A Leer om Steven Lagos

Last August, we announced the celebration of our 30th Anniversary. It was around thissame time that I was in search of the perfect gift to commemorate it. In the heart ofthe Fashion District, perched 24 floors above a bustling 7th Avenue, I found exactlywhat I was looking for.

I entered a lobby lined in marble and gilded with Art Deco detail as far as the eyecould see. The elevators were equally beautiful and a testament to enduringcraftsmanship. I had seen more than twenty spaces, but as I traveled upward, Ithought to myself, “This must be it.” And behind two thick glass doors, I discovered thatI was right. It was this very moment that marked the beginning of LAGOS New York.

For my incredible staff, it is a showroom, offering the opportunity to give personalizedattention to each of our partner-clients and present the newest collections. But for me,it is more than this. LAGOS New York represents an arrival more than 30 years in themaking and the beginning of a new chapter.

To celebrate, I created three new collections inspired by this amazing city: Tribeca,Washington Square and Columbus Circle. Each one has been refined to reflect thestyle, energy and architecture of New York. In a city where perfection is pinnacle, thesepieces offer the same lasting beauty and attention to detail that has built the LAGOSname.

This also marks the introduction of Caviar Luxe™. A natural extension of our mostcelebrated collection, our signature Caviar™ beading has been reformed to be moredelicate, more refined. It’s a new take on a classic, the reinvention of a familiarfavorite, and proof that tradition never goes out of style.

Someone said to me recently that authenticity is the new trend. That people aredemanding something that is genuine, well-made and will retain its value over time.New? Certainly not to me. Not to my atelier in Philadelphia where more than 50artisans craft the jewelry that bears my name. Not to my loyal customers who havesupported me for more than 30 years. And not to the amazing city that is New York. Forus, authenticity is everything.

I hope you enjoy our Fall 2008 Collection and wish you the very best.

Steven Lagos

BraceletsThe bracelet marks the very beginnings of the LAGOS name. Designer StevenLagos’ first crafted pieces were formed from intricate antique spoons fit perfectly tocompliment a wrist. Today, his expertise and those of the artisans at his atelier inPhiladelphia have mastered the form.

One of the brand’s premier pieces, Caviar Wide Bracelet, is comprised of morethan 75 pieces. This bracelet has countless individual sterling silver beads lining theexterior, with a rich herringbone interior, finished with a dual release clasp. Its brilliantshape and enduring style can only be matched by its comfort.

For each collection, bracelets are designed with these three qualities in mind — fit, style and comfort. The Diamond andCaviar™Collection brings decadence into theday-to-day, with sterling silver Caviar™ beading and pavé diamonds set in 18-karatgold that can beworn alone or as a set. Offering the same versatility and history, theGlacier Now collection can be paired seasonally in a myriad of colored-gemstonefavorites including Smokey Quartz, White Topaz, and Citrine.

Bracelets are part of the LAGOS heritage. It’s recognized in the carved detail of ourBold Gold Cuff, captured by the rich texture of the Fluted Silver Link Bracelet, andcelebrated in the whimsy of everyone’s favorite— the Heart Toggle Bracelet. AtLAGOS we believe there is a piece of lasting beauty designed for every wrist, tailored to every taste.

ColourGlacier gemstones have always been a part of the LAGOS tradition. Thesebeautifully carved stones, set in rich sterling silver or 18-karat gold, are the focalpoint of the Glacier Now, Glacier Classic and Glacier Luxe collections. For Fall 2008the focus is on White Topaz, Smokey Quartz, and a warm Citrine. These gemstonescapture a warm radiance with cool undertones, indicative of the season itself.

Topaz is the first choice of designer Steven Lagos. A brand staple, the word Topazis derived from ancient Greek, much like the LAGOS name. Its name is derived fromTopazios, or St. John’s Island, located in the Red Sea. The once-submerged islandis comparable to the unpolished stone itself. The gemstone forms as crystals risingfrom granite. Untinted and free from impurities White Topaz is completelytranslucent, giving it its diamond-like quality.

