Summary of Role

Reporting to: Headteacher of PRU

Purpose of the Post:

IN ADDITION TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF A CLASS TEACHER, AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND KEY TASKS INCLUDE:

1. Strategic direction and development of inclusion and SEN provision across the PRU

2. Be the designated teacher for ALN and LAC 3. attend SEN meetings and LAC/social services meetings

where relevant 4. contribute to a positive ethos in which all pupils have access

to a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum; 5. support all staff in understanding the needs of ALN pupils and

ensure that objectives to develop ALN are reflected in the PRU Improvement plan;

6. Lead in the development, implementation and monitoring and review of pupil IDPs across the PRU

7. regularly monitor progress of objectives and targets for pupils with ALN from teachers' plans, evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning by work analysis and use these analyses to guide future improvements;

14. To ensure that designated curricular areas are appropriately resourced.

15. To keep up to date with developments in designated curricular areas through personal study and attendance at relevant training.

17. To contribute to the social and emotional development of pupils in need of such support.

18. To manage a pastoral caseload including:

Liaison with parents and carers.

Contacting staff in mainstream school.

19. Under the direction of the Head of Centre, liaison where appropriate with outside agencies.

20. To maintain the IEP and confidential file on every pupil in their caseload.

IN ADDITION TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF A CLASS TEACHER, AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND KEY TASKS INCLUDE:

1. To arrange and attend meetings with outside agencies who support our ALN and LAC pupils. These can include Local Authority officer, social Services, Health Services and any other service linked to pupil well being.

2. Support the identification of, and disseminate the most effective teaching approaches for pupils with ALN;

3. Collect and interpret specialist assessment data to inform practice;

4. Work with pupils, class teachers and key stage managers to ensure realistic expectations of pupils;

5. Monitor the use of resources, teaching activities and target setting and develop a recording system for progress.

6. Plan and implement appropriate interventions to support identified needs as appropriate

7. Keep up to date with any training or new developments linked to your role and work closely with the HT/SMT to implement any new initiatives or changes as appropriate to the needs of the PRU and its pupils.

LEADING AND MANAGING STAFF - TO:

1. Achieve constructive working relationships and establish opportunities for the SENCO, support assistants and other teachers to review the needs, progress and targets of pupils with ALN;

2. Provide regular information to the head teacher and governing body on the evaluation of ALN provision;

3. Working with the Headteacher, manage and deploy staff to meet the needs of individuals;

4. Support staff by organising appropriate training, modelling and coaching and/or ensuring they have access to appropriate equipment and resources to carry out their role efficiently, safely and effectively;

5. Undertake performance management of staff; 6. Advise on and contribute to the professional

development of staff.

EFFECTIVE DEPLOYMENT OF STAFF AND RESOURCES - TO:

1. Advise the head teacher, Senior Leadership Team/Management Committee of priorities for expenditure and deployment of staff, and utilise allocated resources with maximum efficiency;

2. Maintain and develop resources, co-ordinate their deployment and monitor their effectiveness in meeting the objectives of PRU and ALN policies.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Disclosure Checks

The DBS was established under Part V of the Police Act 1997 and was launched in March 2002.

The DBS enables organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors to make safer recruitment decisions by identifying candidates who may be unsuitable for certain work, especially that involve children or vulnerable adults. The DBS can issue 5 levels of Disclosure Certificates, depending on the position applied for, namely Standard, Enhanced, Enhanced with ISA check (children), Enhanced with ISA check (adults) and Enhanced with ISA check (children and adults) Prospective applicants should be aware that before any offer of appointment is confirmed the successful candidate will be required to complete an online application form for the appropriate level of disclosure. Proof of the successful candidate’s identity will also be required in the form of the following: Passport, Driving Licence, Birth Certificate and Utility Bills. The Authority actively promotes equality of opportunity for all existing employees and prospective applicants. Candidates are selected on the basis of skill, qualifications and experience, and their match against the Person Specification.
