The Symptoms• Tall and slender built• Disproportionately long arms, legs, toes, and fingers• A breast bone that protrudes outward or dips inward• A high arched palate• Crowded teeth• Heart mummers• Extreme near sightedness• A curved spine• And flat feet
Prevalence• One in every 5,000 people are diagnosed with Marfan
Syndrome, worldwide• So 200,000 men, women, and children in every race or
ethnic group in the U.S. have been diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome.
• People have a 50% chance of passing it down to their children if they have marfan syndrome
Causes/Transmitted• Marfan Syndrome is caused by a defect in the gene that
determines the structure of the fibrilin.• Fibrilin is a protein that is important to a part of the
connective tissue. • Its transmitted by you heritage, your born with it.• One of your parents has the syndrome in their gene, so it
will get passed down to the baby.
Treatments• There is no cure to Marfan Syndrome• For Aortic dilation you can take medicine • You could have surgery for aortic dilation• Then if you a curved spine, they can give you a brace• Then for you eyes, you could get glasses. But if worse,
you could get surgery on your eyes• The doctors would give you pain medicine if you suffer
from dural ectasia• Then Marfan syndrome can cause a collapsed lung,
which will need surgery

have the Marfan syndrome• Even thought your born with the syndrome, you cant tell
