Gigi’s is the sister store to Rowena’s on Main. The two stores are located across the street from each other in His-toric Downtown Morristown. Gigi’s is owned and oper-ated by mother and daughter team, Rowena Smith and Regina Kinsler, and managed by Michelle Masengill. The name Gigi originated from Regina’s nick name, given to her by her nieces and nephew. The new shop offers a beautiful selection of lifestyle, bridal and baby gifts, along with wedding and party invitations. The Grand Opening of Gigi’s was celebrated June 2011 with an American Girl Tea Party which was greeted with much success.

A unique feature of the store is “The Registry at Gigi’s”. Since the opening, many have utilized The Registry to fill their bridal, baby, and birthday wishes. The need for the registry was brought to the attention of Rowena and Regina by customers of Rowena’s requesting additional baby and bridal items. Because of limited space, this was a request that the original store was unable to provide its custom-ers. “When the old Southern Shoe Store came available it just seemed to be the perfect fit to meet our customers’ needs,” Rowena said. Through the use of social media, The Registry has found even more space by expanding its selection to internet customers. Family and friends are en-couraged to go online to Gigi’s Facebook page and choose from any of the items selected by registered brides-to-be. This works beautifully for registrants who have family and friends out of town. Gigi’s offers free gift wrapping, and the girls love to call brides to let them know they have gifts ready to pick up.

Gigi’s offers discerning shoppers the opportunity to choose from many exclusive lines. One such offering is Skyros Designs, an exquisite collection of tabletop and decorative accessories from Portugal. This high qual-ity dinnerware is handmade by skilled artisans creating looks from sophisticated and chic to colorful and casu-ally elegant. As useful as it is beautiful, this chip resistant product goes from freezer to oven or microwave and on to the dishwasher. Skyros china is made to endure and be enjoyed for years to come.

Gigi’s is also an authorized dealer of Arthur Court De-signs. Easy to care for, this serve-ware will not tarnish and never needs polishing. This line includes pieces that are designed for both formal and casual table settings. Always striving to bring its customers the most up to date products, Gigi’s proudly offers Arthur Court’s newest pat-terns - French Lily and Antler.

Customers can also find one of the largest selections of baby items in town, including plush toys, books, baby bags, blankets, and baby and children’s clothing up to a size 3T. The newest special delivery is from Vera Brad-ley Baby. Shoppers can choose from Vera’s collection of Tutti Fruity and Lilly Bell layette sets, blankets, lovies, hooded towels, and baby bags.

Another select line to explore at Gigi’s is American Girl ~ the brand that girls love and mothers trust. This line includes award winning books and crafts which provide hours of wholesome fun and engaged learning. A large selection of clothing for the American Girl Doll, Ameri-can Girl pets, miniature American Girl Dolls, and much more are also available.

One of Regina’s favorite product lines is Tervis. These tumblers allow each customer to express their individual sense of style with 1000’s of colorful and unique designs. Perfect for Nascar fans, fans of collegiate sports teams, or anyone in between, these virtually unbreakable tum-blers keep drinks cold or hot, reduce condensation, have a lifetime guarantee, and are dishwasher safe. Custom specialty orders are available.

Another product line sold exclusively at Gigi’s is Hobo ~ The Original. Hobo is known for its handcrafted leather goods ranging from totes and shoulder bags to wallets and accessories. They come in a variety of colors, leath-ers and prints.

While many of the product lines sold at Gigi’s are in-deed exclusive, their commitment to customer service is decidedly not. The same personal attention customers have grown to appreciate at Rowena’s extends to Gigi’s, as well. Regina states, “Our primary goal is to make each customer feel special. Hopefully, we can make the gift giv-ing experience as enjoyable for the giver as it is the recipi-ent. “ Rowena and Regina invite everyone to visit both shops for a unique shopping experience.

