FROM THE DESK OF FR. RANDY

A week from this Saturday, August 15, is a holy day. It is the day we celebrate the Assumption of Mary each year. This is one of the holy days that when it falls on a Saturday or a Monday, is not obligatory. So, the holy day this year is not one on which we are obliged to attend mass. I will still offer mass for those who choose to still observe the Assumption. We will have mass for the Assumption on Friday, August 14, of this coming week at 6:00 pm. I haven’t heard exactly what the plans are, but I know the Picnic Committee met again this past Monday. I can tell you that they are planning to have drive through service for food and to have a virtual raffle. I’m confident they have things thought out well and I’ll pass along details as I know them. There isn’t much else going on these days in the parish. Things continue to go at a slower pace in these times of COVID19. Debates continue about the best approach to dealing with the virus, but I don’t care to get into that. We will continue to follow whatever guidelines we receive from Bishop Medley. Many continue to stay away from mass but slowly some are returning. Perhaps some are contemplating when to return to mass. Each person does have to determine that for themself but I would say that if we’re going to other places like stores and the ballpark, why not come to mass? I would also add that the longer a person stays away from mass then the more of a habit it becomes, and the harder it gets to come back. Food for thought… Fr. Randy
