Gigi’s is the sister store to Rowena’s on Main. The two stores are located across the street from each other in His-toric Downtown Morristown. Gigi’s is owned and oper-ated by mother and daughter team, Rowena Smith and Regina Kinsler, and managed by Michelle Masengill. The name Gigi originated from Regina’s nick name, given to her by her nieces and nephew. The new shop offers a beautiful selection of lifestyle, bridal and baby gifts, along with wedding and party invitations. The Grand Opening of Gigi’s was celebrated June 2011 with an American Girl Tea Party which was greeted with much success.

A unique feature of the store is “The Registry at Gigi’s”. Since the opening, many have utilized The Registry to fill their bridal, baby, and birthday wishes. The need for the registry was brought to the attention of Rowena and Regina by customers of Rowena’s requesting additional baby and bridal items. Because of limited space, this was a request that the original store was unable to provide its custom-ers. “When the old Southern Shoe Store came available it just seemed to be the perfect fit to meet our customers’ needs,” Rowena said. Through the use of social media, The Registry has found even more space by expanding its selection to internet customers. Family and friends are en-couraged to go online to Gigi’s Facebook page and choose from any of the items selected by registered brides-to-be. This works beautifully for registrants who have family and friends out of town. Gigi’s offers free gift wrapping, and the girls love to call brides to let them know they have gifts ready to pick up.

Gigi’s offers discerning shoppers the opportunity to choose from many exclusive lines. One such offering is Skyros Designs, an exquisite collection of tabletop and decorative accessories from Portugal. This high qual-ity dinnerware is handmade by skilled artisans creating looks from sophisticated and chic to colorful and casu-ally elegant. As useful as it is beautiful, this chip resistant product goes from freezer to oven or microwave and on to the dishwasher. Skyros china is made to endure and be enjoyed for years to come.

Guitar Class For Beginners: A new Beginning Guitar class will start at Rose Center on Saturday, April 27. The group class meets from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm each Satur-day for ten weeks. Beginning Guitar will cover all the basics to lead into any style of playing. This class is geared towards those who have never picked up a guitar or those students inter-ested in basic chords, strums, notation reading, and basic music reading will be taught as well as physical technique. Instructor Craig Carroll is an international touring concert performer for over 20 years. Mr. Caroll has taught national and international master classes, helping guitar players of all levels, skills and abilities. The fee is $50 for the 10-week course. Students must provide their own guitar and will purchase a chord chart and music book from the instructor at a cost of $15. Group size is limited to ten students. Ballroom Dancing: Beginner group classes meet on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Pre registration is required; when enough students register, a new session will start. The fee for the class is $10 per class for individuals and $15 per couple. Students will move to the Inter-mediate Class at 7:15 pm and the Advanced Class at 8 pm. The beginner class will focus on the six social dances: waltz, tango, foxtrot, rumba, cha cha and swing. To register or for more information, call instructor Marie Connolly at 865.973.6964.

Clogging: Betty Lambert is continuing her popular clogging classes for children. Lambert teaches beginning to advanced steps to ages 4 and up. Classes meet on Tuesdays throughout the school year. The beginners’ class meets from 3:30 to 4 p.m., with more advanced classes following. The fee is $20 per month with a discount for multiple students per family.

Clogging For Adults: Betty Lambert is offering clogging classes for adults on Tues-days at 6 p.m. Get some great exercise while learning this fun dance form. The fee is $20 per month. Special shoes are not required.

Line Dancing: Give this popular dance form a try – or learn some new steps in this fun class. Glenda Hardin teaches line dancing in Prater Hall at Rose Center in Morristown every Monday evening. This is a great dance form for individuals who enjoy dancing but don’t have a partner. Intermediate students meet starting at 6 PM; Beginning class starts at 7:15 PM. The fee is $5 per person per class. Students are welcome to join at any time.

TAI CHI: Tai Chi is designed to restore and maintain a sense of total wellness. If practiced regularly, this gentle art of stretching and turning has been shown to offer great benefits physi-cally and mentally. Tai Chi is sometimes described as meditation in motion. In our age of constant stress, come see what Tai Chi can do for you. There are two new Beginning Tai Chi classes: Wednesdays from 10:30 am to 12 pm; and Thursdays from 6 to 7:30 pm. For those who have already taken a beginning class, there are continuing classes offered on Mondays from 6 to 7:30 pm, Wednesdays from 9 to 10:30 am and Saturdays from 9 to 10:30 am. There is a $20 non-refundable registration fee. The charge is $30 per month.

