FAREWELL FR. PIOTR RAPCIA BEST WISHES & PRAYERS

Page 2 PENTECOST SUNDAY JUNE 4, 2017

Dear Parishioners, I wanted to take a moment to let you know that I am leaving my position at St. John Brebeuf. I will be starting a new position at St. John Paul II Newman center next month. I have enjoyed my term here and I appreciate having had the opportunity to work with you. Thank you for the support, guidance, and encouragement you have provided me during my time at St. John Brebeuf. During these last five years you all have provided me support and through your encouragement and guidance I have been able to excel at the ministry projects offered to me. With many of you, I have shared a unique camaraderie which I hope will continue in the years to come. I will miss my friends and the parish, but I am looking forward to this new challenge and to start a new phase of my vocation. Thanks again for everything. I wish you all the best. Yours truly, Fr. Piotr Rapcia

Dear Parishioners,

The Feast of Pentecost invites us to reflect on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit that push us into the future. For our faith is risky business, not a safe harbor. All of us in a very real way participate in the birthing of the future. Our loving and merciful God makes all things new. Yes, it's a challenge to accept uncertainty, we often wait impatiently, but God does reveal Himself. He fills in what is lacking in our life and calls us to recognize that we are all a work in progress.

Setbacks often are set-ups for God to show up! Remember the reason the early Church expanded beyond the city of Jerusalem was because they experienced increasing persecution. The final straw was the stoning of Stephen which forced many to flee for their safety. It forced Phillip to leave Jerusalem and go to Samaria where the gospel was proclaimed and it led to great joy in that city. Little did they know that God was up to something.

This is true in our lives as well. What we might consider a great burden, trial, or hardship might be something we look back upon later only to realize that God was up to something. If we approach the hardships by drawing close to God, then perhaps, we too might later not only be filled with great joy but we might one day look back with great thanksgiving for how God showed up!

Points to ponder • Identify one setback in your life in which you are now grateful for having experienced. • Where are you complacent or stuck in a rut in your own spiritual walk? In what way will you be open to

future growth and expansion? • Comfort, ease, prosperity, safety, and freedom often cause a tremendous inertia in the spiritual life.

Simultaneously, hard times, setbacks, sickness, and sorrow can provide opportunities to turn towards God and find a greater sense of peace and confidence of His presence.

Pope Francis Offers: There is no greater freedom than that of allowing oneself to be guided by the Holy Spirit, renouncing the attempt

to plan and control everything to the last detail, and instead letting him enlighten, guide, and direct us,

leading us wherever he wills. The Holy Spirit knows what is needed

in every time and place. This is what it means to be mysteriously fruitful.

Drodzy Parafianie, Chciałem poświęcić chwilę, aby poinformować Was, że odchodzę z św. Jana Brebeuf.

To prawda o naszym życiu. • Komfort, łatwość, dobrobyt, bezpieczeństwo i wolność często powodują ogromną inercję w życiu duchowym. Jednocześnie ciężkie chwile, porażki, choroby i smutek mogą dać szanse zwrócić się ku Bogu i znaleźć większe poczucie pokoju i zaufania do Jego obecności.

On dobrze wie, czego potrzeba w każdej epoce i w każdym momencie. Oznacza to być

płodnymi w sposób tajemniczy!

The Ministry of Sacristan for Funeral Masses

Please consider becoming a Sacristan for funeral masses. This ministry only requires 90 minutes of your time and you can pick the day that’s most convenient for you. Funeral masses have a starting time of 10 am and no later than 12 noon, and are scheduled Monday through Saturday. Your responsibilities include setting up the altar, sanctuary and sacristy before and after the funeral mass. We will show you how simple it is to prepare the tray for the credence and gift tables, light the candles, turn on the lights, arrange the books on the altar & pulpit, and set out the incense and holy water. We invite you to consider this ministry by providing assistance to both the priest and altar servers in preparing the church for mass. ment gives many graces and is so peaceful.

PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Christ's followers were skeptical when He preached the reality of His Body and Blood as food and drink. St. John said, "many of His disciples withdrew and no longer went about with Him." Seeing this, Jesus asked the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave me?" Simon Peter did not understand any more than those who left Christ, but his

loyalty was more firm. "Lord," he said, "to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life”. We have the "Word of Eternal Life" right here with us day and night in our Adoration Chapel. Do you have something you want to ask Him? There are several hours needing adorers. Please pick one for your personal hour with Him.

Welcome to Mrs. DuMez’s 3rd Grade Classroom Mrs. DuMez is in her second year as a 3rd grade teacher at SJB School. Her hobby is photography, and her classroom and the nearby hallway is infused with creative projects done by her students.

“What we try to do is a lot of group work. I do a little mini lesson ahead of time and show them what I expect. They usually set up in their own groups -- sometimes I do pick groups, because sometimes they work with their friends and don’t get to work as much as they should,” she says. Like many of the SJB classrooms, Mrs. DuMez’s class has flexible seating. “I got rid of all my desks this year and that’s been great.” Each student has a box of supplies and a crate for their folders and papers. The classroom runs smoothly. “Each student has a job. There are cleaners, book straighteners, workbook passers, so it’s pretty well oiled and they know what to expect.”

A large part of 3rd grade is preparing for the added expectations in the upper grades. “We have Chromebook time, we are incorporating technology quite a bit. They do Google Doc writing. Sometimes I do tests on Google Classroom so I can grade them easily.” Now, at the end of the year, “We are doing quite a bit right now with them bringing their homework, being prepared for class. I made a big chart, showing them what they need to do, what they have expectations for. I have actually been giving them little things so they are prepared and it’s not a big shock” when they enter 4th grade in the fall. She also works with students to learn to manage their time. “When they are working in groups, at the beginning of the year I didn’t give a time constraint. Now, a lot of them are under a time constraint so they effectively produce what I’m asking of them within a certain amount of time. Otherwise they’d be doing it all day -- and that’s not going to fly in 4th grade,” she says.
