This is definitely the case for our Band & Strings Director, Mr. Daryl Lazaro. After 3.5 years at OLG, Mr. Lazaro will be leaving us to pursue further education in the technology field. With his life-changing upcoming marriage, he is truly embarking on a God-centered adventure. We thank Mr. Lazaro for all he has done to develop our Band and Strings Program, for teaching our 7 th and 8 th grade math classes, for the work he did as an Instructional Assistant and Extended Care Assistant and for enhancing our liturgies with his guitar playing. We will miss his musical leadership, his flexibility and his friendly demeanor! God be with you, Mr. Lazaro. Thank you for gifting us with your talents and presence. Come back and play for our Parish Council Benefit Concert, please! The other new excitement for us is the upcoming graduation of the Class of 2017. Having had the privilege of teaching these young people religion this year, I’ve have been blessed to see them grow and mature. For their final assignment I asked them to reflect on how they have grown, changed and how they see God as part of this year. Here are some of their reflections: “Religion class changed me in how I act now compared to last year because I have a clear view now that God is with me everywhere I go.” “…since I’ve read and learned more about the New Testament, I started to realize how good of a person I can be.” “I didn’t realize that God had that much of an impact on my life. Religion helped me get through nervousness before a big game and to respect everyone with empathy. The CSTs (Catholic Social Teachings) helped me to think about things I could do to help the poor and needy.” “…I know that with every choice I make, God will be there, guiding me, leading me, making me feel like I have a purpose.” Thank you eighth graders, for showing me God each and every day! May we all know our loving God’s presence in our daily lives! In God’s Peace, S. Janice Therese, O.P. First Day of School The first day of school for the 2017-2018 school year will be Tuesday, August 22 nd .
