Dear families and friends I hope you have been able to be outdoors enjoy the beautiful days this week. Education Week: Families and friends are warmly invited to join us for our 2018 Education Week celebrations next Tuesday 7 August. We will be commencing our day at 9.30am with the Tabloid Sports Day, where students will engage in a variety of activities, accruing points for their sporting house. Our Education Week Assembly will follow and then we will all enjoy a delicious sausage sizzle! Just a reminder that there will be a prize for the best dressed supporter for each house. Hope to see you there! Staff Car Park: Thank you to everyone who has assisted by not using the staff car park as a ‘kiss and drop’ area. There is a significant amount of traffic around the entrance to the car park of a morning, which impacts on cars and buses trying to exit the school. I would ask that you do not use the car park during those peak times. Families and friends are encouraged to ‘join the cue’ of Assisted Travel vehicles during pick up times to avoid having to find a park. Mornings between 8:50am – 9:00am is a time where there should not be a lot of waiting. Afternoon pickup is between 2:30pm – 3:00pm. Mayor’s Breakfast: On Wednesday morning this week, three members of

our School Leadership Team represented Hunter River Community School at

the Mayor’s Breakfast. This is a wonderful opportunity for School Leaders to

network and learn about leadership and mindfulness. This year the function’s

guest speaker was Rebecca Sharrock, a young author and motivational

speaker who talks about her journey of dealing with autism – one step at a

time. Her motivational address was inspirational and our School Leaders

were certainly able to relate to some of the issues she was discussing. During

the morning, the group were able to meet Miss Maitland Showgirl,

Ms Caitlin Hipwell and saw the new council flag being raised for the first time.

Congratulations Emma, Alyssa and Jackson for being outstanding

ambassadors and thank you Maitland City Council for the wonderful

opportunity.

Riding for the Disabled: All of our riders are back in the saddle for the

Term 3 riding program. It has been wonderful to see the improvement in all

the riders, with Brielle and Jack riding in a saddle for the first time this week!

Congratulations everyone!

Indigenous Streetball Tournament: Last Friday a group of students were

very excited to attend the Indigenous Streetball Basketball tournament that

was held at Hunter Valley Grammar School. The group were able to meet

some of the players and officials and enjoyed watching the 3 on 3

competition, picking up some tips on how to shoot baskets! Well done

everyone!

Goodbye Pam: After 40 years working in schools, our dedicated cleaner,

Pam, has advised that she will be ‘hanging up her mop’ after her morning

shift next Friday. Pam has worked tirelessly for decades to ensure that our

school is always in top condition and has always been a wonderful supporter

of our students and programs. We will certainly miss Pam very much and

can’t imagine our school without her, however we wish her all the best for

her retirement future and hope that she and Greg enjoy their planned

travels. Pam will always be a treasured member of our HRCS family and I

would like to thank her for her years of dedication.

I hope that everyone has a great week.

Captains Awards: Today’s Captain’s Award was selected by Jesse and was awarded to Ethan from

Room 6 for waiting patiently for his bus.

Prefect Awards: Our Prefect’s Award for this week was selected by Coby B and was given to

Charleigh from Room 6 for being a good friend.

House Captain Awards: Today’s House Captain’s Award was selected by Sophie and was awarded to

Chloe from Room 9 for great participation in sport.

This term Room 11 have been exploring the

history of places throughout the world. We

began with the country of Germany. We

incorporated this topic into our Food Tech

program and made some German sausages

and mashed potatoes.

In sport Room 11 has been working on our

Basketball skills. This week we focused on

dribbling a ball and passing the ball to our

friends.
