August 26, 2020 2020-2021 Issue 2 Our Lady of Guadalupe School In the MSJ Dominican Tradition Faithful Companion, in this new year, I pray: to live deeply, with purpose, to live freely, with detachment, to live wisely, with humility, to live justly, with compassion, to live lovingly, with fidelity, to live mindfully, with awareness, to live gratefully, with generosity, to live fully, with enthusiasm. Help me to hold this vision and to daily renew it in my heart, becoming ever more one with you, my truest Self. -Joyce Rupp Dear OLG Families, We have been in our new school year for one week. It has been such a joy for me to hear the children and teachers already deep into their distance learning. From the sharing of favorite bible quotes to studying place value to the proper formation of letters – learning is vibrantly alive at Our Lady of Guadalupe School! Please do send in photos of your children engaged in this most magical of human activity – learning! Tomorrow, Thursday, August 27 at 6:30PM is a Back-to-School gathering for our 6 th -7 th -8 th grade families. This is a mandatory meeting. You will receive a Zoom link in your email and it will be posted to your child’s Google calendar. The first part of the meeting will be a General Parent meeting and then you will go to into breakout rooms with the homeroom teacher. For parents with children in grades K-5, there is a General Parent meeting on Thursday, September 10 at 6:30PM. This is a mandatory meeting. We will not have the tradition Back-to-School meetings for these grades since teachers shared much of the information at the Zoom meetings before school began. Our famous, delicious Cookie Dough Fundraiser is poised to begin on Friday! You are receiving the catalogue and order form with this bulletin. Parents, these items are so delicious we have used them as thank you gifts for our generous Foundation donors. They have actually called us not only to thank us, but also to ask for the recipe! I did admit that they was not home-made! This is a tasty way to support the additional cost incurred by Distance Learning due to the use of curriculum programs and purchase of licenses needed to ensure the best learning and teaching for our school. More information is in this bulletin. May keep focused on all the blessings of this new year! As God’s Bridges, S. Janice Therese, O.P.

OLG’s Fall fundraiser will start on Friday with a virtual Kick-Off including a well-loved guest! A catalog including items such as cookie dough, cinnamon rolls, cheesecake and popcorn to sell to or purchase as gifts for your friends, neighbors, co-workers and family members is attached to this newsletter. Please forward this wonderful opportunity to all you know. A separate order form is also attached since all items are ordered on this form. If you would like a hard copy of the catalogue or if you need additional order forms, please let us know and we’ll have it available for pick-up at the school. Even though participation in this fundraiser is not mandatory, families will earn one service hour for every 5 items sold from the catalog. In addition, for every 10 items sold from the catalog your family will receive one free item!! Please note which item(s) you wish to receive at the bottom of the order form. The campaign ends on September 11. All order forms need to be turned in to the school by end of day Monday, September 14. Please only send in checks, payable to OLG School, for any fundraising items. Please make sure your order forms and check are in sealed envelopes. Someone will be at school from 7:30AM-5:00PM. You may also drop the envelop in the mail slot located to the left of the front doors. Delivery of the fundraiser items will be on Tuesday, September 29. Please plan to pick up the items ordered that day (after 2:00pm). Unfortunately, we don’t have space to store orders overnight. Items can be re-frozen and kept for up to 1 year or they will also keep in the refrigerator for 3 days.
