Page 1 Term 4 Week 6 2017 NSW Minister for EducaƟon visits Homebush West Public This week we welcomed the NSW Minister for EducaƟon, the Hon. Mr Rob Stokes, MP to Homebush West Public School. The Minister ocially ‘turned the soil’ on our redevelopment site to mark the start of our new building. The minister was joined by the Director of Public Schools Stratheld, Kathy Powzun, representaƟves from the P&C, School Council, and representaƟves from the Department of EducaƟon Assets, MACE Project Managers and Taylor ConstrucƟon Group. The Minister, alongside our Director and guests enjoyed performances from our school orchestra and dance group, and they were treated to a special recital of the 2017 Music Count Us In song ‘Shine Together’. Remembrance Day Ceremony Thank You Thank you to all the families and students who helped us observe Remembrance Day so well. Last Friday school representa ves hosted a very sombre, respec ul ceremony to recognise those who gave their lives in service, to secure peace.  Students and staff wore red poppies as a mark of respect.

The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge 2017 This week we received 530 2017 PRC Cer ficates from the NSW Premier’s office. These will be presented next week during Stage assemblies.   Our congratula ons to the 79 students who were awarded a Gold Cer ficate for 4 years par cipa on in the Challenge.   The 12 students who were awarded a Pla num cer ficate for 7 years par cipa on will receive their cer ficates at our School Award Night in December. This year was our most successful result to date – congratula ons HWPS.  Mrs Windon Teacher/Librarian  Basketball Last Thursday was the final day of out 2017 basketball program. We had an overwhelming response to the program this year with numerous parents and students indica ng their interest in next year’s program.  The program led by Mr Leeson and Mr Smith introduced the sport to newcomers and helped to build the skills of exis ng players. Throughout the 10 week program we combined fitness drills with passing, dribbling, shoo ng and basic skill sessions while also teaching the fundamentals of the game and rules.  Each week was fun filled and every student went home happily exhausted and we might have even uncovered a few stars in the making!  A big thank you goes to Ms Loos and Mr Fung for their support in ge ng the program up and running and to Ms Joseph who ran a few sessions.  On behalf of Mr Leeson and Mr Smith, we thank everyone for their effort and we hope you all enjoyed the program. We are already looking forward to next year.

Stage 1 Audi ons: Held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in 21W, week 7. 

Stage 2 Audi ons: Held on Monday and Tuesday in 43P, week 7.  

Stage 3 Audi ons: Held on Monday at lunch me in 65J, week 8.  

 

HAVE YOU GOT YOUR MUSIC ON A CD or USB? 

Singers and dancers: You need your music clearly labelled on a USB: Name of group/

individual, song  tle and track. 

Musicians: Please inform your stage teacher which instrument,  tle of song/piece you 

are playing. If you are in a group, names of the group members are required. 

Costumes: You do not have to spend a lot of money. Be crea ve and clever and find 

some items that you already have and recycle.  

You should have received your entry form for the Audi on. If you haven’t please see Miss 

Willmington.  

AUDITIONS start week 7. This is week 6.

The Star Factor team are in need of your help and support by dona ng prizes for each category. We would greatly appreciate prizes; they can be sta onery items, toys, books or vouchers. Please send dona ons to the office.

PSSA Coaches – Summer Senior Cricket ‐ Mr Leeson Junior Cricket ‐ Mr Fung Senior So ball ‐ Mr Smith Junior Teeball ‐ Mrs Morris  Junior Cricket ‐ Almighty Tussle at Timberell The Junior Boys Cricket Team were primed to put in to prac ce the skills and drills at training with a focus on line and length bowling and selec ve stroke making. The team made their way to Five Dock Public School's home ground, the glorious Timberell Park. Today, the 'Rapid' Rohan and the 'Spin King' Sandeep made their debut in the bowling a ack. All our fielders were  ger‐like as they pounced on anything within reach! All‐Star Akshath and Zippy Zubin saved some boundaries with tenacious fielding. Akshath executed a superb run out from mid‐off that Ricky Pon ng would have been proud of! Five Dock bowled waywardly which cost them in the end. Well done boys on notching up an outstanding victory!   Player of the Match Rohan C.  Junior Cricket Score Homebush West PS beat Five Dock PS 116.5‐89 runs  Senior Cricket Report A er a strong performance last week the boys were keen to capitalise on some red hot form and went off in search of another win. They came up against a strong side in Five Dock PS who like us were short on players due to illness. HWPS didn't let this deter them and played like they had a full team, domina ng both bowling and ba ng, and won quite comfortably. Some superb bowling from Captain Aryan and wonderful hi ng all round proved to be the big difference between the two sides. Well done to all players who have shown real commitment, sportsmanship and skill development over the concluding matches.  Final score: Homebush West PS 150 runs Five Dock PS 64 runs  Coach Leeson.  Senior Girls So ball The Senior Girls So ball Team played against Burwood PS this week. We carried over the good form from the close loss last week to record one of our highest scores of the season with a 17 ‐ 9 win. Everyone ba ed well with a highlight for Jyotsna, Supa and Sanya all scoring three runs for the first  me this year.  Varshini caught five ba ers out from the pitching posi on while our captain Amy put in a great game organising the team. This was another week where everyone in the team had a highlight. Burwood were great sports and the fun atmosphere between both teams meant that we all ended the week on a high.    Junior Girls T‐Ball This week we played against Burwood at Bressington park. The weather was great and we won the toss. A er winning the toss we had a great feeling that we were going to have a fantas c game. We fielded first and Burwood made a good start ge ng 4 home in the innings. We came out figh ng and were able to get 7 runs in the first innings and held Burwood to zero in the next two innings. We were successful in making 21 runs for the game. We felt proud of our achievement and congratulate Burwood on their excellent sportsmanship.

