Achievements
• Establishment of strategies to support first year Maori and Pasifika students.
• Tangible mechanisms for enhancing the capacity of the FYE Community of Practice (grants, workshops)
• Clearly defining and setting parameters for the First Year Experience and Retention Coordinator role.
Challenges
• Lack of defined role and responsibilities (and sustainability) of Faculty First Year “Coordinators” and associated distributed leadership potential.
• Size and scope of FYER Coordinator’s role and the associated risk of over-promising and under-achieving!
