Pastoral Reflections…. from Fr. Charles

Pope Francis has some interesting suggestions on what to “give up” for Lent. Check these out:

The love of money: Pope Francis urges us to give up the “love of money” that leads to indifference towards people.

Apathy: There are many wonderful opportunities to get involved in Denver and in our parish. What about helping to start a “habitat for humanity” group in the parish? Or how about just getting involved in a parish group or activity rather than sitting at home and being bored. What are you passionate about? Do something.

Negativity: Think about things and people worthy of praise and then compliment them. Speak positively about people and activities. En-courage people.

Worry: In the words of Padre Pio: “Pray, hope, and don’t worry.” Try it. Give up worrying. Worrying about tomorrow can steal today’s joy.

Bitterness: This Lent try forgiving someone who never gave you the apology you deserved. Drop a grudge. Let go of past hurts and look for ways in which you can encourage those who discouraged you. If you want to give up chocolate or popcorn or beer or soda or coffee or sugar or salt or whatever else, go ahead. But Lent is meant to be so much more than giving up these material things. Make this Lent one that will really make a difference for you and the people around you.

Tickets will go on sale for a Parish Raffle beginning on April 1. Winning tickets will be drawn at the annual Parish Festi-val in September. The number of tickets will be limited to 1000. Each ticket will cost $20. Prizes will be: $2500, $1500, and $1000.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK / COMMUNION If you are homebound or you know of someone who is a parish-ioner and is homebound, and you would like Fr. Charles to visit, please contact the Parish Office. Fr. Charles and other lay par-ish ministers take communion regularly to those who cannot attend Mass in church. Fr. Charles also offers the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick to those who are homebound.

UNCION DE LOS ENFERMOS / COMUNION Si usted está en casa o sabe de alguien que es un feligrés y está en casa, y le gustaría que el Padre Carlos lo visitara, por favor co-muníquese con la oficina parroquial. FISH FRY SALE The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring fish fry Sale during Lent. The three fish fries will be on Friday, March 8; Friday, March 22; and Friday, April 12. Enter through the school gym. Food is served in the school cafeteria.

Bring a Friend The Evangelization Committee is sponsoring a “Bring a Friend” weekend on March 16-17. You are encouraged to invite someone to come to Mass with you. Refreshments will be available after all masses at the church entrance.
