About the Editor

Lorissa LaForge

My name is Lorissa LaForge. I was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 15, 1996. Both of my parents grew up in the city of Chicago, where most of my family lives today. Despite my parent’s urban upbringing, I was raised in a small town outside of Columbus. When I was younger my Mom and Dad began to realize my creative abilities, and helped me develop these skills by giving me the opportunity to go to art camps and classes outside of school. After discovering graphic design when I was a sophomore in high school, I began to pursue it as a future career choice. For many years, traveling the world has always been another interest of mine. This interest in traveling comes from the idea of leaving the “small” city of Columbus and settling somewhere big and foreign. As a child I was able to travel with my family around the United States, to places like Alaska and Arizona. Since then I have become interested in traveling outside the United States. I have no idea where I will be in ten years. Like everyone else, I have hopes and dreams for my future. I want to go to college and graduate, pursuing a career in graphic design, advertising, or business. I then, hope to move to a bigger city like Boston, Chicago, or New York. Given the opportunity, I hope of spending time abroad in Europe or Asia; exploring the different cultures the world has to offer. I don’t know what life will give me in the future. But what I have to look forward too when I am older is the ability to make these hopes and dreams of mine come true.

The holidays are approaching rapidly this year, as they do every year. Stores are already stacking the shelves with plastic snowmen, sparkly ornaments, and goldmenorahs to prepare for the pre-holiday bustle. This is the time that people take theirholiday bonuses and buy a round-way-ticket to their favorite tropical destination.Whether their tropical dreams include Fuji, Mexico, or Australia, many picturethemselves on a white sandy beach with a piña colada, celebrating Christmas. Whyescape the cold, instead of embracing it? Who needs a margarita or a new bikini, whenyou can escape somewhere that embraces the true climate of the holidays? Take yourholiday bonuses and buy your ticket to spend the holidays with your loved one in “The City that Never Sleeps”. New York City is not only the biggest city in the United States; it’s also the most diverse

with 8 million residents living within the huge city limits. The city is split up into five boroughs; Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.

You can spend your holiday vacation exploring the huge city within its five boroughs. If you haven’t been to New York City, then you are missing out on experiences and adventures that last a lifetime. Start your vacation by going for a stroll in Central Park, or you can indulge in activities from your childhood, by going ice skating in the middle of the city. Being one of the “Fashion Capitals” of the world, it caters to hours of great shopping. You can spend your holiday walking the streets of SoHo or Manhattan, with a coffee in hand, finding unique treasures. If you want to spend some time indoors, then what’s better than becoming enriched in the arts while you do it? New York City is home to some of the best museums in the world, ranging from the Guggenheim to the Museum of Natural History. Whether you want to become enriched in the fine arts or dinosaurs, there are plenty of museums that cater to your educational yearnings. And for your night-time fun, there are many places to go and activities to do. The city’s nightlife supplies hours of fun for any night-owl. It is called “The City that Never Sleeps” for a reason. Being in New York City gives you the opportunity to step back in time, byexploring historic buildings and statues, such as The Empire State Building, Ellis Island, The Brooklyn Bridge, The Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, and many more. You can spend your vacation time admiring the hard labor put into buildings and magnificent pieces of architecture by Americans that came before us, each with great detail and a fascinating background on how they came to be. You will be left in awe and think highly of the hard work by those who helped start the blueprint for the city we know today. If you haven’t booked your holiday plane ticket to Puerto Rico or Florida yet, Ihighly consider suggesting New York City as an alternative. Within the five very diverse neighborhoods of the city there are are many things that will entertain you, great

architecture to admire, and food to try and experience. The activities in the city are endless and entertaining. From the shopping to the museums, there is plenty to do. Instead of spending your vacation brunt and sweaty under a palm tree, you can spend it walking by the huge and magnificent buildings and architecture of the city. Being it the holiday’s soon with things to do and people to see, definitely add New York City to your holiday to-do list.

The Republicof Ireland

A holiday in Ireland allows one to experience a culture deeply steeped in history. This history is reflected in the warm hospitality, underrated delicious traditional dishes, brilliant music, and beautiful landscape. Whether enjoying a morning breakfast at a B&B, downing a pint or two in a pub, experiencing the local artists, or hiking along a seaside cliff, it is hard not to feel a part of the dramatic culture and rich history that is Ireland.

Understanding the history of Ireland allows for a deeperappreciation of the ancient monuments found there today, as well as reasons for the heartache of contemporary disputes. The story of Ireland is an ancient tale, older than the pyramids of Egypt, and

full of more turmoil, upheaval, and romance than any daytime drama.