Smokey Quartz is equally captivating. Cherished by the Australian Aborigines for itsmystical properties, it’s believed to energize the body and give great clarity. Thepositive nature of this mineral can only be matched by its beauty. The deep brownreflects facets of light giving it its amber and golden hues.

Between these two extremes of translucent clarity and rich auburn depth lies Citrine.Derived from the Quartz family, it’s believed to be the stone of success, reflectingboth creativity and prosperity. Its golden hue offers a warmth and brightnesscomparable to the sun itself; perhaps an indication as to why it’s said to bring joyand optimism to the lives of those who wear it.

Each stone is expertly carved to bring out its inherent beauty. Every facet hasbeen perfected to accentuate its brilliance, allowing light to reflect through it tobring out optimal depth and sparkle. These semi-precious gems are then polishedto a high shine to show their true luster, making them the focal point of everyLAGOS Glacier piece.

ColourGLACIER LUXEFeaturing gemstones set in rich 18-karat gold and diamond pavé, Glacier Luxe is a twist on the Classic collection. Inspiredby the importance of his own family heirlooms, designer Steven Lagos set out to create pieces that would bring decadenceinto the every day, while holding true to a traditional motif.

GLACIER NOWWith soft sterling silver edging, the Glacier Now collection epitomizes understated elegance. Inspired by the classic Greciancolumns common to Olde City Philadelphia, smooth lines of silver are capped with tufts of 18-karat gold and Caviar™beading, putting each polished gem on its very own pedestal.

GLACIER CLASSICAs a young boy, designer Steven Lagos would often marvel at his Grandmother's rings. Decades later, he recalled thistraditional motif, modernizing it to create the Glacier Classic collection. Designed for the quintessential lady with refinedtaste, each piece features accents of LAGOS signature Caviar™.

Two ToneCOLUMBUS CIRCLEInspired by the center point where the architectural and the natural collide, designer Steven Lagos created the ColumbusCircle collection. With a natural shape and structural precision each design features gleaming orbs of rich, sterling silverCaviar™, and some accented with 18-karat gold.

CAVIAR BASICThe foundation of the LAGOS name, the Caviar Basic collection features Caviar™ beading intricately woven into a torsadede points. The French term literally means a "twisting of points" taking small spheres of sterling silver and giving them infinitesparkle and shine.

LINKExpanding upon the Caviar™ tradition, this collection features high polished links fashioned together with rich beadeddetail. Inspired by this new shape, designer Steven Lagos uses his signatures of sterling silver, 18-karat gold, beveling andcustom clasps as beautiful as the pieces themselves.

CLASSIC KNOTThe knot represents a bond or promise that cannot be broken. In this collection, the symbol is captured with beveled ribbonsof 18-karat gold. Set in brilliant sterling silver, each piece has been expertly crafted to have enduring beauty and lastingshine.

BOLD GOLDFeaturing 18-karat fluted gold, this collection calls upon one of the oldest jewellery making traditions to give it contemporaryfeel. The fluted gold, often seen in early Egyptian jewellery, showcases LAGOS craftsmanship at its very finest with richpolished detail present in every piece.

Set in Old City Philadelphia, the LAGOS Studio is a state-of-the-art atelier where old-worldcraftsmanship and modern innovation combine to create impeccable handcrafted jewellery. Itis here that artisans craft architecturally inspired designs with intricate detail from the initial ideato the final polished piece. This unparalleled attention ensures that each and every creation isof the absolute highest quality, making it worthy of the LAGOS name.

The artistry behind each design is best captured through the process itself. It begins, ofcourse, with an idea. Designer Steven Lagos draws upon inspirationboth past and present to develop concepts that are uniquelyLAGOS. Once satisfied with his vision, Steven then shares it with ateam of skilled model makers who bring the sketch to life. Usingtraditional hand carving techniques and modern computer aideddesign, three dimensional wax models are created.

