Leadership Institute – Inquiry & Innovation Conference Three of our school leaders spoke at the Inquiry and Innovation Conference on Tuesday. Angelina, Youngsun and Wong Wong prepared and delivered speeches on the power of inquiry and innovation and how it has had an impact on their own learning and leadership. They spoke specifically about col-laboration in the co-teaching environment (innovation), their experience of working with the Human Rights commissioner for the United Nations and how an inquisitive mindset will support their transition into the next phase of their schooling. This was a remarkable commitment and opportunity and we are very proud of their authentic, strong advocacy for our school leadership and public education. Leadership Speeches We’ve enjoyed a week of successful leadership speeches. Our Year 5 candidates are to be congratulat-ed for their hard work, preparation and for already demonstrating more maturity, responsibility and initiative. Speeches continue in Week 6 and parents are welcome to attend. We look forward to each student having a voice in the election at the end of next week and anticipate another wonderful year of student leadership excellence in 2019. Creative and Performing Arts Excellence We are very much looking forward to seeing our dedicated choir and dance students perform in the Schools Spectacular next week, the first time our Homebush West PS dance ensemble will participate in this prestigious event. If you don’t have tickets you can catch it on television on 25 November on Chan-nel 7. Best wishes to our fabulous performers and special thanks to Miss Loos, Miss Zuccali, Miss Saad and Miss Willmington who have supported our students in a rigorous rehearsal schedule and signifi-cant behind the scenes work. Master Blasters Light Up Airey Park On Wednesday students in Stage 2 and 3 participated in cricket workshops organised by the Sydney Thunder cricket franchise, supported by senior students from Homebush Boys High School. The workshop included a Master Blaster Game which is a modified T20 match. Through cricket, one can learn the great life values of integrity and respect; it affords opportunities for development of com-munication, leadership and team skills; it embraces individual excellence and flair, while also valuing cooperation and communication within a team environment. All the students enjoyed the work-shops and had so much fun! For more information on how you can get your child involved in cricket in the local community, please go to the following website: https://playcricket.com.au/ Mr Fung

Ms Pashley plays in the Australian Indigenous Football Championships Last week Ms Pashley had the privilege to represent the Eora All Blacks in the Australian Indigenous Football Championships (AIFC)! The team played 10 games over 3 days and fought hard to win the Grand Final 1 - 0 to take home the Plate! Ms Pashley met many new friends from all different places and gained new soccer skills each game. It was such an honour for Ms Pashley to play alongside and against such talented women in sport

We had missed the last few weeks of games due to the weather and were a little rusty at the start with but soon enough we able to get some runs on the board. Croydon Park have been tough opponents in the past and they were proving tough again with a great pitcher and some big hitters but we stuck in there and had a fun day. Although we lost 15 - 7, Viktoria and Angie combined for some quality outs and Layla made some great plays from right field. Chan-tel fielded well all day. Some of the girls are missing our final two games due to School Spectacular so it was a special and somewhat sad day for the team as it was the last time they will all play together. Mr Smith Junior & Senior Cricket There was no game due to a forfeit Ms Pashley and Ms Joseph

Junior Girls T-ball Last Friday, the Junior Girls T-ball Team played a close and exhilarating game against Croydon Park PS. It was so close, with both teams clearly determined to win! Unfortunately, we fell short of a win with a final score of 21-17. After the girls congratulated Croydon Park PS, they walked off the field smiling! Intrigued, I asked the girls how they were feeling and they began reflecting on the game; beginning to tell me and each other the skills they had improved on, useful techniques they noticed by the other team and what we need to do next time to improve. They then started reflecting on our Round 4 game against the same team in Term 1 and I proudly watched as they spoke about how much we had improved since the last game in skill level, fielding, batting technique, communication and overall teamwork! I am so proud of you girls! You demonstrated maturity, resilience and a growth mindset I am hon-oured to be your coach! The message, never give up! Ms Pene Uniform Shop Co-ordinator 2019 Are you looking to get involved with the Homebush West school community? The P&C runs our school's Uniform Shop. It is a vital source of income for Homebush West Public School and means we can contribute to our children’s learning needs by providing funds for class-room resources, play equipment and technology resources. In 2019 the Uniform Shop will need a new Coordinator. This role includes helping to sell uniforms twice a week as well as tallying stock and ordering new stock. All training will be provided and you will be supported by a great team. Please see Sindhu 0413 101 595 or Smruti 0481 828 292 if you are interested in taking on this oppor-tunity by November 30 2018.
