This!snapshot!gives!a!refreshing!insight!into!the!life!of!our!children.!!Creative,!challenged,!focused!are!the!words!that!came!to!mind!as!I!walked!through!the!classrooms!this!morning.!!I!am!so!grateful!to!the!teachers,!instructional!assistants,!staff!who!have!chosen!to!be!partners!in!educating!your!children.!!Without!their!incredible!dedication,!the!great!work!of!teaching!would!not!be!a!reality.!!!!

Also!crucial!is!the!dedication!of!so!many!of!our!parents!and!families!for!the!various!events!and!activities!that!occur.!!Our!upGcoming!Harvest!Festival!is!only!possible!because!of!the!leadership!of!the!CoGchairs,!Lois!Henry!and!Jocelyn!Russell,!with!the!experienced!guidance!of!former!Chair,!Mary!FlackGMeza.!!But!without!the!various!booth!chairs!and!their!committee,!this!coming!Saturday!would!not!be!a!reality.!!Thank!you!to!all!the!chairpersons!(see!list!on!page3).!!!Thank!you!also!to!all!the!families!who!will!be!helping!out!on!the!day!itself!!!!!God!bless!you!for!enabling!us!to!be!such!a!wonderful!school!!!S.!Janice!Therese,!O.P.!!!!

Our Lady of Fatima Statue Visit

Dear School Families, What is happening on October 31? Of course, it is Halloween, an exciting day for children. It is also the day that we are hosting The National Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima here at OLG. I am inviting you to drop by the church after school to pay a visit. Jean Ng, the second grade aide, will be leading the rosary at 12:15 p.m., and you are invited to join her. Even though the children (and maybe you parents) will be dressed up, Mary and her son Jesus, will be pleased to welcome you. HALLOWEEN(COSTUME(GUIDELINES(!Halloween,!October!31,!is!a!noon!dismissal!day.!!Students!may!come!dressed!in!costumes!per!the!guidelines!below:!!!?!!Costumes!depicting!horror!are!NOT!!!!!!ALLOWED!(e.g.,!“Grim!Reaper”,!“Jason”)!?!!NO!WEAPONS!(fake!knives,!guns,!swords!or!!!!blood)!?!Costumes!should!be!modest!and!sensitive!to!!!!others.!!

HALLOWEEN(ACTIVITIES((

The Halloween activities will consist of a parade, the 8th grade’s Haunted House and games. The parade will take place at approximately 8:30am in the morning assembly area. Parents are invited to come and watch the parade. In case of rain there is an alternate plan. The 8th grade classroom becomes the “Haunted House” for the day. Children will go through the Haunted Housed only if they wish to do so. Mrs. Hughes and the 8th Graders have a “Good Fairy Tour” with the lights on and a “More Scary Tour” with the lights out. Children may choose the tour they wish or choose to not go through at all. The entrance fee for the Haunted House is one (1) canned food product or non-perishable food item (more than one would be most welcome). These food items will be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society to use in their holiday food baskets for those in need.

“TRUNK OR TREAT”

(Something New and Fun!!! We are in need of parents to volunteer to decorate their cars/trunks for our “Trunk or Treat” activity on Halloween. If interested in participating please contact Shannon Bellison at sbellison@csdo.org. We need you to be available from 8:30am to 12:00pm on October 31st. Thank you, Student Council

Harvest Festival Cake Walk Donors

Thank you for always being so generous with your donations. If you bring cookies, brownies, cupcakes, or similar items, please remember to package them in groups of six. Ziploc bags or plates with well-secured plastic wrap will do. And try to avoid items with nuts. If you're not sure, label it as possibly containing nuts. Thanks! Come see us at the Harvest Festival -- we guarantee it will be a Cake Walk!!!

6 ft. Folding Tables Wanted!! The Harvest Festival Committee is in need of some 6ft. folding tables. If you have one or more to loan to us for Saturday’s event, please contact the office at 510-657-1674.

8th grade Fundraiser at

The OLG 8th grade class has arranged a fundraiser night Thursday, 10-23-14, at

Mt. Mike’s Pizza located at 3952 Washington Blvd from 3pm to close. Proceeds will go to the 8th grade graduation fund.

A flyer was sent home today. If you forget to bring the flyer with you

please mention OLG when you are at the register.

First 50 OLG families that arrive at Mt. Mike’s between 3pm and 5pm will be eligible for a door prize.