Community need and demand are two of the top factors Tuscu-lum College considers in developing new academic programs, such as the master of business administration (MBA) degree program or the undergraduate psychology program with a be-havioral health concentration. How does the college ascertain those community needs and demands? An important way Tusculum gets this type of input for the Lakeway region is through the Morristown President’s Advisory Council. The council is a group of select individuals whose mission is to assist the college with identifying opportu-nities for graduate preparation, professional development, ca-reer development/internships, community impact and opening doors. Membership of the President’s Advisory Council is a mix of alumni from the college’s residential and Graduate and Pro-fessional Studies program for working adults as well as friends of the college.“As Tusculum continues to enhance its academic programs to provide greater educational opportunities, members of the President’s Advisory Council provide valuable input regarding educational needs of the area served by the College, as well as identify opportunities to develop pathways for career prepara-tion, personal development and civic engagement,” said Susan D. Crum ’91, assistant vice president of institutional advance-ment. “We are fortunate to have a cross-section of individuals from various sectors willing to serve on the council, including business, education and criminal justice professionals.”The members of the Morristown President’s Advisory Council include Peggy Brewer ’89, Bill Brittain, Michael R. Davidson ’06, Betty Elkins ’90, Tony Farmer, Alan C. Hartman, Robert Lydick, Dale Lynch, Cathy McClellan, Robert B. Neill ’06, Roger D. Overholt ’06 ’08, Walter E. Plankenhorn ’63, Mitch Robinson ’04, Kay Senter, Teal Simpson ’98 ’99, Joan Taylor ’02, Joan Weesner ’51, Mark Wisecarver ’96 and Daniel Young ’87.Several of the members of the council began their association with Tusculum as students, whether in the residential program or the program for working adults. The flexible class schedules offered through that program were accommodating to busy schedules, an attractive feature to Brewer, Robinson and Taylor as they sought degrees.Robinson, president of Coffman Oil Company, attended class-es on the Greeneville campus and at the Gray site to earn a master’s degree in organizational management. He found the Tusculum program addressed all the areas of business that he needed, noting that while he had spent his entire career in business, there were some facets that he needed to master to become a more well-rounded professional.Taylor, an insurance agent, found Tusculum to be the place where she was able to accomplish her goal of getting a degree without having to quit her job, an opportunity that she could only take advantage of because of the evening course format.

Brewer, likewise, found that the schedule required a commit-ment of time outside of class for study, research and class group projects. But, that extra effort resulted in an “invaluable, quality education” that resulted in an immediate promotion for her upon graduation.Tusculum’s mission to develop good citizens who will serve their communities can be seen in the lives of these council members, and in what they do for the college and the com-munity. Members of the council have been involved in a variety of roles for Tusculum, whether volunteering to help with activi-ties such as alumni events and student move-in or serving on committees.“While at Tusculum, civic work and responsibility were empha-sized as part of my education,” Brewer said. Shortly, after gradu-ating, she began volunteering to serve on the Alumni Executive Board. She has served as president of the Alumni Association and continues to serve on the board. She is also an active volun-teer for events such as homecoming activities, as well as work-ing with various nonprofit groups in Hamblen County.Robinson served on the committee that recommended adding the MBA program to Tusculum’s offerings. “Adjusting to the current needs of business is a benefit of Tusculum’s program and will help the college continue to grow,” he said. Continu-ing education, he also noted, is important for adults in helping round out their qualifications with not only work experience but also a degree. “All the advantages a person can have are important because of the competitive job market for good po-sitions.” Tusculum is also providing an important resource to Morristown and the Lakeway region by offering a variety of pro-grams in the fields of business, education and psychology in a schedule and curriculum that does allow people to continue working and fulfilling their family responsibilities, Taylor said. While a degree in important to prepare individuals for a pro-motion or a new career, she added, the college also prepares its graduates for something just as important – their responsi-bilities to the community outside the workforce by focusing on civic responsibility and requiring service projects as part of the requirements for graduation.Council members say that the college is moving progressively for the future under the leadership of President Dr. Nancy B. Moody, particularly with the addition of new academic pro-grams such as nursing, criminal justice and the MBA; new agreements with many other colleges and universities that fa-cilitate entrance by Tusculum graduates into advanced-degree programs, and the construction of new facilities, such as the planned science and math building.“For any student young or old, Tusculum College is a great choice,” said Taylor. “I am so proud to say, I am a graduate of Tusculum College.”

As healthcare in the United States evolves, we hear a lot of talk about having a primary care provider. Many people think that if they’re healthy, there’s no reason to have a primary care provider (PCP). But a main or primary doctor can serve as a trusted medi-cal advisor and healer as he or she cares for your health over a long period of time – even a lifetime.

