Dear Parishioners, Holy Week invites us to pray over the events of our lives. Sometimes we have a hard time understanding how God can write with crooked lines on our lives, but the passion of Christ is the power of love at work, straightening our crooked lines. Good and bad are always going to be mixed up in our lives. Sometimes we make mistakes; some-times we get things right – we zig and zag. But the one thing we know is that in all our ups and downs, Jesus is with us. May the grace of God's mercy come upon you and your family during Holy Week! Father Mike Meany THE FEAST OF DIVINE MERCY April 3, 2016 The Sacrament of Reconciliation The Tribunal of Mercy Jesus said: Come with faith to the feet of My representative (1448) I, Myself am waiting there for you. I am only hidden by the priest. I Myself act in your soul (1602)…Make your confession before Me. The person of the priest is, for Me, only a screen. Never analyze what sort of a priest it is that I am making use of; open your soul in confession as you would to Me, and I will fill it with My light (1725). The Eucharist The Presence of Mercy In His great love for us, the Lord Jesus gave us a great miracle of mercy: the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. Christ is fully present as He is in Heaven. St. Faustina comments; “Oh what awesome mysteries take place during the Mass!…....One day we will know what God is doing for us in each Mass, and what sort of gift He is preparing in it for us. Only His divine love could permit that such a gift be provided for us…...this fountain of life gushing forth with such

sweetness and power.”(914)

Again, this year, we will celebrate The Feast of Mercy with 2:00 PM English/Polish Confessions, 3:00 PM bilingual Mass,

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

together in front of the Blessed Sacrament gives many graces and is so peaceful.

PERPETUAL

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Christ's followers were skeptical when He preached the reality of His Body and Blood as food and drink. St. John said, "many of His disci-ples withdrew and no longer went about with Him."

Seeing this, Jesus asked the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave me?" Simon Peter did not understand any more than those who left Christ, but his loyalty was more firm. "Lord," he said, "to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." We have the "Word of Eternal Life" right here with us day and night in our Adoration Chapel. Do you have something you want to ask Him? There are several hours needing adorers. Please pick one for your personal hour with Him.

HOLY THURSDAY PILGRIMAGE REVIVAL OF A TIMELESS TRADITION

Immediately following the 7:00 PM Mass of the Lord’s Supper, St. John Brebeuf Parish offers the opportunity to revive the age-old tradition of the “Visitation of Churches”. We are invited to pray with our Lord late into the night, through the sacrament of the Mass, followed by an evening visiting five “Altars of Repose” throughout Chicago. Chartered school buses will pick us up outside of St. John Brebeuf and will whisk us from church to church for our evening of prayer. The Churches we tentatively plan to visit are: St. Hyacinth Basilica, Holy Trinity, St. Stanislaus Kostka, St. John Cantius, and St. Mary of the Angels. The evening will end with night prayer at about midnight, when the buses return us to St. John Brebeuf. Reservations are not only a must, but they are limited too. Please fill out the form below and return it to the parish office, along with your donation of $10.00, to help defer

the expense of the buses, by Monday, March 21st. For additional information, please contact Barbara Bronder at 847-966-8145.

The Anointing of the Sick Liturgy What do you know about this Sacrament and why has the church given us a sacrament to care for the sick. As Roman Catholics we have always believed in and practiced the anointing/healing of the sick. Jesus healed people according to the scriptures as found in (James 5:14-15): “Is there anyone sick among you? He should ask for the presbyters of the church. They in turn are to pray over him, anointing with oil in the Name [of the Lord]. This prayer uttered in faith will re-claim the one who is ill, and the Lord will restore him to health.” Our parish will be celebrating this special encounter with God on Saturday, April 9 at 10:00 a.m. Please attend if you feel that at this time in your life you need God’s tender care.

We cordially invite you, family, and care givers to attend Mass on

March 20: Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion

Today is Palm Sunday and the begin-ning of the holiest of Christian weeks.

Let us pray for the grace to take up our own cross and to follow Jesus through death to new life. Do you, or a family you know need assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor. All information will be strictly confidential.

Deacon Andy Beierwaltes Telephone: (847) 966-6961

"... the temptation grows to have

recourse to euthanasia, that is, to take control of death and bring it before its time, ending one’s own life or the life

of others. In reality, what might seem logical and hu-mane, when looked at more closely is seen to be sense-less and inhumane. Here we are faced with one of the more alarming symptoms of the 'culture of death'." Please pray to end the culture of death. St. John Paul II. Let us continue to pray daily: “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.” VIRTUS TRAINING Per Archdiocese policy, all employees and volunteers working with children, in any Catholic Parish and/or School must attend a Virtus Training Session, before beginning their service to their faith community. We will be offering this training, here at St. John Brebeuf on:

Monday, March 28, 7:00pm-10:00pm, PMC-A

You need to only attend one session; however, you must be present for the entire three hours to get credit and to receive your certificate. You must also be registered on-line in advance of the date of the class. To register, access www.archchicago.org and click-ing on the lower left side of the screen, where it reads: Protecting Children. The screen will then walk you through the registration process. For further information call Larry Skaja at 847-966-8145. Please arrive 30 min-utes before the class to sign in. No one will be allowed in after the session starts

JOB OPPORTUNITIES The Parish office is in need of a part-time secre-tary with excellent computer skills and good pen-manship. The individual should be Apple proficient and a multi-tasker. We are also in need of a part-time janitor to work weekends and some nights. Hours are flexible. Please email Fr. Michael Meany at [email protected]. References needed upon request.

Drodzy Parafianie, Wielki Tydzień zachęca do modlitwy nad wydarzeniami z naszego życia. Niech łaska Bożego miłosierdzia zstąpi na Was i Wasze rodziny podczas Wielkiego Tygodnia! Ks. Mike Meany
