Retirement Fund for Religious Women and Men

(9 December 2018)

The Retirement Fund for Religious. A donor writes, “Your flyer touched my heart—seeing the retired religious, such memories surfaced.” Do you remem-ber the sisters, brothers, or religious order priests who made a positive difference in your life? Today many are elderly and need assistance. Their religious communities struggle to meet retirement needs while continuing to serve the People of God. Please give generously to next week’s second collection.

First Sunday of Advent 2 December 2018 “Be on guard!” Jesus warns in today’s Gospel. Let us heed his warning and follow the advice of Saint Paul, conducting ourselves in a way pleasing to God, overflowing with love for one another.

CATEQUÉSIS COMUNITARIA Y FAMILIAR — COMMUNITY AND FAMILY CATECHESIS

Be on guard! First Sunday of Advent Week of December 2, 2018 Listen to the Word (1 Thessalonians 3:12—4:2) What words or phrases strike you? What in this reading touches your heart? What lingers in your memory? Look into your life Question for children: What helps you to grow in your faith? Who helps you? Question for Youth: Advent is the Church season when we prepare for Christ’s second coming. What is one thing you can do to prepare yourself spiritually for his coming? Question for Adults: Paul exhorts us to make greater progress in our spiritual lives. What one step could you take to make great-er progress in your own life? Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect: Make and bless an Advent wreath for your home. Recall that the circle reminds us of God’s eternal faithfulness. The four can-dles represent the four Sundays in Advent. The candles symbol-ize Jesus who is the Light of the world. During Advent, focus your daily prayers around the Advent wreath. Have a discussion about how your family prepares for special days and events. Remind family members that this special time of preparation is called Advent. Talk about what each family member can do to prepare his or her heart for Jesus’ coming. Have a family meeting at which all members brainstorm ideas as to how they can prepare for the coming of Christ during Ad-vent. Write the ideas on slips of paper and put the slips in a hat. At the end of the week, have each person share what they chose and how they carried it out.
