The Spanish reconquest of Moorish Spain is one of the most important elements in the history of the country. The Iberian Peninsula had been under foreign control for over 1400 years and each conquering civilization left a deep impact upon the political atmosphere and culture of the population. The reconquest represents the final consolidation of power over Spain by the Catholic Kings, Ferdinand and Isabel and also marked the beginning of a new era for the Spanish people. Following la reconquista, Spain would grow to become one of the largest and most powerful nations of the time. Spain’s empire grew to such an extent, that the sun was always shining in one corner of their lands.
TEACHERS PAGEIdeally this web quest should be used for higher level courses, mainly 11th to 12th grade students. The exercises command a higher order thinking of the student as well as sound grammatical and linguistic skills. At the end of the exercise, students will be able to identify the major elements of the reconquest of Spain from the Moors as well as describe the political and cultural relevance of the Moorish occupation of Spain.
