This is an extremely busy and important term for all students and staff. This week saw the beginning of the Higher School Certificate examinations and we wish Ty, Sarah, Craig, Thomas, Bree, Taylor, Kieran, Laura and Michelle the very best over the next four weeks of their exams. As I stated at their final assembly, Year 12 have worked particularly well over the past couple of years in preparation for the HSC and they are very well respected by the school and the local community. There are a number of significant events this term and the first is next Wednesday‟s Bronze, Silver and Gold Assembly where we celebrate studentsachievements during Term 3. The ceremony will begin at 2:00pm and all members of the school and community are invited to attend. Other major events are the Year 5/6 excursion to Sovereign Hill in Victoria departing Sunday 17 November, the Year 6 Luncheon on Monday 9 December and the school‟s Presentation Night on Thursday 12 December. Free Dental Assessment and Screening Consent During Term 4 all students from Warren Central School have the opportunity to participate in the Australian Mobile Dental Care (AMDC) free dental assessment and screening. As part of this issue of Jumbunna a consent form has been attached for all parents and care givers to complete. This consent form must be returned to the front office by next Wednesday 23 October 2013 so that we can notify the AMDC to finalise appointments. Parents may have received Medicare Teen Vouchers in the mail. These vouchers can be used for dental treatment associated with the program. This is a wonderful program and I encourage all families to take the opportunity to have your children at least assessed and screened for no cost. If you have any queries about the program please do not hesitate contacting me and I will happily answer your questions. Attendance The school is concentrating on improving student attendance this term. There are substantial benefits for sending your child to school every day. International research clearly shows that students who regularly attend school get the maximum benefit from school and optimise their life choices. They develop skills and attitudes that help them to be successful in later life. These include self- discipline, punctuality, being organised and being able to stick to routines. By attending school every day children can make friends and learn to maintain friendships and relationships over a length of time. Finally, the more you attend, the more you learn. I am asking every family to support the school in raising the awareness that good attendance has significant advantages for every student, parent and member of the local Warren community. NAPLAN Parents and caregivers will be receiving their children‟s NAPLAN results in the mail this week. If you have a child in Years 3, 5, 7, or 9 who sat for the assessments and do not receive your results please contact me immediately so I can follow it up as a matter of urgency. 2013-2014 Captains Nathan Clarke Vice-captain & Megan Callander Captain K-6 News Welcome back to another very busy and productive term. We hope everybody had a wonderful break and are now ready to continue being positive and happy learners. How wonderful and proud the K 6 students look each day in their full school uniform. Congratulations to Year 12 and their wonderful efforts in raising $4492.50 for the Royal Far West „Come-N-See‟ Speech Therapy Program. We were overwhelmed with the support from students, staff, families and the wider community in purchasing tickets, buying 100‟s Club numbers and in guessing the number of lollies in the lolly jar. Thank you also to Auscott Warren for their very generous donation of $2000 for our Charity. Year 12 students were involved in catering for the Dinner on 29 August, and spent many hours in the kitchen under Miss Rice‟s and Mrs Mayger‟s supervision. They produced a fabulous meal and spent many hours cleaning up afterwards. Thank you to all the families who contributed groceries for our grocery basket raffles. So large was the response that we were able to create 20 baskets of varying themes. A special thank you to Neil, Janelle, Aleena and Ty Arnold for their very generous donation of the IGA and Wish Gift Vouchers, as well as to IGA Warren for their donation of a $20 Meat Tray Voucher.

Higher School Certificate Examinations 2013 We send our best wishes to Year 12 as they prepare for and sit the Higher School Certificate Examinations. The examinations commence on Monday 14 October and finish on Wednesday 6 November. This group of students have been very dynamic in their presence at school, contributing to many facets of school life including academic excellence, outstanding sporting achievements, technological knowledge and skills, cultural expertise (piano and dance) and a broad range of vocational experiences. All students have firm goals in mind, ranging from attending university, apprenticeships, local employment and overseas travel.

Here‟s a little insight into what they will be doing:

Bree is travelling on a work exchange to Canada and the USA.

Thomas is moving to Parramatta to pursue a career in Rugby League and undertake an apprenticeship in a trade.

Michelle is planning to attend university and study an Arts Degree.

Taylor is planning to study at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst where she will undertake a 3 year nursing degree followed by a postgraduate in midwifery.

Damien plans to further his education in Dubbo and seek part-time employment.

Sarah hopes to either travel or work in Child Care.

Kieran is planning a career in Technology and Design.

Laura is considering travelling before starting a career in nursing.

Craig will be moving to Parramatta to pursue a career in Rugby League and undertake an apprenticeship as a plumber.

NAIDOC CELEBRATION NAIDOC celebrations were held at Warren Central at the end of last term in a gathering of community to acknowledge the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The day began on a formal note with a whole school assembly, in which Mableah Fuller, Reighan Peckham, Isabella Gordon, Kyle and Amber McClenahan carried out official duties including explaining the history behind this year‟s theme; the 50

th anniversary of the presentation of

the Yirrkala Bark Petitions to the Federal Parliament. The Australian and Aboriginal flags were raised by Mrs Joyce Fox, the oldest locally born Aboriginal elder in Warren alongside members of her family; of which four generations were present. After a community morning tea it was time for the fun to begin with a myriad of activities organised by our Aboriginal Education Officer, Phyllis Oates and her team. Art and craft activities, traditional games, music and staff/student netball and touch football games were enjoyed by everyone including visitors from Warren Preschool and Little Possums. Donny Dixon and his son David Rose kept up the supply of Johnny cakes and fried scones while Gary Daley, Eric Crisp and Barney Dixon lent a hand turning the sausages on the barbeque. Representatives of local organisations including Mission Australia, Barnardos and NSW Health also contributed to the day‟s festivities which were capped off by the cutting of a beautiful cake by Joyce Fox, Thelma Darcy, Leonie Darcy and Phyllis Oates.

Mr Paul Loxley our School Educational Director with Phyllis,

Nikki, Allison, June and Brett
