistant and has carried out
Higher Lever Teaching
Assistant duties.
We are sure that some of
our parents will remember
Mrs Briggs from their time
at Martongate!
The team competed at Flamborough Golf
Club on Tuesday 30th April 2019 at the
Partnership Competition where they
came 1st and 2nd.
1st - 1048 = Martongate 1
2nd - 915 = Martongate 2
3rd - 748 = Burlington
4th - 483 = Flamborough 1

TEDDY BEAR PIICNIC
The EYFS and KS1 children
enjoyed a lovely picnic which
was prepared by
the school kitchen.
There was a moment where
the rain appeared but we still
had lots of fun with
our Teddy Bears.
Martongate’s gymnastics team were
recently awarded 2nd place at the
Schools Sport Partnership awards
evening in Beverley.
Although they only train for 90 minutes
a week, this year they have competed
and won medals in many
Yorkshire Championships; most recently
coming 3rd in England.
What a massive achievement.
They had to learn different and difficult
skills for new competitions showing
enthusiasm and passion throughout
their routines. The gymnasts were
inspirational and respectful throughout
all of their competitions.
What a brilliant afternoon at our
‘School Race For Life’ event.
Every child in the school ran or walked
around the field with staff and parents
joining in too! We collected £82.01 in
our bucket for this charity.
YEAR 5
RECORDERS
Class 11 and Class 12 have been
learning to play the recorder
this year.
The Friends of Martongate
purchased 60 recorders for the
Year group.
Thank you.
Miss Fellows, Miss Pummell and
Mrs Smith said it has
been an enjoyable yet
memorable experience!

The entrepreneurial Year 6 children made huge profits when
they sold their projects at the Summer Fair. After weeks of
planning, market research, designing and making, they were
able to sell their goods which proved to be very popular with the customers!
Martongate School have worked
very hard over the past two years to
ensure that our nurturing met the
standard required for
The National Nurturing Schools
Program Accreditation. We would
like to announce that we are now
one of a limited number of National
schools that have received this
recognition.
Well done to everybody involved.
Year 6 had an amazing day at
Let Loose in Beverley. The chil-
dren deserved a reward for all
their hard work this year .
The staff at Let Loose commented
on their fantastic behaviour!
What a great way to end the year!