YOGA: Kim Brown teaches this course in Hatha Yoga for Beginners, with emphasis on alignment and safety. During this class you will learn the basics, core strength and be kind to your body. The classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:45 AM. The fee per class is $8 or $40 per month. New students may begin at any time.

Community need and demand are two of the top factors Tuscu-lum College considers in developing new academic programs, such as the master of business administration (MBA) degree program or the undergraduate psychology program with a be-havioral health concentration.How does the college ascertain those community needs and demands? An important way Tusculum gets this type of input for the Lakeway region is through the Morristown President’s Advisory Council. The council is a group of select individuals whose mission is to assist the college with identifying opportu-nities for graduate preparation, professional development, ca-reer development/internships, community impact and opening doors. Membership of the President’s Advisory Council is a mix of alumni from the college’s residential and Graduate and Pro-fessional Studies program for working adults as well as friends of the college.“As Tusculum continues to enhance its academic programs to provide greater educational opportunities, members of the President’s Advisory Council provide valuable input regarding educational needs of the area served by the College, as well as identify opportunities to develop pathways for career prepara-tion, personal development and civic engagement,” said Susan D. Crum ’91, assistant vice president of institutional advance-ment. “We are fortunate to have a cross-section of individuals from various sectors willing to serve on the council, including business, education and criminal justice professionals.”The members of the Morristown President’s Advisory Council include Peggy Brewer ’89, Bill Brittain, Michael R. Davidson ’06, Betty Elkins ’90, Tony Farmer, Alan C. Hartman, Robert Lydick, Dale Lynch, Cathy McClellan, Robert B. Neill ’06, Roger D. Overholt ’06 ’08, Walter E. Plankenhorn ’63, Mitch Robinson ’04, Kay Senter, Teal Simpson ’98 ’99, Joan Taylor ’02, Joan Weesner ’51, Mark Wisecarver ’96 and Daniel Young ’87.Several of the members of the council began their association with Tusculum as students, whether in the residential program or the program for working adults. The flexible class schedules offered through that program were accommodating to busy schedules, an attractive feature to Brewer, Robinson and Taylor as they sought degrees.Robinson, president of Coffman Oil Company, attended class-es on the Greeneville campus and at the Gray site to earn a master’s degree in organizational management. He found the Tusculum program addressed all the areas of business that he needed, noting that while he had spent his entire career in business, there were some facets that he needed to master to become a more well-rounded professional.Taylor, an insurance agent, found Tusculum to be the place where she was able to accomplish her goal of getting a degree without having to quit her job, an opportunity that she could only take advantage of because of the evening course format.

Brewer, likewise, found that the schedule required a commit-ment of time outside of class for study, research and class group projects. But, that extra effort resulted in an “invaluable, quality education” that resulted in an immediate promotion for her upon graduation.Tusculum’s mission to develop good citizens who will serve their communities can be seen in the lives of these council members, and in what they do for the college and the com-munity. Members of the council have been involved in a variety of roles for Tusculum, whether volunteering to help with activi-ties such as alumni events and student move-in or serving on committees.“While at Tusculum, civic work and responsibility were empha-sized as part of my education,” Brewer said. Shortly, after gradu-ating, she began volunteering to serve on the Alumni Executive Board. She has served as president of the Alumni Association and continues to serve on the board. She is also an active volun-teer for events such as homecoming activities, as well as work-ing with various nonprofit groups in Hamblen County.Robinson served on the committee that recommended adding the MBA program to Tusculum’s offerings. “Adjusting to the current needs of business is a benefit of Tusculum’s program and will help the college continue to grow,” he said. Continu-ing education, he also noted, is important for adults in helping round out their qualifications with not only work experience but also a degree. “All the advantages a person can have are important because of the competitive job market for good po-sitions.” Tusculum is also providing an important resource to Morristown and the Lakeway region by offering a variety of pro-grams in the fields of business, education and psychology in a schedule and curriculum that does allow people to continue working and fulfilling their family responsibilities, Taylor said.While a degree in important to prepare individuals for a pro-motion or a new career, she added, the college also prepares its graduates for something just as important – their responsi-bilities to the community outside the workforce by focusing on civic responsibility and requiring service projects as part of the requirements for graduation.Council members say that the college is moving progressively for the future under the leadership of President Dr. Nancy B. Moody, particularly with the addition of new academic pro-grams such as nursing, criminal justice and the MBA; new agreements with many other colleges and universities that fa-cilitate entrance by Tusculum graduates into advanced-degree programs, and the construction of new facilities, such as the planned science and math building.“For any student young or old, Tusculum College is a great choice,” said Taylor. “I am so proud to say, I am a graduate of Tusculum College.”