 Kindergarten 2018 Enrolments for Kindergarten 2018 are now being finalised.   Children born between 1st August 2012 and 31st July 2013 are eligible to enrol. Parents / carers who would like to enrol a child for Kindergarten next year, need to visit the school office. Please bring the following;    Child’s birth cer ficate for proof of age  Passports and visas for families born overseas  Proof of residence (e.g. Council rate no ce, gas, rental agreement, electricity 

  account or    bank account). We do not accept driver’s licences.  Immunisa on Cer ficate  Health Plans were required (allergy, asthma etc)

Kiss and Ride zones are for your child’s safety, your convenience and to minimise congestion and confusion.

Kiss and Ride rules:

• Kiss and Ride zones and ‘No Parking’ zones operate under the same conditions – may stop to drop off or pick up children for a maximum of 2 minutes

• Driver must remain in or within 3 metres of vehicle

• Zone applies only during hours of operation

Minimum penalty $173 and 2 demerit points (school zone)

Remember• Do not leave your vehicle

To assist with traffi c fl ow, drivers should remain in the car whilst children get in and out. Children should travel with bags in the car (not in the boot).

• Be timelyIf your child does not get in or out of the vehicle within 2 minutes, you must leave and re-enter the No Parking zone.

• Stay in sequenceDon’t cut in the queue. Drop off or pick up your child close to the top of the zone, allowing vehicles following you to enter the zone in an orderly manner.

• Child safetyPlease ensure children get in or out of the vehicle on the kerb side. The back seat is the safest seat for children to travel in, regardless of the make of vehicle. Ensure children have their restraints securely fastened before driving off .

• No U-turnsDo not do u-turns in busy school zones. They are dangerous and put children at risk.

HWPS Star Factor is almost here 

才艺大赛即将到来

下周开始初赛试镜

- 幼稚园试镜,第七周星期三,星期四午饭时间,地点在 KO 课室

- 一二年级试镜,第七周星期一至星期五午饭时间,地点在 21W 课室

- 三四年级试镜,第七周星期一,星期二午饭时间,地点在 43P 课室

- 五六年级试镜,第七周星期一午饭时间,地点在 65J 课室

你们把音乐复制在 USB 或光盘上了吗? 

 

唱歌和舞蹈表演的同学: 你们必须在 USB 上清楚地标上表演者名字,歌名以及

音乐的名字。 

演奏音乐的的同学:  请告诉你们级的负责老师你们演奏什么乐器以及乐名。要

是合奏,把小组的名字交上来。 

道具服装: 你们不必花很多钱,利用自己的想象力,找一些旧物件利用起来。.  

要是你们还没收到试镜入场票,请问Willmington 老师。 

我们学校的才艺大赛需要家长捐些礼品,可以是文具,玩具,书以及礼物卷等等。请

大家把捐献的物品送到办公室前台,感谢大家的支持。

欢迎家长在十二月十一,十二日星期一和星期二早上九点半到一点来观看学生的演出。  The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge 2017 

这周我们收到 530 张 2017 年完成总理阅读挑战的证书。这些证书将会在下周每个年级

的集会里颁发。 在这我们要祝贺 79 位学生,他们连续四年参加这个活动,获得了黄金证书,另外还有

12 位学生连续七年参加,获得了白金证书,这 12 位同学的证书将会在年底颁奖礼上

颁发。 这一年是我们参加总统阅读挑战最成功的一年。祝贺大家。  Kindergarten 2018                                                  

2018 年幼稚园班新生入学招生已经开始了。凡是在 2012 年八月一日到 2013 年七月三

十一日间出生的孩子都可以报名。想给孩子报名的家长需要来我们学校办公室办理手

续。来报名的时候,你们要出示: ‐ 证明孩子出生日期的有关证件  

‐ 在海外出生的孩子要出示护照及签证

‐ 居住证明(比如,市政厅的收费单,煤气费或电费单,银行帐户等)申请表可以以下

校服店消息 

雨衣 

现在我们校服店有雨衣出售。请家长们考虑给孩子买一件,因为安全问题学校不准学

生用雨伞。 

校服店新的开放时间 

- 星期一早上九点到十点 

- 星期四下午两点到两点四十五分 

- 十一月十三日到二十四日,校服店不开门 

- 十二月七日是校服店开门的最后一天 

你们也可以通过校办公室下订单 

请大家耐心等待你们订单的发放,我们的工作都是由家长义工做的。比如,要是你在

星期二下订单,你起码要等到星期五才可以拿到校服。   Walking for the Heart Foundation 

请有兴趣的家长在每周一全校大会后在大门口聚集,参加心脏基金会发起的步行活动。

大家一起步行到运动场。可以把小宝宝带上。 

Saturday Chinese School @ HWPS 

每周六早上九点到十二点在我们学校校址会有中文课。对象是三到十八岁的学生。由

外面的社区团体举办,由有资格的老师任教。学期第一天是二月四日。有兴趣的家庭
