Dear Parishioners, During the month of November we remember all the faithful departed. We also take time to reflect on the meaning of death. What happens to us when we die? People in every age wonder whether this present age life is all there is. Some bury food and favorite items along with their loved ones -- they believe that it will be needed in the afterlife. Some hold that people are reincarnated in another life on earth. Christians place their hope in resurrected life, with Christ hav-ing already preceded us, then raising all who belong to him, as St. Paul assures the Corinthians. St. Paul speculates on what kind of body we will have at the Resurrection. For St. Paul and other Jews of his day, there could be no existence without a body. St. Paul speaks of us having a transformed, glorious, spiritual and imperishable body, bearing the image of the one who has preceded us in resurrected life. Our faith and our visits to the cemetery underscore the im-portance of body-ness. Incarnational, or bodily, spirituality means that God turns the world upside down through us – through the human person. We are a people who believe that God works through us to turn the world “upside down.” We are a people, like Mary the Mother of God with her Magnificat, who “pull down the mighty from their thrones and exalt the humble and meek.” We are not trying to get into a better place but rather believe things are getting better right now through the grace of God. We believe things will continue to be better in the future and that you and I, who were part of the transformation, will enjoy the fruits of our labors -- not just a small part of the blessings of living but the best of bodily existence! However, the fullness of this future joy and life in Christ is not yet realized or fully understood by us today. The beautiful Catholic Cemeteries are not reliquaries of the past but rather point us to the good and the holy made real today through the lives of our loved ones and the promise of continued blessings from God now through the human condition and forever! Of course, this only makes sense through the eyes of faith. During the month of November, we pray for one another and the faithful departed. We pray that we may never lose the faith and hope that comes from Christ! Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and all the souls of the faith-ful departed rest in peace! Father Mike Meany

Paweł w Liście do Koryntian. Amen. Father Mike Meany

SJB Children’s Liturgy of the Word The Children's Liturgy of the Word is geared especially for chil-dren ages 6-10. It is a special opportunity for children to under-stand and appreciate Scripture at Sunday Mass at 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Polish Mass. Basically, after the opening prayer (Collect), the children are invited to come forward with two adult Catechists and go to the Music Room in church to participate in their own Liturgy of the Word. Children’s Liturgy of the Word offers an experience for children to hear Scripture in words they understand and to share their own understanding of God’s word. The children return to the main parish assembly for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We warmly invite all children in the parish to participate in the Children’s Liturgy of he Word. All parents, please encourage your children to join when the clergy invites them to come forward to hear the good news of the Lord. We welcome all of our children ages 6-10 to participate!

SEASON OF STEWARDSHIP Over the past few weeks, our Season of Stewardship has focused on how we use our time, talents, and treasures in the service of God and of our parish. Thank you for your thoughtful reflection. Now, it is your turn. Below is a card you and your family can use to plan how you want to give of your gifts and talents. Please clip it out, complete it, and put it in a place you will see it so you can be reminded of what you intend to do. If you have questions, our parish staff is here to assist you. Thank you for all that you do for St. John Brebeuf!

44 Days to Go That is the number of days until Christmas. This means that men and women of the St. Vin-cent de Paul Society will be at the doors of the Church the weekends of November 16-17 and November 23-24 with the St. John Brebeuf Chr istmas Gift-Sharing Program gift sugges-

tion forms. Many families from the past years know that “Santa’s Workshop” is at St. John Brebeuf and not at the North Pole.

ALL GIFTS ARE TO BE RETURNED TO THE CHURCH THE WEEKENDS OF November 30-December 1 and December 7-8. If you have any questions regarding the Chr istmas Gift-Sharing Pro-gram, please ask a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society or call the Parish Office. The society wishes to say Thank You for the past 47 years that our parish has participated in this great project. For many individuals your Christmas present is the only one they receive – so, please NEW items only.

Our veterans have served our country, and now our parishioners are serving them! On Sunday, November 3, a group from St. John Brebeuf delivered 335 care packages filled with toiletries to the Hines VA Hospital. Staff at the hospital expressed grati-tude for the outpouring of generosity -- they were expect-ing around 150, and ended up having to open up extra space to store all the boxes! Planning for the 2019 Parish Project began in spring 2019. The first Parish Project, "Wrapped in God's Love" blanket project in 2018, was successful with over 160 blankets hand-made by parishioners being delivered to the home-bound, ill, or those in need of comfort. "We wanted to do something that would be meaningful, both for those in need as well as for our parishioners. Someone mentioned doing a project for veterans, and our group immediately agreed. We felt that was it," said Parish Council president Ginny Wolff. Next was figuring out what the project could be. Parish Council member George Miszczyszyn reached out to a contact at the Hines VA Hospital. Since the hospital is al-ways in need of toiletries that can be given to veterans, the Parish Council decided to compile a list of the exact items needed and ask parishioners to create care packages. Outreach for the event started the weekend of September 28-29. Members of the Parish Council spoke at the Masses

to introduce the project, prepared a couple of example bags, and had flyers in large bags ready to go. "We ran out of flyers and bags almost immediately -- the response was overwhelming!" said Ginny Wolff. "We prepared more bags for the next weekend, published the flyer in the bulle-tin, and prayed that the project would take off." On the weekend of October 26-26, the first weekend of collecting and blessing the completed bags at Masses, it was clear that the project was going to be a success. Nearly 150 were collected the first weekend, and more than that were collected the second weekend. With so many bags returned, our parish maintenance staff stepped in to help plan how to transport hundreds of bags to the VA hospital. It was decided that the Uncle Pete's van could be loaded with filled boxes and driven by Fr. Meany. Maintenance staff member Danny O'Donnell offered to drive another van, with John Mazur acting as copilot. The Parish Council members offered their own vehicles and reached out to other parish leaders to help drive as well as help unload boxes at the VA hospital. "We wish to extend a very heartfelt thank you to all who helped with the Parish Project," said Fr. Meany.” From families and individuals who took time to go shopping and fill a bag, to the parish staff who helped get things orga-nized, to our volunteers who helped deliver the items, eve-ry part of our parish took part. The kids from Religious Education and from the school even sent beautiful notes for the veterans. We are so grateful for everyone's partici-pation and generosity."
