Dear Parishioners, Welcome Father Robert Carlton! Your ordination to the priesthood on Saturday, May 18, 2019 was a day of great joy not only for you and your family, but also for me, Father Przemek, as well as the entire Archdiocese of Chicago. Father Przemek and I were pleased to be with you. We prayed for you and recalled our ordination days; the hopes, fears and joy that raced through our minds as we celebrated that sacred ritual, a sacrament that calls us to be a Servant Leader. The people of St. John Brebeuf Parish are so pleased that your are joining us as a Newly Ordained Associate Pastor. We say “Thanks be to God” for your willingness to serve the People of God in this local church. No doubt, you say the same, “Thanks be to God!” I would imagine that your heart is also filled with joy and gratitude for all who have been a part of your formation leading to this day. As you well know, it is your parents, family, and life-long friends who were the first formators of your vocation. In particular, I noticed the support that you received from the good priests and parishioners at Immaculate Conception Parish, where you served as a deacon. No doubt there are some wonderful lay people and priests that you have met over the years who encouraged your vocation, that you remember today in special ways for their prayerful support. May God continue to strengthen you with the gifts of the Holy Spirit that your received through the “laying on of hands” at the ordination ceremony. May those gifts of the Spirit allow you to faithfully serve the people of God with a happy and generous heart. Wishing you all the best as you begin your duties, Father Mike Meany ************************* Drodzy parafianie, Witaj ks. Robercie Carlton! Twoje święcenia kapłańskie w sobotę 18 maja 2019 roku były dniem wielkiej radości nie tylko dla Ciebie i Twojej rodziny, ale także dla mnie, Ojca Przemka, jak również całej Archidiecezji Chicago. Ojciec Przemek i ja byliśmy zadowoleni, że możemy być z tobą. Modliliśmy się za Ciebie i przypomnieliśmy sobie nasze dni święceń;

Niech te dary Ducha pozwolą Ci wiernie służyć ludowi Bożemu szczęśliwym i hojnym sercem. Życzę wszystkiego najlepszego, kiedy zaczynasz swoje obowiązki, Ks. Mike Meany

Greetings! I am certainly very happy to have been assigned as the new Associate astor at St. John Brebeuf and I am looking forward to working with and getting to know all of you over my time here. A little bit about me – I grew up in Chicago and Evanston, and went to Loyola Academy for high school. After that, I went to Georgetown University in Washington DC, where I studied English and classical studies. I was also in the Navy ROTC program, ran on the track team, did leukemia research at the Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown, and worked on Capitol Hill for Senator Durbin. After college, I was the electrical officer on the USS Halyburton and then taught theology and English at Fordham Preparatory School, which is a Jesuit high school in New York City. I was also the assistant coach on the cross country and track teams there. While I unfortunately do not speak any Polish, during my time working in New York I did spend a summer working at the Ignatianum which is the Jesuit University in Krakow. I started at Mundelein Seminary in the fall of 2014. There are quite a few things that we did up there but, for me, the best and most helpful were the ones where we worked outside of the seminary. I spent a summer working as a chaplain at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, which was not only a lot of fun because I got to meet and work with people from all over the world and I got to live in LA for the summer, but also very challenging because I also got to work closely with families whose kids were very sick. We also spent several months in Israel visiting the holy sites there. For me, that experience was less about visiting places than it was about trying to connect with people who live in a part of the world that is very challenging to live in and trying to learn from them how their faith helps them with their daily lives. Back in Chicago, I also spent a summer working at a parish and legal aid clinic in North Lawndale and also started a track team at a parish on the south side. This past year I have been working at Immaculate Conception, just down the road from St. John Brebeuf. I am very grateful to the people there, especially at the school, for how welcoming and generous they were to me and I very much hope to continue a connection with them. In addition to being at IC last year, I also was the campus minister at Resurrection High School for the last several months of the school year. I really enjoyed working with and getting to know the students and staff at the school and hope to maintain a connection there as well. In short, I look forward to getting to know all of you better. Please pray for me and please be assured of my regular prayers for you. Blessings, Fr. Robert Carlton

Witam serdecznie!

Trochę o mnie - dorastałem w Chicago i Evanston. Ukończyłem liceum Loyola Academy, potem Uniwersytet Georgetown w Waszyngtonie, gdzie studiowałem język angielski i studia klasyczne.

Ks. Robert Carlton

Consider Sharing Your Faith with Children

The SJB Religious Education Program is seeking enthusiastic people who want to set younger hearts on fire with the love of God by sharing their faith and traditions. July 7: Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the Gospel today we see how Jesus sent his Apostles out two by two. In this spirit, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul members “go out two by two” to visit those who are poor and needy in their homes. It is there, in the family setting, that Vincentians listen, offer humble advice, and render assistance. Know that the members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul bring your gift directly to the poor and suffering in our parish. Have you considered joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul? Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that to-gether we can help the suffering and poor. All information will be strictly confidential.
