WARREN CENTRAL SCHOOL RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE LEARNERS Welcome back to Mrs Whiteley. We hope that you enjoyed your travels and time away but we are all pleased to see your smiling face back in the classroom. We would like to say a huge “Thank You” to Miss Crawford for stepping in so ably for the last three weeks and doing such a wonderful job teaching Kindergarten and keeping their routine going. Gobondery/NARRAF Tennis Gala Day On Friday 16 October selected students travelled to Tottenham to compete in the Gobondery/NARRAF Tennis Gala Day. Chelsey Hewett, Tsharlia Shepherd, Bobbie Toomey, Haylie Hammond, Mitchell Eather, Logan Hewett, Jaziah Amatto-Shepherd and Zeek Peschka all participated well and displayed their tennis skills and sportsmanship. Tsharlia Shepherd and Mitchell Eather were presented with Effort certificates at the end of the day. Our team came second on the day after Tullamore. Thank you Mrs Whittaker and Mrs Perry for encouraging and training the team. School Swimming Scheme During Weeks 7 and 8 students from Years 2-4 will participate in the School Swimming Scheme. School Swimming Scheme is an intensive learn to swim program, which develops water confidence and provides students with basic skills in water safety and survival. The Scheme is conducted over ten days. Each daily lesson is 45 minutes. Please assist us by returning the notes and money as soon as possible. Horse Sports I would like to send a big thank you to Warren Central School for giving Gracie and Lewis the opportunity to represent the school last Friday at the horse sports in Baradine. Gracie and Lewis are very proud of their achievements listed below: Lewis placed 4 th in his hack class but unfortunately had a buster in his last ring event when his horse Polly tripped, both where ok (Lewis badly winded) but this accident did not faze them and they were back after lunch to do the sporting events. Lewis' age (7 & under 9 yrs) group consisted of 8 boys who clapped and cheered each other on throughout the day. Issue 2, Term 4, 2015 JUMBUNNA The Gobondery/NARRAF Tennis Team

JUMBUNNA Since the introduction of the PBL band system, day one this term, we have seen an increase in positive behaviours displayed throughout our school by our students. The students are rewarded under the three PBL focus areas; Respectful, Responsible Learners by means of a teal band. Students acrew these bands for displaying positive behaviours during school. HOW DOES THE BAND SYSTEM WORK? When the students gain three teal bands they trade these for a pink band. The students then gain teal bands to continue trading up gain three pink bands. Once they have three pink bands the students trade up to Purple bands and receive a merit card for their continued efforts under the PBL structure. The students continue going through the teal and pink until they gain three purple bands. Then the three purple bands are traded for a yellow band which entitles the students to a yellow letter being sent home to parents and caregivers which acknowledges the students positive efforts and a morning tea with the deputy principal, this is happening in the last week of term. The final band to gain after three yellow bands is a rainbow which entitles the students to the end of term celebrations day activities which is organised and selected by the SRC.

Gracie also showed great school spirit throughout the day. Gracie's age group consisted of 15 girls (9 & under 11yr). Even though Gracie did not get a placing in any of the events, she wore a smile from ear to ear. This was Gracie's 3rd ride on her new horse Jesse which we had picked up on Tuesday afternoon. I am extremely proud of both children and their horses’ efforts on the day. Thankyou once again for letting us represent Warren Central School and the community of warren. Felicity Leonard

Warren Central School is holding three Kindergarten Orientation sessions this term. The first session was on last Friday 23 October. All children had a wonderful time and were involved in classroom activities which began at 9:30am in the Kindergarten room through to 12:30pm. The second session is on this Friday 30 October. Again, any child who will be commencing Kindergarten at Warren Central School in 2016 is welcome. This session will run 9:30am until 12:30pm. The third session your child is invited to attend is on Friday 6 November. This will be a full day session for those children enrolling at Warren Central School in 2016. The day will start at 9:00am and finish at 2:50pm. Children are asked to bring a piece of fruit for fruito and a packed recess for each of the Orientation Days. For the full day, they will need to bring fruito, recess and lunch. We believe this experience is most beneficial to new students and encourage you to participate in the days. All students attending these orientation days MUST have their completed enrolment package handed into the front office.

