A New Year’s Prayer
God of our yesterdays, our today, and our tomorrows. We praise You for Your unequalled greatness.
Thank You for the year behind us and for the year ahead. Help us in Your new year, Father, to fret less and laugh more.
To teach our children to laugh by laughing with them. To teach others to love by loving them.
Knowing, when Love came to the stable in Bethlehem, He came for us. So that Love could be with us, and we could know You.
That we could share Love with others. Help us, Father, to hear Your love song in every sunrise,
in the chirping of sparrows in our backyards, in the stories of our old folks, and the fantasies of our children.
Help us to stop and listen to Your love songs, so that we may know You better and better. We rejoice in the world You loved into being.
Thank You for another new year and for new chances every day. We pray for peace, for light, and for hope, that we might spread them to others.
Forgive us for falling short this past year. We leave the irreparable past in your hands, and step out into the unknown new year
knowing You will go with us. We accept Your gift of a new year and we rejoice in what's ahead, depending on You to help us do exactly what You
want. We rejoice!
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
It is my heartfelt wish that you cele-brated a joyous and Blessed Christmas. It is hard to believe that we have started a New Year and that 2018 is already here! Many of us start every new year with renewed hopes, and look forward to future aspirations. We also
have the opportunity to reflect on the many blessings that we have been given in the past year(s), and need to remember to give thanks to God for all that we have. As we look back on the year that has passed, let us re-member both our successes and frus-trations, our joys and our tears, and look
forward to 2018 with renewed hope and expectation. A very Happy and Healthy New Year to you all !
Sincerely,
L. Sposato Principal

December Christmas Events/Activities The month of December proved to be a wonderful, bustling time, filled with many warm memo-ries to start the Advent /
Christmas season. Praying as a community at our Advent Mass on December 8th certainly prepared our hearts for the birth of Jesus. The Christmas spirit filled each one of us as we participated in many charitable activities, and Christmas festive activities planned by CSPC, Student
Council and our own school events. We started with our school Civvies Days, including Red and Green Day and Christmas sweater Day.
Funds raised were used to help families in need within our own school community. CSPC com-pleted our "Out of the Cold"
drive, with many families donat-ing gently used clothing, coats, boots/shoes. Finally, a new Toy Drive (all toys donated to Toy Mountain), and Hat/Mitten Drive, were also completed, all items donated to our local char-ities. Many families will make good use of all these items thanks to the generosity of our
parent community. Many special thanks to our parent community from our Student Council. They are pleased to inform you that their
fundraising initiatives for the
month of December were suc-cessful. The Candy-Cane-Grams and Spirit Week activities brought many smiles to all. All proceeds raised will help subsidize the Que-bec trip for our Grade 7 and 8 students, and other student coun-
cil upcoming activities. Finally, our St. Bruno/St. Raymond staff also followed the example of our students and generously do-nated a gift card for some of our families in need within our own school community. Without a doubt, students, staff and parent community certainly demonstrated the true meaning of the Christmas season. Warm thanks to all for
opening your hearts!
ME to WE Initiatives A reminder that our ME to WE Team has begun the Zink Bat-tery Project. Together in part-nership with Tech Company, we are collecting dead batter-ies, AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, but not limited only to those. Diarrhea kills more than 1,400 children under the age of 5 years due to zinc deficiency. If you bring in one dead AA battery, you can save the lives of 6 children. er, we will change the world."

We ended the month of De-
cember with our Christmas Performance. Special thanks to our staff, students, dance instructors, and to all our parent vol-unteers for helping in any
of these events.
The true meaning of the Christmas spirit was everywhere!
Skills Canada Card-board Boat Race On December 7th, our school representative team, along with Mr. Feraday, leader and coach, participated in the Skills Canada Cardboard Boat Race, hosted at St. Patrick Catholic Secondary
School. The event, open to all schools, was a fun filled day spent designing, creating, building, and racing the cardboard boats. Our team worked col-laboratively, showing leader-
ship, math, technology, and
problem solving skills. The competition challeng-es students to build the best boat they can out of cardboard and tape only within a short timeframe. They then test the boats in the water for distance and speed. Our team
St. Bruno/St. Raymond, finished in 3rd place. Congratulations to Samantha, Alessandra, Calliope, and Dante! Special thanks to Mr. Feraday for his unlimited dedication and commitment. We look forward to the City
Competition in February 2018!
Primary Soccer House League Tournaments On December 5th and 6th, St. Bruno/St. Raymond hosted the Primary Soccer House League Tournaments for our west end schools. Our Boys’ and Girls’ teams showed exception-al team work and sportsmanship in every game, prov-ing their hard work paid off. Our soccer teams did a won-derful job of work-
ing together, and playing with a lot of heart. Well done to all our boys and girls. Many thanks to our coach, Ms. Taylor, for her dedication to our teams. Spe-cial thanks to Mr. Howard for
helping out throughout the day of the tourna-
ment.

An Important Winter Safety Concern
With winter weather now here, including cold tem-peratures, ice and snow-fall, we ask that you rein-force with your child that “snow stays on the ground”. Students are reminded that there is no snowball throwing, kicking of snow, taking hats, etc. In our
continued effort to keep
wear outside when the weath-er becomes rainy or snowy. Except under unusual condi-tions, students go outside during recess and lunch hour. Research indicates that time outdoors in the fresh air al-lows students to refocus on their studies. We will monitor the weather conditions daily and make decisions based upon our local conditions. Please bear in mind that chil-dren who are too ill to go out-side should be resting at home and not be at school.
our students safe and pre-vent injuries in the school yards, the play structure in the JK/SK school yard is closed during any icy, wet and/or snowy winter weath-er. The integrity of the plastic material around/under the play structures change with cold tempera-tures. Please take this op-portunity to discuss these issues with your child in the interest of student safety.

Winter Dress With the arrival of winter, cold temperatures are a reality of the season and it is a necessi-ty for dressing properly for the weather (mittens, hats, scarves, boots, etc.). Labeling items would be helpful, as many boots and mittens look very similar. Many items make their way to the Lost and Found box and are often not claimed. We ask that each child have indoor footwear (e.g., running shoes) to wear in the school and boots to

This month at St. Bruno/St. Raymond, we will demon-strate our courage to live our faith in all that we do, be it by continuing our support for our Me to We Committee initiatives, CSPC and school events and projects, and/or continuing our fundraising
efforts.
St. Thomas Aquinas Prayer (January 28th)
Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to
seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to
you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you, and a hope
of finally embracing you.
Amen.
While January sees the be-ginning of the New Year, many of us also regard it as the true beginning of the long, hard winter. In this sense, it is apt that the virtue for January is COURAGE. The quote for this month is Isaiah 41:10, “Do not be afraid; I am with You”. “Be not afraid!” is also what the angel tells Mary at the an-nunciation (Lk 1:30) and at the resurrection, another angel uses the same words to tell the women at the tomb that Christ has risen (Mt 28:5). Jesus himself uses these words to strengthen
his apostles (Jn 6:20).
It takes a lot of courage to practice and be true to our
Catholic faith.
