The end of April is start-ing to show signs thatSpring is upon us and

May promises to get us back

into our normal weather pat-tern. This month we have theOpening Day cruise to Pier 39and “Seis de Mayo” on May 6.In May we are bringing backradio-controlled boat races as amid-week activity. Come downand join the fun. See page 5.

At the next board meeting wewill be discussing ways to bringin legacies as well as new mem-bers. The element that we arelooking at is that as club mem-bers continue to mature, we aregetting less and less active par-ticipation beyond FridayNights. To survive, we need toattract younger more activemembers with activities thatcan embrace a larger group.

The cruise committees need toget a little more aggressive withtheir plans as was witnessed byLarry & Linda Wolfe’s boat, Dancing Wolf, which decided toembark on a Blue Water cruiseon its own. When boats are sobored they are initiating theirown cruises, we need to enlargethe offered programs.

--Steer the Course

W e started April witha cruise-out to Co-rinthian YC and

ended with a Opening Daycruise to Pier 39 led by AlanSpence. Tower Park YC, with8 boats, attended our FridayNight dinner and SundayBrunch. Thanks to Kurt Stahrfor managing the cruise-in.

We had to cancel Casino Nightand have reevaluated the socialcalendar based on the Board of Director’s input and haveeliminated most of the plannedSaturday events due to lack of interest. We have started aFriday Night 50/50 raffle to

raise funds for the club; so farwe have raised $300.00 andmade several guests veryhappy! There will be no pot-luck on May 6. Instead, we’llcelebrate “Seis” de Mayo withsouth of the border entertain-ment and food. See page 5.

Attendance at our once amonth Sunday brunch hasdropped off. Some have sug-gested we have a later hour, others want a buffet; some sayfewer would work better.May’s brunch has been re-scheduled to 10 am - noon. Themenu has been expanded.

We’ve had great support fromJoyce Craven taking reserva-tions. Thank you to Steve Var-tan for finding Chef TylerAnd-erson and coordinating all thedetails. By the way, a tip neverhurts! See you at the club.

A pril showed us that winterhasn’t left us completely. Our Cruise to Corinthian

YC was led by Charlie Agnew. Seepage 4 for more details.

Building and Grounds co-chairTom Nunan reports that the April13 Clean up Day was successful de-spite the rain. Members participat-ing were Norm Madsen, ClayParker, Bill Newton, Larry Wolfe,Dave Mendelsohn, Chris Fultz, BillMoore, Alan Spence and Jim Rob-bers. The “donut dollies” wereJackie Finnegan and Kathy Nord.

They power-washed the building, the deck and the dock. Needed re-

pairs were made to the dock, thedeck and benches. Gutters werecleaned, some electrical work doneand dock power stations werescrubbed. All windows werewashed inside and out. Weeds wereeradicated and the Bocce Courtcleaned up. Because of the rain nopainting was done but ceiling tileswere replaced and the funky greasetrap in the galley was cleaned. TheBar sink drain was cleared of debrisand now flows smoothly. All this

was done in about 3 1/2hours...these guys took care of busi-ness and it is much appreciated.

CPR Training Class is Saturday,May 21 at 9:30 am. Cost is $45. perperson. We have five openings atpress time and we must fill theseslots or the class will be cancelled. Please e-mail me [email protected] sign up, then mail me checkmade out to NVYC to reserve yourspot.

10 NVYC Boats Cruise to Corinthian YCCharlie Agnew reports...

Ten NVYC boats enjoyed the wonder-

ful hospitality of the Corinthian YC inTiburon from April 9 to 11. Bob Craven

organized the cruise but last minute problems forced “Omega” to stay home.

Boats at the dock were: Star Ship,

Strange Trip, Pelican, Gently Down the Stream, True Love, Betty D, Sol Scape,

Dancing Wolf, Lady Di and C’King Fun.

Corinthian served a superb dinner on

Saturday Night followed by SundayBrunch. C’King Fun changed its name to

Omega for the Sunday cocktail party that

turned into a birthday celebration for Bob Magoon.

Unlike the Loch Lomond cruise, we

had calm water and clear skies. That’show cruising is supposed to be!

Dominique Stahr shows off Cali, a Hungarian Vizsla, the newest member of the Napa Valley Yacht & Kennel Club.

Diane Brown, Pat Hildreth & Linda Wolfe

C’King Fun became Omega for Sunday cocktails.

 PICYA , RBOC & BCDC

Maxine Maas represented the NVYC at the

PICYA delegates meeting on April 4. As of April, 2011, stickers will be required for boats18 feet or shorter including canoes & kayaks. The Coast Guard is likely to require boater

education with states adding their own stan-dards.

RBOC (Recreational Boaters of California)

reported that ethanol fuel is corrosive and candamage gasoline engines. The California cop-

per bottom paint bill is still alive but is beingmonitored. Lobbying by the RBOC to con-tinue on: access to waterways, safety, bottom

paint, ethanol, and marine water quality.

BCDC (Bay Conservation and DevelopmentCommission) is preparing rules dealing with

climate change and requiring much high eleva-tions for building.
