Greetings families and children of Karori Normal School. We are celebrating Niue Language week. The theme for this year is: Tokiofa, ofania, mokoina e vagahau Niue, which means Treasure, love and cherish the Niue language. Have a wonderful week and god bless.
Welcome back to the last term of the 2019 school year. It’s great to see the children once again keen to be back and quickly focussed on their learning.
We are in full swing preparing for this Saturday’s gala. It has been fantastic that so many people have been in school, getting involved and supporting this event. A huge thank you to everyone who has and will be helping out. “Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.” (Unknown)
If you’d like to assist at Saturday’s gala but you’re not sure how, please follow this link to volunteer;

2020 Term Dates
Apologies that we haven’t set the 2020 term dates yet. The reason for this is that the renegotiation of the Primary Teachers’ Collective Agreement, provided schools with 8 days for teacher only days over the period of the agreement 01/07/19 to 30/06/22. The use of these days will not extend the school year and therefore will impact on the 2020 school terms. We have been waiting on guidance from the MoE and NZSTA regarding what the days are to be used for and when they can be used. This guidance was received yesterday and it includes the need to, if possible, align holidays with other local schools. I will inform you of our agreed dates as soon as possible.

Sun Safety – Term 4
This term children will be expected to wear a sunhat when outside. Please note the following points regarding sun safety in Term 4, we appreciate your support in keeping the children ‘sun safe’.
Children are able to bring their own hats to school as long as it is a sun-safe hat i.e. a bucket hat or wide brimmed hat. We would also like children to wear their hats to and from school.
All children are expected to wear a hat when they are outside at school in Terms 1 and 4. If children don’t have their own sun-safe hat at school, they will be provided with a school sun-hat to wear when they are outside. School hats will be washed after they have been used before they are given to another child to wear.
Children will be provided with a school sun-hat if they are representing KNS at inter-school sports events in Terms 1 and 4.
Year 0 to Year 7 Children Not Returning to KNS in 2020
We have begun planning our staffing and class organisation for 2020. It would be very helpful if you could inform us, if your child will not be returning to KNS next year. If your child is in Year 0 to Year 7 and he/she will not be attending our school next year, please email Vicki Lewington –[email protected] informing her of your child’s last day at KNS and which school he/she will be attending in 2020. Thank you to those parents who have already done this. This information is necessary to help us confirm the numbers of classes we need at each level in 2020.