Once a wax model is complete, it is transformed into a metalmodel through the centuries-old lost-wax casting process, in whichthe wax model is encased in plaster and heated until the wax ismelted away. Molten metal is poured into the remaining cavity in theplaster and cooled. The plaster is then washed away to reveal anexact metal copy of the wax. This metal model is carefully detailedby hand. Skilled craftspeople make certain that each style is craftedto exacting standards to ensure that each piece is both beautifuland comfortable.

These perfected metal models become the master pattern. Arubber mold is made from that pattern in order to create multipleexact copies in wax. These duplicates are then taken through thelost-wax casting process to produce many individual metal castings.A piece of LAGOS jewellery can be comprised of numerous differentcastings, as well as other elements such as diamonds, gemstones, and pearls, and even subtle working parts like springs and chains.Every piece of LAGOS jewellery originates from these same perfectedmaster models.

These essential pieces are then given to a skilled jeweller whose job it is to take theseindividual component parts and, using the wealth of their knowledge and techniques, assemble them to construct the wonderful object that is a piece of LAGOS jewellery.

Once assembled, sterling silver is oxidized to bring out the sculptural qualities of the jewelleryand create the rich luster that is LAGOS’ signature finish. Once a piece has been oxidized, stones are set and the finished piece is given a final polish. A technical inspection ensures thatevery piece meets LAGOS’ high standards of excellence. It can take from twenty five to literallyhundreds of individual steps to complete a single LAGOS creation.

At LAGOS, this labouring process is borne from a passion for fine jewellery. Craftsmanship ofthis caliber requires years of experience and intense dedication. Each and every piece wecreate captures this commitment, and our name guarantees it for a lifetime.

CARING FOR CAVIAR PRODUCTS

DO• Always keep your jewellery in theLAGOS pouch when not being worn.

• Frequently wipe your jewellery with theprovided polishing cloth.

DO NOT• Do not wear silver jewellery in theocean-salt water as it speeds theoxidation process and can causejewellery to blacken more quickly. (Thiswill not affect the jewellery.) In the eventthat blackening occurs, please returnthe item to your local area retailer forrefinishing or email Customer Service [email protected]

• Do not use silver cleaner on LAGOSjewellery as it will remove all of theoxidation and leave the piece lookingflat.

• Do not worry if you cannot restore yourpiece to it’s original lustre. Any piecethat cannot be cleaned at home toyour satisfaction can be returned toLAGOS for refurbishing and in mostcases can be made to look like newagain.

Gemstone CareGemstones can get dirty. Often, soap and hand lotion can cover the gemstone with a film,

dulling the luster. Gemstones can be cleaned using a slightly soapy solution (1 part Palmolivedishwashing liquid + 10 parts water). Dip your jewellery into this solution and scrub lightly using a softtoothbrush. Rinse under cool water and repeat as needed. Ultrasonic cleaning is also acceptable.LAGOS jewellery requires minimum care and will provide a lifetime of enjoyment.

All LAGOS Caviar products are hand-crafted from 925 sterling silver and eighteenkarat gold. As with all sterling silver, LAGOSsilver will tarnish. With this in mind, LAGOS hastaken significant steps to keep your jewellerylooking new with minimum care. You will notice that all of the recessed areas

on your piece are already dark. This is part ofan antiquing process in which these recessedareas are oxidized and is a deliberate featureof the design. These darkened areasaccentuate the design, giving the pieceadded dimension. To care for your product simply use the

provided polishing cloth. The white inner clothcontains our unique formula of preciousmetal cleaning agents and applies an anti-tarnish barrier to your jewellery. The outercloth gently polishes and buffs your piece, resulting in an unsurpassed luster. For optimum results, apply pressure as you

gently rub the gold and silver with the whiteinner cloth. Notice that the tarnish is easilyremoved onto the cloth. This discoloration isnormal and acceptable. Discoloration doesnot change the effectiveness of the cloth.Next, use the outer cloth to buff the piece toa higher luster. Please note: Do not use theinner white cloth to clean pearls, opal, coral,or other soft gemstones. The outer cloth isacceptable for cleaning all surfaces.