3/4 Neon During journal writing students in 3/4 wrote a persuasive text on the topic ‘The sun is better than the rain’. I disagree that the sun is better than the rain. I like the rain more than the sun because the rain is fun to dance in and get wet in but in the sun you will get hot and maybe faint. I like the rain better than the sun because I can listen to the rain while playing my iPod, doing crosswords or reading a book. I can still go to the pool in the rain, unless there is thunder or lightning. The rain makes the pool warmer than usual. That is why I like the rain better than the sun. By Ruby Smith

The sun is better than the rain because you can see the sunrise and the sunset. When it rains you can’t do any sports like soccer and running. When it rains you can’t go to the pool and have a great time. When the sun is out you can go camping and go for a walk, then you can watch the beautiful sunset. When it is raining what’s the point of watching the sunrise? I like the sun more than the rain because when you’re camping you can go for a swim in the river. How would you keep warm when it is raining? The rain would just put out the fire. That is why the sun is better than the rain. By Zoey Daley I think the rain is better than the sun because I can do my rain dance and do any dance in the rain. I like to crouch up in bed with my iPod or Mum’s iPhone when it rains. I can still go to the pool unless there is lightning. It is fun to go to the pool when it rains. It makes the pool warmer than usual. The rain makes rainbows. They are the reasons I like the rain better than the sun. By Lilly Higgins The term has been action packed so far, especially in the Science area. Mr Chandra has organised the Australian Science Museum Festival and Dubbo Enviro Links Excursions. These were very enjoyable and informative. He is also working with a group of students on a Home Energy Program, which will be reported on in the next Jumbunna. Students in Mathematics have been studying Non-Linear Relationships and Similarity (Year 10), Equations and Trigonometry (Year 9), Time, Congruence and Algebra (Stage 4), and Quadratic Polynomals and Algebra (Year 11). All students have started new sports this term. Please remind them they need a hat and drink bottle. Laine Stephens and Kevin Greenaway have been selected in the Western Plains Schools 7-a-side Rugby team to play in Coffs Harbour on 6 November. Good Luck Boys. All students need enclosed leather shoes for all Science practicals. Mrs D. Hamilton – Head Teacher/Maths, Science & PDHPE Thirty seven students from Warren Central School participated in the Australian Science Museum Festival at the Western Plains Cultural Centre in Dubbo on 9 October. Students from Years 7-11 participated in a range of workshops with hands-on activities with presenters from Australia's leading science and technology organisations. This was proudly supported by the Warren Shire Council as part of their EIPP Grant (Early Intervention Prevention Placement Grant) as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics are key focus areas in which we need to generate more interest. As such, this was one unique opportunity presented by various stakeholders to bring all that to one place. The supporting partners include 3M Science Applied to Life, National Science Week, Inspiring Australia, ANSTO, Western Plains Cultural Centre, Dubbo Sustainable City Expo, Dubbo City Council, Macquarie University and Australian Museum. There was positive feedback from all the students who enjoyed a diverse, unique, and stimulating environment. Some even said that “it was better than what we expected”.

The Dubbo Envirolinks Youth Workshop was an initiative of the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage to find ways for young people around the Dubbo region and surrounding towns to connect with other schools and organisations that help to conserve the environment. Four students from Warren Central School, Harry Glover, Hamish Callander, Savannah Nielsen and Katie Brown volunteered to participate in this rewarding program which was held at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo on 1 September 2015. They cooperated with fellow members from other schools and local organisations to converse, formed networks and pledged to find pathways to work on projects that matter to them in their local communities. This could be as simple as planting a tree, lobbying for recycling rubbish or forming a school environment club. This has been part of the culture of inculcating values in the younger members of the community to be more active in caring for and improving their local environment. These students found the day a challenging one in terms of raising their leadership to a higher level as well as a rewading one with many ideas to help them become good environment citizens.
