September 2009 NewsletterThanks for your vote of confidence.

As Commodore for 2010, my themefor the year will be “Live YourDream” and make your dream real.We look forward to the fun and chal-lenges of this next year. You haveelected an outstanding team to lead

us.Vice Commodore‐Dirk

Kruio-denier. Rear Commodore-Bill New-ton. Secretary-Bob Weeks. Treasurer-Steve Vartan. Board of Directors‐‐‐‐

Don Buresh, Charlie Alegria, ChrisFultz, Bob Stephenson, Avi Strugo,Lynn Pritchet

Please don’t hesitate when asked to“volunteer” for a committee. It’s agreat way to make new friends. Youwill find that the more you give, themore you will get. We are as near as

your phone for all of your good sug-gestions and ideas to make our clubbetter.

Looking back on this past year,2009, we sometimes forget how muchhas been accomplished by our dedi-cated volunteers to upgrade our club.We have a beautiful and much needednew deck. The newly purchased largeand efficient commercial stove in the

kitchen has made Friday night dinnerseasier. Our parking lot has beengraveled and expanded thanks to you.

Many thanks go to Karen and Char-ley Agnew for organizing the BeniciaChallenge on Labor Day. BeniciaYacht Club won the Bocci Ball Tro-phy and also snuck by Napa Yacht

Club in the games. A great (and attimes wet) time was had by all. HeyBenicia----next year watch out!

Fleet Week is coming up nextmonth.---October 9th through the 18th.

Nine boats have signed up. OctoberFest will be celebrated at ParadiseCay with a German potluck and of course BEER.

Also, on October 24th is the PI-CYA Management Conference to beheld at the Aeolian Yacht Club inAlameda. All Officers and Directorsshould plan on attending to gain valu-able information.

Also in October is HALLOWEEN!Look for the enclosed flyer.

This is always FUN. Costumes, witches brew, dancing, eating---whatelse would you want? Co-hosts arethe Parkers, Wolfes and Kruideniers

Change of Watch is on November

21st this year. Again look for the flyerin this newsletter. I promise everyonea great time. On Nov. 20th , Fridaynight, there will be no dinner.

The New Year’s Eve South Beachcruise is coming up. Nine boats havesigned up, with reservations for 10.It’s always a fun and a great way towelcome in the New Year.

See you at the Club.Larry Wolfe, Vice Commodore

OMG it is fall; we are getting set up forthe year 2010. Next month is the Change

Of Watch. This means for Larry and I,we are in a higher pay grade and Clay has

to turn in his company car. What a greatcountry; it was just two years ago that

Seeta and I were washing glasses at thebar.

Our club’s success depends on a coupleof key factors, 1st is active participationand support from the members. Many of you have served in the past and havebeen enjoying retirement for awhile. Youhave been enjoying the efforts of otherswhile enjoying the clubs activities---‘maybe time to come out of retirementand get back in and make a contributionto our club. Our success depends on thecontributions of us (our Members). Thereis much talent in the wings; and your clubneeds you.

A second factor is making surethe club is our legacy. We need to encour-age new members including our ‘off spring’ and get them involved. This couldmean reduced fees for the younger newmembers, broader activities to supporttheir interests, more services to accommo-date their interests –I will fall short of ‘Heavy Metal Night’ and Seeta has ruledout ‘Pole Dancing’. The point is our de-clining member rate is higher than ourgrowth and we need to turn that around.W ithin the boundaries of our member-

ship there is a great deal of professionaltalent that could make experienced sug-gestions to contribute to our success.

I look back, as do many of you,and want to enjoy the labors of the pastand bask in the sunshine—However, ourclub is completely voluntary and we needthe efforts of all. On the other hand, wecould raise the dues and prices and em-ploy a full time bar, restaurant, and enter-tainment staff and sit back and relax—Isomehow believe that would be as aboutas successful as public health care. I knowClay, Larry, Bill and myself would like tohear your thoughts.

Last month I wrote about the per-fect enjoyment one would experiencesailing down the coast to Monterey. Theexperience of sailing into Half Moon Baywas more enjoyable than anyone could

predict; we decided to stay in para-dise, no one wanted to exit.

By consensus we spent the rest of theweek there; talk to one of the cruisers if you want the truth (“loose lipssink…….”)

Happy sailing,‘the rear’

to see the club beingused in a positive way!Cruise-in and cruise-outs are keeping mem-bers busy and involved,as well. Others, I amsure, will report on someof the activities there.

Kathleen & Clyde put on a great lunch-

French Dip Sandwiches

On Sunday, Sept. 6th, Napa challenged Benicia to"our" Olympic games. Well, even though we had playedand practiced these sports, we had our clockscleaned. Not only did they beat us at the games, but theyalso won the bocce ball trophy back.A great time was had by all, and of course, we were goodsports, except for the water dousing at the end. TheSmith's fixed a delicious Greek dip (commonly known asFrench) sandwich, and we sold enough of the t-shirts toput us in the black again. Needless to say, this makesour treasurer very happy.

A very grateful thanx to Charlie Agnew (even though hetried to change the rules) and Larry and Linda Wolfe. If itwasn't for their help, we wouldn't be able to have theseinsane moments. Thanx to all, Karen Agnew
