    YEAR 9 TEXTILES TECHNOLOGY

Congratulations to our Year 9 Textiles Technology students who produced outstanding results in response to a design brief requiring them to create a contemporary cushion.

The creative ideas were implemented and the designer cushions constructed. The high quality of the finished projects showcased close attention to detail which was evident in each student’s work and designer’s supporting portfolio. Well done everyone.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Congratulations to all students who have applied themselves so well to their studies and curriculum enrichment activities during this very busy school term. I again remind all students and parents of the importance of ensuring academic studies take priority, and that a sensible school life/home life balance is

maintained so that the required focus on school work is achieved. Music to our Ears Our annual School Music Festival was held last week and although it was a cold and rainy night, many people ventured out to enjoy a fantastic showcase of the vast talents of our students, supported by our dedicated teachers and conductors. Before presenting certificates of appreciation to the Year 12 music students, I commented that I believe music at our school is as strong at this moment as it has been at any stage during my time here. I must also compliment our choir, conducted by Rachel Kelly, for the amazing progress they have made since forming only twelve months ago. Congratulations to everyone involved with such a wonderful evening of entertainment.

Teachers Supporting Teachers The Department of Education and Communities this year introduced a new process by which teachers are receiving increased support in their professional learning. All of our teachers, including those who are casual or temporary, are required to collaboratively develop professional goals and to identify the strategies and support they require to achieve those goals.

One of the phases in this important professional development plan involves teachers reflecting on their practice and gathering evidence of progress towards their professional goals. Direct observation of classroom practice is an important component of the process, and these observations are now being conducted by colleagues. During Term 3, your child may tell you that they have occasionally had two teachers in a lesson. This is part of the new process, where teachers will work collegially to observe each other in the classroom. Together, participating teachers will undertake a pre-observation discussion and a post-observation reflection. This strategy aims to direct focus onto the continuous improvement of teaching and learning in order to achieve the best possible learning outcomes for our students.

Thank you for your efforts during this busy term. I wish you all a very safe and relaxing term break.
