Dates For Diaries Principal’s Message
Dear families and friends
I hope everyone enjoyed their June long weekend!
Star Struck: Everyone has been involved in all things Star Struck this week.
On Wednesday our performing troupe headed off for their first rehearsal of
the week. Everyone had a wonderful time reconnecting with friends and
watching each of the dances.
On Thursday the excitement levels continued to rise, with students attending
the first dress rehearsal of the year. Everyone was thrilled to be dancing in
their costumes and were very proud of their efforts on stage!
Friday marked the beginning of two days of performances. The matinee
session was a sell-out, with hundreds of schools watching the extravaganza. It
was a very emotional moment for all the staff and families present when our
dancers ran out on stage. Everyone performed beautifully and their smiles
after the performance was certainly worth all of the hard work.
Performances continue on Friday evening, Saturday Matinee and Saturday
Evening. If you have not yet purchased tickets, please contact Ticketek!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff who have
volunteered their time to support students during this year’s Star Struck
journey. We certainly could not participate in the program without their
commitment and dedication.

I would also like to thank our on stage support volunteers. This year we have been extremely
fortunate to receive assistance from some lovely young people from Maitland High School. Jasmine
Campbell, Brigid Douglas, Chloe Heazlewood and Caitlin Rodrick, along with Britt and Alexis have
worked alongside our dancers on stage to support them throughout the performances. We are
extremely grateful for their assistance, as our dancers would not have been able to perform without
their support. Well done and thank you!
Star Struck is a significant commitment for our families and friends, with several early starts and late
pick- ups. Once again our ability to perform on such a large stage is dependent on the support of our
families, and we would like to sincerely thank them for all they have done!
Finally I would like to congratulate Tash for all of her coordination of Hunter River Community School’s
Star Struck squad. There is an enormous amount of work involved, however the rewards of seeing our
students performing alongside their peers, in front of thousands of cheering fans, makes everything
worthwhile! Congratulations everyone!
Star Struck Excursion: On Friday a group of students headed off to watch the Star Struck matinee
performance. Everyone loved the lights, music and overall atmosphere of the session, and were
extremely excited to see their friends on stage! Thank you to Mandy for coordinating the excursion
and well done everyone!
Cultural identity: Did you know that 20% of our students and their families identify as being of
Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent? Aboriginal Education is an extremely important and
highly valued element within, not only our school, but the Department of Education. This term we
have been gathering information from our Indigenous families that focus on the origins of their
ancestry. We will be using this information to guide class projects which will target each identified
area and investigate the unique factors of each area. We are looking forward to learning about the
histories of our friends.
Congratulations: We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Viv Davies on being
presented with his Proficient Teacher Certificate this week. Viv is a wonderful, creative and dedicated
educator, and we are certainly fortunate to have him on our staffing roster! Well done Viv!
Chickens: We are pleased to introduce our new chickens. These beautiful birds are an Orpington/
Frizzle Cross who are as unique as their feathers. Room Hornbill have named our 2 new chickens,
one being Daffy (black tail feathers), and the other is Molly (brown tail feathers). Our new additions
have made friends with Bella, Snowy and Cloud. Our chickens love food scraps – if you have any
vegetable scraps, please do not hesitate to send them in.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful week! Kind Regards - Tracey

Shopping: What a great shopping
experience we had this week. The
kids were fantastic, they used the
PODD book to find items. In the
pictures, Lilly is telling Brielle that
she’s having a lemonade and Blake is
telling Brooke he’s having a
milkshake.
We had a very busy morning in Giraffe Room. In the pictures, Tash is
talking to Isaac and Elsie about ‘how they are feeling’ and ‘I can see
something’s wrong’. Great work Tash!

our Room 1 students.
Every afternoon we visit the other
classrooms and offices to collect
food scraps and take it up to feed
the chickens.
We have experienced holding and
touching “Snowy” our white chicken.
Hopefully soon, we will be collecting
our first eggs at HRCS.
