A world that, if we have our way, will be pow-ered by far, far more than the predicted 10% of electricity by wind by 2020.

A world where Wind takes its place alongside Oil & Gas through ever more competitive cost of electricity and its efficient and reliable delivery on an industrial and global scale.

A world populated by far more than the 43,000 turbines that we’ve already raised on behalf of our customers in sixty five countries across five continents.

A world where we are relentlessly committed to focusing our 30 years pioneering pure-play experience, our R&D centre (the largest in the world), every shred of revelatory data from our real-time monitoring of thousands of turbines; and the unmatched diversity of capability and skills residing in our more than 20,000 people worldwide, on one pure goal: generating the greatest and most sustainable return on wind for our customers.

Because a world without our customers success is a world without Wind. That failure is not an option, neither for Vestas, our customers, or our planet.

Wind. It means the world to us.

FOCUS ON RS componentS

Graduate schemes can open up new opportunities for young engineers, which is the case for Naila Kiani at RS Components

A flexible component

FOCUS ON RS componentS

‘the flexibility of the programme makes it stand out from many

other graduate trainee schemes.’ Naila Kiani, RS

Components.

NAILA KIANI is currently involved in a project with the e-commerce team at RS Components (RS), developing and implementing new search and browse functionality for its re-launched website. This has seen her get involved in a variety of activities – from implementing new product level functions to setting merchandising rules for the company’s global websites.

When she started the graduate programme in September 2010, Naila worked on a completely different project in another

area of the business. Tasked with assessing the European energy efficiency and renewable energy market, her findings are still being used by the Product Management team to help them identify future requirements.

These are Naila’s first projects in a two year placement at RS, Europe’s leading distributor of electronic, electrical and industrial components. Each year, graduates get to work across different areas of the business, developing the skills they learned at University - and learning valuable new ones.

“I joined the e-commerce team at exactly the right time,” says Naila. “The global launch of the new website was imminent, so I was able to get involved with the final build straight away. This has helped me learn new skills in online marketing and trading – invaluable for what is increasingly a digitally focused world.”

Her first project helped build her confidence in the workplace after leaving university. “I had so much support from my line manager and the product managers – and it was invaluable having a mentor. The amount I learned in

my first six months was incredible and a reflection of the amount of time and training RS invests in graduates.”

Naila graduated with a BEng in Aerospace Engineering at Queen Mary, University of London last year, and she wanted to join a graduate scheme where she could get involved in technical projects and develop her problem solving and analytical skills.

Ten months into the programme, both projects have been challenging and rewarding.

“RS Components has a really positive attitude towards skills development,” she says. “I’ve undertaken a variety of courses already and with the help of HR, I’ve successfully identified and registered for professional training courses to help me on my next two placements. I was also given IT training so that I could be a more effective part of the e-commerce team.”

Naila is looking forward to starting her next project in October, which will see her develop her project management skills within Sales before moving to the Electronics Team.*
