Principal’s Message

What a busy and exciting week everyone has had at HRCS!

Sailing: Our Sailability program on Grahamstown Dam commenced this

week, with students and staff being very excited to get back on the water.

This is a wonderful program that is operated primarily by volunteers and

offers young people with additional needs a range of boating experiences.

Our “sailors” feel very comfortable on the water and are learning many new

skills and having a fabulous time. Thank you to Olivia who has coordinated

the Sailing Program for several years and who is a wonderful advocate for

Sailability.

Student Update Forms: Thank you to families who have returned their

Student Update Packs. The information collected from the documentation

ensures that our records are current and that vital medical information is

relevant. If you are having trouble completing any of the forms, or require a

new pack, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Assisted Travel: There are several new driver combinations operating

Assisted Travel runs this year and they are getting to know the young people

they are transporting. To assist them in this, it would be very helpful if you

could provide the transport team with a brief outline of what your child likes

and ways that may assist them travel safely to and from school.

Assisted Travel has asked me to remind families of the following:

There must be a person over 18 at drop off and pick up points every

day

Drivers are not able to vary from their run card and drop students off at

alternative addresses

Variations for change of routine should be submitted through the school

at least 10 days prior to the change

Where possible, please contact the driver prior as early as possible to

advise if your child will not be attending school

If families have any concerns or issues, please do not hesitate to

contact the school or Assisted Travel directly on 1300 338 278

If you would like to discuss anything regarding Assisted Travel, please contact the school and talk to myself

or Katey Hughes.

Support Teacher Transition: We would like to congratulate Gayl Chappell on her successful appointment

to the role of Support Teacher Transition in the Newcastle area. Gayl has held the Support Teacher

Transition role based at HRCS for several years and we will certainly miss her experience and expertise.

We are extremely fortunate that David Nevins has agreed to continue to relieve in the role for the

Uniform Shop remainder of the term. David’s role involves helping families with planning and

transition to post school life, completing assessments and assisting families

with the NDIS process. Appointments with David can be made by contacting

the school.

NDIS: It is anticipated that NDIS therapy support, for families who have

submitted a therapy request form, will commence in the upcoming weeks. It

would be greatly appreciated if, once families have received their letter, they

could contact the therapists and advise them to contact the school before their

initial visit to coordinate the exchange of documentation required. A copy of

the request form is attached.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week! Kind Regards - Tracey
