Welcome Welcome to the second issue of the Library Newsletter for 2015! We’re glad you decided to return. This issue is again packed with details of new and exciting items received into the collections of the Harvest Bible College Library Network over the last month.

FIFO - Finding Information For Ourselves The Fly In / Fly Out phenomenon has taken off in WA due to the mining boom. Many workers prefer to maintain their home and family lives away from the remote areas where they actually work. Therefore, they fly in for shifts and then fly out back home. In the library world, FIFO is also applicable – in the world of academia, we need to be able to Find Information For Ourselves. With many resources now available online, finding your own information can be easier than ever. Firstly, start with the library catalogue. This resource allows you to identify what resources are held in the library – both physical and online. Next, move on to ebooks – these can also be located via the library catalogue and are accessible from anywhere. You simply download the ebook onto your device and away you go! Once the loan period expires, it simply disappears from your machine, and if you need it again, you can just download it as many times as you need. Databases are the next stop. There are databases for just about everything. The library can provide you with access to full text journal articles and reference publications via the databases it subscribes to. Journal articles are of vital importance in academia. They are a way of staying up-to-date. New research can be published much more quickly in a journal article than a book. The library can provide you with access to over 500 journals online, anywhere, anytime. All you need to do is log into the library catalogue, click the External Databases Link and select your database – Proquest Religion, Religion & Philosophy Collection, Brill Religion Journals. Oxford Biblical Studies Online is a reference database offering hundreds of resources to give you the best overviews and background information around, and it also includes maps and timelines! The Internet itself is a great research tool – although it should be approached with caution – you need to evaluate the resources you choose to use and this can be tricky. Your local librarian can assist with this if you wish. Remember, your local librarian is available any time to assist you with your research needs if you need assistance. Contact us today!

New Look OPAC The catalogue of HBC Libraries has a slightly different look, or rather a new functionality! Now, when you use the catalogue on your smaller devices, such as a smart phone or tablet, the display adjusts automatically to fit on the screen in a more functional and useful way. Why not give it a go on your device today! No more hunting around to find what you want – it’s great!