Tusculum enhances its academic programs The Old Oak Festival

is returning to the Tusculum College campus April 19-21The arts and music festival will span three days and will feature something for everyone,

including music, art, theater and creative writing, as well as gallery and museum exhibits on the campus of Tusculum College, located at 60 Shiloh Road, Greeneville, Tennessee.

There is no fee to attend the festival. Art vendor hours: Friday from noon until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 am-5 pm. Service animals are welcome; however, no pets allowed.

Coolers and alcohol are also prohibited during the festival.

Leon is a natural at customer ser-vice. His desire to accommodate our customers has made him an asset and a valued employee.

Anthony Farmer is the company’s face to many of our custom-ers as he makes our deliveries to the cus-tomers. He also as-sist in the warehouse and takes care of the

landscaping. Anthony is customer friendly and conscientious in his responsibilities.

Becky Wampler is the office manager. Becky assist in sales throughout the store and is very knowl-edgeable about all of our products.

Last but not least, Dana Wampler is our store manager. Dana has been in the build-ing industry for 40 years and has been with Hardwood Spe-

Muffin2 cup all-purpose flour3/4 cup granulated sugar2 teaspoons baking powder1/2 teaspoon salt1 cup whole milk1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:Preheat over to 350F. Grease muffin tin or line with muffin liners.In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese mixture until smooth. Set aside.In a big bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Set aside.Whisk together milk, melted butter, vanilla extract and egg until incorporated.Mix milk mixture into flour mixture. Fold together until just combined. Spoon the batter into the prepared tins, filling them no more than 1/2 full.Scatter a few pieces of strawberry on top of each one.Top with tsp of cream cheese mixture, tsp muffin batter, a few pieces of strawberry.Bake muffins for 25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.Let the muffins cool in the pan for 10 minutes.

As healthcare in the United States evolves, we hear a lot of talk about having a primary care provider. Many people think that if they’re healthy, there’s no reason to have a primary care provider (PCP). But a main or primary doctor can serve as a trusted medi-cal advisor and healer as he or she cares for your health over a long period of time – even a lifetime.

Your PCP’s role is to:• Identify and treat common medical conditions• Provide preventive care and teach healthy lifestyle, nutrition and physical activity choices• Determine the urgency of your medical problems and make referrals to medical specialists when nec-essary

Choosing a PCP may be the most important step in proactively caring for your health. Your PCP is your main monitor and provider of routine care. He or she provides services such as: an annual physi-cal; immunizations; routine tests needed at various stages of life; and overall, monitors your health and diagnoses and treats medical problems that arise. If needed, your PCP can refer you to a specialist if a serious illness requiring special management is necessary.

Your PCP has in-depth knowledge about your health history, past injuries or illnesses, allergies, and risk factors for certain diseases etc.; therefore, if you were to develop a serious condition, he or she will be able to serve as the main facilitator for other phy-sicians who may then be involved in your care.

There are several different types of PCPs:• Family practitioners – doctors who have completed a family practice residency and are board certified or board eligible in this specialty. Their scope of care includes children and adults of all ages and may in-clude obstetrics and minor surgery.

• Pediatricians – doctors who have completed a pediatric residency and are board certified or board eligible in this specialty. The scope of their practice includes the care of newborns, infants, children and adolescents.

• Internists – doctors who have completed a resi-dency in internal medicine and are board certified or board eligible in this specialty. The scope of their practice includes the care of adults of all ages for many different medical problems.

• Nurse practitioners (NP) and physician assis-tants (PA) – practitioners who go through a different training and certification process than doctors. They may be your key contact in some practices.

Because your PCP is often involved in your care for a long time, it’s important to select someone with whom you will work well.

If you’ve been putting off finding a PCP who can oversee all of your medical needs, make it a goal this year. Be sure to ask friends, neighbors, or relatives for referrals to PCPs or East Tennessee Health Cen-ter has eight PCPs from which you can choose.