Your PCP’s role is to:• Identify and treat common medical conditions• Provide preventive care and teach healthy lifestyle, nutrition and physical activity choices• Determine the urgency of your medical problems and make referrals to medical specialists when nec-essary

Choosing a PCP may be the most important step in proactively caring for your health. Your PCP is your main monitor and provider of routine care. He or she provides services such as: an annual physi-cal; immunizations; routine tests needed at various stages of life; and overall, monitors your health and diagnoses and treats medical problems that arise. If needed, your PCP can refer you to a specialist if a serious illness requiring special management is necessary.

Your PCP has in-depth knowledge about your health history, past injuries or illnesses, allergies, and risk factors for certain diseases etc.; therefore, if you were to develop a serious condition, he or she will be able to serve as the main facilitator for other phy-sicians who may then be involved in your care.

There are several different types of PCPs:• Family practitioners – doctors who have completed a family practice residency and are board certified or board eligible in this specialty. Their scope of care includes children and adults of all ages and may in-clude obstetrics and minor surgery.

• Pediatricians – doctors who have completed a pediatric residency and are board certified or board eligible in this specialty. The scope of their practice includes the care of newborns, infants, children and adolescents.

• Internists – doctors who have completed a resi-dency in internal medicine and are board certified or board eligible in this specialty. The scope of their practice includes the care of adults of all ages for many different medical problems.

• Nurse practitioners (NP) and physician assis-tants (PA) – practitioners who go through a different training and certification process than doctors. They may be your key contact in some practices.

Because your PCP is often involved in your care for a long time, it’s important to select someone with whom you will work well.

If you’ve been putting off finding a PCP who can oversee all of your medical needs, make it a goal this year. Be sure to ask friends, neighbors, or relatives for referrals to PCPs or East Tennessee Health Cen-ter has eight PCPs from which you can choose.

East Tennessee Health Center is a multi-specialty group offering a wide range of services including family practice and internal medicine, urology and general and cosmetic surgery. Ten providers see pa-tients at six practices conveniently located through-out Morristown.

To learn more about a physician, visit EastTennesseeHealthCenter.com. For questions or more information to see if a provider is right for you, please call any of the East Tennes-see Health Center offices. All East Tennessee Health Center providers are accepting new patients.

Q: Acupuncture?Acupuncture is a safe and effective form of Tradi-tional Chinese Medicine (TCM), dating back over thousands of years. Acupuncture is a relatively painless, natural technique, consisting of the gen-tle insertion and stimulation of sterile, individually packaged, disposable, small, hair-width needles placed at precise strategic points on the body. Acupuncture has been found to be an extremely beneficial treatment for a wide range of condi-tions such as pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, asthma, allergies, hypertension, digestive disor-ders, headaches, migraines, hormonal imbalanc-es, weak immune systems, insomnia, and a host of other symptoms and conditions. TCM is based on the belief that what happens to one part of the body affects every other part of the body. Every patient is an individual and individual responses vary. Some respond very quickly after one or two treatments, while others may require more. Traditional Chinese Acupuncture was orig-inally designed to treat patients 2 – 3 times per week to achieve optimal results. The more acute a condition is, the less treatment is required and the more chronic a condition, the more treatments will be required. Treatments are accumulative and build upon each other for maximum results, therefore giving the understanding that the more frequent the treatment, the quicker the results. Almost everyone can benefit from Acupunc-ture. Even when there are not symptoms, Acu-puncture can help maintain a healthy immune system and work to prevent illness from occur-ring and reoccurring.

Q: Bio-Communication Scan? The bio-communication scan is an exchange of information between a computer and your body; it’s like the computer is asking questions and your body is answering them. It represents a major breakthrough in gathering information about health. This technology sends your body an energetic pulse or signature called a Virtual Stimulus Item (VSI). VSI’s are representative of physical items including nutritional supplements, drugs, body functions, and organs. As each VSI is sent, your body’s response is measured and recorded. The way your body responds is energetic; it’s called galvanic skin response or GSR and measures complex GSR patterns and determines shifts in your energetic pos-ture. These shifts, either negative or positive, identify what are called biological preferences. The interface between your body and our bio-communication software is the FDA registered hand cradle. The scan takes a few minutes to complete and is safe for adults and children. If you are always feeling tired, struggling to maintain a healthy weight or easily getting sick; this technology offers you a non-invasive way to determine your nutritional needs enhancing your quality of life.

