WoodiWild Tree Planting Fundraiser At our school Musical we launched our Woodiwild P&C school fundraiser. This is an excellent initiative with the purpose of re-planting trees on farms across Australia to provide habitats for our threatened wildlife. Our school community has the opportunity to purchase a tree to go in the Great Aussie Schools Forest.

You will receive a unique map reference for your tree and can follow the growth of the micro-forest on Google Maps on the Woodiwild website.

Trees are only $10 each, you and your child can name your tree and watch it grow, and improve local habitat.

$2 from every sale goes to the school P&C.

Head to the WoodiWild website, find the 'school' tab and search for Homebush West Public School. Or follow this link—https://woodiwild.org/homebush-west-public-school/ Security Cameras at School As many of you are aware security cameras have been installed in key locations across the school site, including entry ways, stairways, and gates. All cameras are clearly visible and identified via signage. Schools use CCTV in one of three ways, all of which are considered overt surveillance:

monitoring premises for after-hours security

monitoring premises during the course of the working day for added security

monitoring sick bays in schools. If you have any further questions regarding security cameras, please contact the office.

As part of the reform, a parent web form has been established by Service NSW that will enable parents to tell the department about their specific care needs and to stay up to date with any new developments. The information provided by parents will help the Department of Education to understand your needs, give them insights into where there are gaps in service delivery and help to ensure the extra places are delivered where they are required. We strongly encourage parents to participate and shape government policy in this area. Have you say today at https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/basc

West Sydney Wolves Basketball Workshop for Stage 3 This week our local basketball club, West Sydney Wolves connected with the Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) to run basketball workshops for our Stage 3 students. Damien, a former collegian basketball player from Massachusetts, led our students through a range of exciting and technical basketball drills. Basketball is played by both boys and girls and is a welcoming and inclusive sport that can be played by people of all ages and all abilities. It is a team sport that can develop a child’s teamwork and leadership skills, as well as confidence and self-esteem. Our students thoroughly enjoyed and actively participated in the workshops. If you wish to find out more about registering your child to an out of school basketball program, please go to the website https://wswba.com.au/ Mr Fung

WOODiWiLD Visits Homebush West

On Friday the 13th September, the Managing Director of WoodiWild, Mr Gary Wells visited Homebush West PS. He spoke to students about the benefits of the WoodiWild initiative and he also and held interviews with our school leaders. Our students worked with Mr Wells to make videos about the importance of replanting trees to protect wildlife. At Homebush West Public School, we are committed to sustaining a healthy ecosystem for the future. The school is running a fundraiser that will not only help protect our unique and vulnerable wildlife, it will provide our students with a direct link to their own tree within the Great Aussie Schools' Forest where they will learn about the importance of conserving these threatened species. Our school will raise funds, with $2.00 from each tree going to the P&C. By Stage 3

Summer PSSA Coaches Junior Cricket – Ms Joseph Senior Cricket – Ms Pashley Junior and Girls and Boys Teeball – Ms Pene Senior boys and Girls Softball – Mr Penman Junior Cricket Last Friday we played against a strong Summer Hill Junior Boys’ team. We were able to get 6 wickets including 2 run outs by Harsha. Overall, we had a great good game but sadly we lost. There were some outstanding catches by Nirav and strong wicket keeping by Ayran and Harsha By Nithin Senior Cricket Last Friday was an excellent comeback to the game for senior’s cricket team! We played against an excited Summer Hill team. Despite losing the toss, Homebush West made a strong statement by getting eight magnificent wickets and scoring 59 runs! Akshath dominated with two fantastic catches, Jayaditiya ever so calmly slotted a run out and our bowlers really put on a show! Our fielding was consistently sharp with no ball reaching the boundary past Ahmet! Great wall! Our batting is where we will focus our next training efforts but we will have a great run into the semi-finals if we keep up the improvement each week. Player of the Match goes to Ahmet Kisa for his lightning speed when batting and unbeatable out fielding! We all earned the win today and showed great sportsmanship! Way to go HWPS! Written by The Team Junior and Girls and Boys Teeball On Friday 13th September, the Junior Girls & Boys Tee ball Teams played against the Summer Hill PS at Mason Park. What a game to kick off the recommencement of the Summer PSSA season! In a close and intense game, after 3 innings, both teams walked away with a win with a final score of 23-22 (Junior Girls) and 28-7 (Junior Boys). What a fantastic effort from our Tee Ballers! After only one training session, the teams were able to work effectively as a team and communicating clearly. We received wonderful feedback from the Summer Hill PS Teeball Coach, who complimented us on our communication on the field, our respectful attitude towards others and humbleness when in the lead and winning overall. After a very successful first game, we are hopeful for the season ahead. Well done Junior Girls and Boys!
