I love spending time in our classrooms and talking to the students about their learning, there is just so much great stuff happening at the moment. Curriculum Day On Monday our teaching staff visited Gisborne Primary School. Gisborne PS are a Professional Learning Community (PLC) Link school. Over the course of the year they have many schools visit and do learning walksthrough a variety of classrooms. It is a great opportunity to observe fantastic teaching and to find out how other schools are striving for excellence. It also gave us a chance to reflect and celebrate our own progress and to think about how we are going to approach our role as a PLC Link school in 2020. East Loddon Food Share Program On Tuesday we were very fortunate to have a visit from the East Loddon Food Share team of volunteers who very generously donated hampers to each and every family of our school. We thank them very much for their gifts and time. Sporting Congratulations Congratulations to Nicholas M who has progressed to the State Athletics Carnival in Melbourne later in the month. Nicholas came first in the triple jump event in Bendigo on Monday. Congratulations also to Patrick K who competed on the day. A brilliant effort boys, we are very proud of both of you! Good Luck We would like to take this opportunity to wish Deb Neville all the best. Deb is taking leave for the remainder of the year and will be working at Harvey Norman Echuca. School Garage Sale The time has arrived! This Saturday we will be holding a school garage sale from 8:00am until 12:00 noon. I would like to thank the families who have donated goods and encourage families to have a think about any useful items that they no longer need that they can drop off at the school. There will be sausages and soft drinks for sale and the funds we raise will go towards building our new 5/6 Resilience Playground. I hope to see you on Saturday!

SCHOOL MEETINGS Parents and Friends - Friday 18th 9.30am

School Council - Monday 21st October 7pm

Hi Friends,

The new trees at the front of the school are growing and so are the brains of our students! I love spending time in our classrooms and talking to the students about their learning, there is just so much great stuff happening at the moment.

Curriculum Day On Monday our teaching staff visited Gisborne Primary School. Gisborne PS are a Professional Learning Community (PLC) Link school. Over the course of the year they have many schools visit and do “learning walks” through a variety of classrooms.

School Garage Sale

The time has arrived! This Saturday we will be holding a school garage sale

from 8:00am until 12:00 noon. I would like to thank the families who have

donated goods and encourage families to have a think about any useful items that they no longer need that they can

drop off at the school. There will be sausages and soft drinks for sale and

the funds we raise will go towards building our new 5/6 Resilience

Playground. I hope to see you on Saturday!

Science News This term the Prep – 2 classes have started exploring light and sound in a Primary Connections science unit called Look! Listen! As part of this unit we encourage students to look for different sounds and lights at home with family and friends, and discuss the sound they make and how they are used.

For example:

A smoke detector—this makes a loud ringing sound to warn us of smoke and a possible fire. It also has a green light to show that it is working. A red light flashes when it is ringing.

A bedside lamp—this has a light to help us see in the bedroom and read in bed at night.

A kettle—this makes a whistling sound that lets us know when the water is boiling and is ready to be turned off.

Grades 3/4s are working this term on exploring heat in a Primary Connections science unit called Heating up. As part of this unit students are encouraged to find with family and friends different objects at home that are heat sources and discuss if each one is producing heat or was heated by something else.

For example:

A hairdryer. The vent area can get hot. It produces its own heat.

A globe in a bedside lamp. It can get hot. It produces its own heat.

A saucepan on stove. It gets very hot. It is heated by something else (a gas burner).

Art News Term 4 We have three very special events happening in the Art room in term 4. Besides being very busy painting Daisy

Meadows, our Cow, we have three exhibitions.

Daisy Meadows: So far our Preps, 1/2A, 1/2B and 3/4B have all had a turn at decorating Daisy. She is looking pretty colourful, and

quite happy with herself!

Arnold Street Gallery Exhibition: From the 5th of November to the 16th of November 35 of our students have the chance to have their work exhibited

at Arnold Street Gallery in Bendigo. Susan McMinn is the founder and director of this gallery, and has very kindly

given LCS the chance to highlight the fantastic work our students have created. Artworks will be chosen by

children in all grades, Prep through to grade 6, with a special Launch on Wednesday 13th November, where we will

bus the children whose work is on show, to the Gallery for a public presentation and official opening of the

exhibition. All families and friend are invited to join us at the Gallery for this event. Those children who will be part

of this exhibition will be announced next week at assembly.

LCS Art Extravaganza: Friday 29th November Our Lockington Consolidated School Art Show Opening will be held at the end of November. On this day we will

officially present our cow Daisy Meadows to the school community and we will open and present every LCS

student’s artworks to the community. Our school will be a fantastic presentation of hundreds of artworks for

everyone to see. Our theme for decorating Daisy is “Lockington, our farming community”. We are endeavoring to

include on her as many aspects of our local community as we can fit on her, cows, sheep, horses ,alpacas, goats,

dogs, wheat, canola, windmills, farms, shops etc etc!! As part of our Art Extravaganza each grade will have a food

stall, supplying the kinds of food obtained from our community. Foods made from dairy, cereals, chooks, fruit and

vegetables.

Echuca Hospital: 2020 Our third Exhibition that our students will be involved in is a 12 month display in the children’s ward at the Echuca

Hospital. LCS has been selected to provide 23 pieces of artwork which is very, very exciting for our students and

our school. What a wonderful way to promote Locky School in the wider community. These pieces will be chosen

from the art works on display at our LCS Arts Extravaganza.

As you can see, a very busy term!!!

Kathy Connors and Lynsey Dobson.