Q: Chiropractic Adjustment? Chiropractic adjustment is a procedure in which trained specialists (Doctor of Chiropractic) use their hands or a small instrument to apply a con-trolled, sudden force to a spinal joint. The goal of a chiropractic adjustment, also known as a spinal manipulation, is to correct structural alignment and improve your body’s physical function resulting in decrease of inflammation and pain.Chiropractic is so effective because it helps individ-uals experiencing high levels of stress and assists in helping maintain joint flexibility which is more and more challenging as we age. Dr. Kirk utilizes multiple adjusting techniques al-lowing each individual’s condition/symptoms to be properly treated.

Q: Spinal Decompression Therapy DTS is a leading, non-surgical alternative that gently decompresses the spine in a safe and controlled manner to greatly increase critical circula-tion to the discs and joints. A safe, comfortable and a potentially long-term solution to your pain, the clinical results of this type of therapy have been effective in over 85% of patients treated. This comprehensive treatment which is effective for disc-related syndromes of the lumbar and cervical spine along with carpal tunnel symptoms, has shown a very high rate of success for most back and neck pain sufferers.

Q: Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork? There’s no denying the power of bodywork. Regardless of the adjectives we assign to it (pampering, rejuvenating, therapeutic) or the reasons we seek it out (a luxurious treat, stress relief, pain management) massage therapy can be a powerful ally in your healthcare regimen. Getting a massage can do you a world of good and getting massage frequently can do even more. Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress related. And perhaps nothing ages us fast-er, internally and externally, than high stress. While eliminating anxiety and pressure altogether in this fast-paced world may be idealistic, mas-sage can, without a doubt, help manage stress. This translates into: decreased anxiety, enhanced sleep quality, greater energy, improved concentration, increased circulation and reduced fatigue. The emotional balance bodywork provides can often be just as vital and valuable as the more tangible physical benefits. Additional benefits of receiving massage or bodywork treatments include the alleviation of back and neck pain including improved range of motion; enhanced immunity by stimulating lymph flow, improvement in the condi-tion of the body’s largest organ-the skin, increased joint flexibility, tissue regeneration, reduced scar tissue and stretch marks, increased circula-tion, reduced spasms and cramping, release of endorphins-amino acids that work as the body’s natural painkiller and many arthritis suffers note fewer aches and less stiffness as well as individuals experiencing high blood pressure often see a decrease. Taking part in this form of regularly scheduled self-care can play a huge part in how healthy you’ll be and how youthful you’ll remain with each passing year.

Christi Glover (Morristown, TN)“My life has forever changed because of AdvoCare. Not only because I have lost weight but because it has given me the opportunity to dream again...To attain an income otherwise unattain-able outside of AdvoCare.

I cannot imagine a better op-portunity out there with the unpaid endorsers we have such as Jason Whitten, Drew Brees and hundreds of oth-er athletes. To also be a part of a company with the Scien-tific and Medical Advisory Board and one of our Doctors being the Father of Intravenous feeding it just doesn’t get any better.

Our Pharmaceutical grade products will help anyone reach their desired goals if it is weight loss, energy, well-ness or to perform at the top of their game.

I am thankful to God for all the blessings and friend-ships this company has given us. I look forward to serv-ing our community in a great way.”

Tiffany Robbins (Morristown, TN)“After the birth of my 2nd child I was exhaust-ed all the time. A friend introduced me to Advocare’s 24 Day challenge & I was imme-diately impressed with the amount of energy I had & how good my body felt. Since I have began using Advocare products, I have lost 10lbs & several inches. I was so impressed with the products & knew that I would be us-ing them forever. I am now selling them and have became an AdvoCare Advisor!”

Sabrina Long (Morristown, TN)“I started my journey in a size 18 pants, 236 lbs and blah. I used to drink at least 3 sodas a day and a huge energy drink to get me thru the day plus another energy drink that evening to stay awake. I slept maybe 4 hours per day, if that. On day 19, I’ve lost 9 lbs, now wearing a size 16 in jeans and do not drink any energy drinks, ex-cept AdvoCare’s Spark. My soda intake is rare/nonexistent.”
