CNAB Team Patna Region organizes Star Retailers Training

ProgrammeBy - Manoj Chaturvedi

Cultivation unlike past has become a very scientific process which

involves continuous upgradation in the methodology as well as

usage of fertilizers & nutrients. This has led to a substantial

increase in the produce output. Today progressive farmers have

implemented and incorporated new technologies and several

nutrient fertilizers. TCL has always been at the forefront to educate

farmers & retailers to play a significant role in food security in the

nation. TCL has taken a lead in reaching a large number of

farmers in the best possible manner and the team feels proud

that they are a part of this movement. The team took an initiative

in educating retailers who communicate with farmers directly on a

daily basis and organized a pre-monsoon meet of Star/Key

retailers throughout June 2010 across the entire Bihar region. The

team conducted many such meets to reward and recognise the

praiseworthy contribution of such Retailers.

Approximately 95 % Star retailers of CNAB not only attended but

also participated wholeheartedly in the meet. The Star retailers

were also rewarded based on their last year performance &

contribution. Along with it green books were also given as a token

of appreciation. Star retailers were also delighted to know that very

soon they will receive "Fertilizer Display Rake And Stock Board

“with marker. This initiative will further strengthen TCL's

association with the customers.

Customer Circle- Delivering Higher Value to Customers

The journey of Customer Value Management at CNAB kick-

started with the concept of Customer Circles. Initially Customer

Circles were organized at Agra & Aligarh and it was good to have

all stakeholders at single platform namely Farmers, Retailers,

Dealers & Company persons from various departments. It helped

the team to have a better understanding of Customer issues and

concerns.

The Customer circle concept is now cascading down in all the

territories in the current financial year. Starting the journey for this

year, the first customer circle was organized at Bareilly (U.P.)

wherein Dealers, Retailers and company persons participated. The

Dealers and Retailers appreciated the CVM program because they

felt that it will help to increase their business and the concept of

Branding of Dealers & Retailers is going to benefit them in long

term. The program was completed with chalking out all the issues

& concerns of dealers & retailers. Now after three months the

same program will be organized with all the participants to review

actions taken and to have much better understanding.

CPB Team Nagpur: Converting Local Salt brand users to

Tata Salt through purity testsBy - Vivek Vaid

Nagpur town consumes almost 1200 tons per month of local

branded salt against 350 tons per month of Tata Salt. Among

these local brands salt sales, cow brand salt per month sales is

1000 tons. So majorly in Nagpur one can find only 2 types of salt

in market - one is Tata Salt everywhere and other is Cow Brand

salt. Looking back at the history of Cow brand salt & probing on

why this cow brand salt sells highest in Nagpur & not in other

regions of Vidarbha, we analyzed that this is a traditional brand

which is locally made in Nagpur from very low grade quality salt

that comes from Gandhidham in raw and uncrushed condition

through rake. Crushing, sorting and packing happens in Nagpur

itself, post which cow brand is marketed at Rs.4/- MRP, through

cow brand owners of Nagpur. Distribution of cow brand salt is

done through retail outlets through vans and rickshaw pullers.

Due to very high consumer pull attached with Cow brand salt

from Nagpurians, to retailers, cow brand team shows no respect

while delivering salt to their doors. There are no retail calls done to

sell this brand. Rickshaw pullers/van drivers place loose packets

of cow brand salt at retail counters & collect cash money from

retailers.

As a strategy to fight back Cow brand salt in Nagpur, sales team

chalked out a two way plan – From one side, keep educating

Nagpurians who use cow brand salt regarding its impure state

and low amounts of iodine as against Tata Salt which is much

pure and iodized than cow brand salt. From other side, keep

servicing retail outlets with respect on weekly basis with

streamlined beat-wise despatches of Tata Salt with proper sales

call from sales officers. By doing this Nagpur team could very well

increase the consumer pull on Tata Salt and enhance the trade

satisfaction levels.

As a way to educate consumers, a Tata Salt Branded van carrying

two lady promoters with Tata Salt purity test kits, which were

rotated in colonies where cow brand consumer pull was higher

than that of Tata Salt. The lady promoters went door-to-door and

conduct purity tests of Tata Salt against cow brand salt or the salt

kept in consumer's house. Results of purity tests proved an eye

opener for the consumers & they got permanently converted to

Tata Salt.

After seeing the purity test with Tata Salt most of the consumers

said that they will stop buying cow brand salt & will start Tata Salt.

This door-to-door promotion activity is being carried out since last

5-6 months, the results of which can be seen now. This activity is

still being carried out in Nagpur town due to its highly effective

impact on consumer's mind.

nimble and customers expectations are increasing; we need to

develop new ideas, better processes, more innovative products and

services. Today, companies require a steady flow of ideas and

solutions from those who are closest to the processes and the

customers. To create an adaptable and responsive organization,

we must develop a culture that actively solicits input and

recommendations from every one. Therefore, to foster a culture of

innovation throughout the organization, each one of us

participation for new idea generation is essential.

Nothing demonstrates our commitment to this approach better

than a suggestion recognized, rewarded and immediately put to

practice. Certainly, this will enable us to make our journey

successful.

On the morning of June 27, 2010, a group of enthusiastic

XPLORERS (The Adventure Club at Tata Chemicals Limited) got

together at Dadar in the wee hours of a sleepy Sunday morning,

to make their way to the heights of the enchanting Malshej Ghat.

The team reached the top of Malshej Ghat after a grueling four

hour zig-zag journey through the ghats. The skies were clear and

bright, and the lush greenary and shimmering waterfalls around,

made the view from the top, truly magical.

After a short break at the MTDC resort, the group went trekking

with BNHS Group leaders through thick foliage. The company of

the BNHS experts made the trek even more interesting, since they

kept sharing information about the flora and fauna, the birds, the

reptiles and all the moving and non-moving objects present in the

jungle. On the way the group leaders released three snakes

(Russel's Viper, Common Sand Boa and Indian Rock Python)

brought in plastic bottles into their natural habitat. The team

rejoiced to see them slithering up the nearest tree, or away into

the wilderness, right before their eyes. As the team made their way

deep into the jungle, they spotted the Indian Giant Squirrel, the

Brown Fish-owl, the Shaheen Falcon, Common Kestrel and the

Malabar Whistling Thrush.

Xplorers on Cloud Nine

TCL's Adventure Club Members Trek to Malshej GhatBy - Rohinton Dadachanji

After lunch the team headed back to the base and spotted a

Bamboo Pit Viper coiled around a tree. This made for an exciting

photo-session for the Xplorers. Dark clouds, slowly covered the

valley, and soon the heavens opened up accompanied with

squally winds and hazy clouds to bring rain. The gusty winds

made the clouds rise from the valley towards the group and the

Xplorers were literally 'Floating in the Clouds’

The group headed back home in the evening, enthralled and

totally recharged to take on life in the concrete jungle .
