High-school sweethearts, Gerald and Donna Wolfe have called Morristown “home” for most of their lives, and after twenty-three years of marriage, they still act like high-school sweet-hearts. “We met when we were both students at East High School”, Gerald says, “and Donna used to come to me for advice about anybody she would date. My advice was always the same… dump them. Thankfully, she finally took my advice, and the rest is history!”

Gerald and Donna have three children, Ben (17), Av-ery (14), and Casey (7). Ben is a junior at West High School, Avery is in his last year at West View Middle, and Casey is in the first grade at Manley Elementary. “Our children are our life”, Donna says with a grin. “We are so blessed to have three great kids, and they are the joy of our lives”. All three of the children are very much involved in activities, both inside and out-side of their schools.

Avery is an accomplished cross-country runner on the West View team, having placed in the top five in many races during this year’s season. The team has also gone to the State Finals the last two years in a row. Ben is involved with West High’s choir, as well as being known around the school as an accomplished dancer. He and his fellow “break dancers” have won the West High Talent Show for the last two years. He is also on the West High Forensics Team. “We call Casey “little Miss Gymnast”. She loves to tumble and roll.”, says Donna. She is also an avid reader, and a top speller. “She’s very smart”, Donna says. “We don’t know where that trait came from, but we’re very happy she has it!”, she adds with a laugh.

The Wolfes are active members of First Baptist Church, where Donna sings in the Choir. “We love our church”, Donna says. “With Gerald being on the road so much, our church family is very important to us.” Donna also assists with the Youth Choir at First Baptist, and is a volunteer in the annual Vacation Bible School. “There’s more to being a church member than just being there on Sunday morning and putting money in the offering plate. You’ve got to get in there and be involved, and try to make a difference. That’s what ministry is all about”, says Donna.

Gerald’s travel schedule with his Gospel group, Great-er Vision, keeps him on the road almost two hundred days every year. Gerald founded the group in 1990, and although most of his neighbors don’t know it, over the last nineteen years, Greater Vision has become the most-awarded trio in Gospel Music history. “I love what I do, and to have the opportunity to travel all over the world and see the impact the Gospel mes-sage, through music, can have on people’s lives is very special… and very humbling”, Gerald says. “I always knew this was what I would do, and I’ve been traveling ever since my Senior-year in high school. I can’t imag-ine doing anything else… not to mention the fact that I don’t know how to do anything else!

I’ve been blessed to travel in 46 states and ten foreign countries. Gerald also serves on the Board of Direc-tors for the National Quartet Convention, which is the largest annual Christian music event in the world, hosting close to 60,000 attendees this year in Louis-ville, Kentucky. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Southern Gospel Music Association, headquartered at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge. “I used to do a lot of studio production work for other Chris-tian Music Artists, until we began having children. Now I only do two or three projects every year for Artists other than Greater Vision.

These days, I try to be at home as much as possible, so I don’t miss too many of our kids’ activities. It’s very im-portant to Donna and me that we’re always available to our kids, and our parents were great examples to us of what good parents should be. Growing up here in Morristown, I never dreamed I would have the life and family I’ve been blessed with. I certainly don’t deserve to have had the opportunities I’ve had, and the influ-ences of the people I’ve been around, including my parents, Donna, and my church family, have certainly helped me to stay grounded and focused on what is most important.

Someone is always telling us they don’t see how we do what we do, being separated so much, but we look at it differently. The amount of time we have isn’t nearly as important as what we do with it. We choose not to count our time apart as a sacrifice, but rather as an opportunity to accomplish something of eternal value.

Then, when we’re together, it’s awesome! When we think about other people from this area that are serving overseas right now, in the military… away from their families for as much as a year at a time… it changes the definition of the word “sacrifice” in our minds. They are the ones who are doing the real sacrificing, so we can enjoy the time we have together here. They are our heroes… all of them.”

December is “family month” for the Wolfes, since it’s the only time Gerald is home for an extended peri-od of time. “We made the decision when we start-ed Greater Vision that we would stay off the road in December, and it’s one of the best decisions we ever made”, says Gerald. As December approaches every year, the Wolfe house is transformed into a Christmas “wonderland”, with decorations everywhere you look. “We built this house for Christmas”, says Donna. “We intentionally put outlets in specific places to make our house “Christmas friendly”.” That intention is certainly noticeable when you walk through the front door. You immediately notice the curved staircase, draped with lighted garland. The balcony banister railing gets the same treatment in the open second-floor gallery area. Other, very noticeable, details in the house are the trees… thirteen of them this year, to be exact.

There are Christmas trees everywhere! Each one has a different theme, depending on the room they are in. From the formal Christmas trees in the Foyer and Liv-ing Room, to the “fruit tree” in the Kitchen, it’s obvious someone has an eye for decorating. “That someone would be Donna”, Gerald says with a smile. “She loves to decorate, and she does a fantastic job. She actually started this year in late September, because of the kids’ school and activities schedules. She works on it when she finds the time, and by the end of the first week in November, it was all finished… just in time for a pre-Thanksgiving Open House.” It’s really something to see. There is a themed Christmas tree in just about every room in the house, along with other decorations to catch the eye. Gerald says “She knows what she’s doing, and she does it just right. I think she could start her own business as a Christmas decorator, but she says decorating her house is a labor of love… and it shows. I would have to say she’s somewhat of a super-

Mom…she’s able to be everywhere, all the time, and she never seems to sit down. She sacrifices a great deal of normalcy to be married to me, and, as far as I’m concerned, she’s the perfect wife and mother.”

Just because Gerald is off the road in December, doesn’t mean the family is. “We love to travel, and so does Gerald”, says Donna, “and December is a great time to make memories in some neat places.” One of those memory-making trips is the Wolfes’ annual trip to Disney World in December. “It’s something we’ve been doing for a long time, and it’s become a family tradi-tion”, Donna says. “There’s nothing like Disney World at Christmas-time.” Other family traditions in December include the family shopping trips. “In the week leading up to Christmas, we are out just about every evening, going from one mall to the next, enjoying the lights, mu-sic, atmosphere, and people-watching”, says Gerald. “It’s cheap entertainment, and great family time”.

A short visit with the Wolfe family is all it takes to re-alize this Morristown family is well grounded in their love for one another, and their faith. “I’ve lived here all my life”, says Gerald, “and there’s no place on earth I would rather live. There’s something special about Morristown, and the people here. I know almost ev-erybody I see around town, and even though there are always new folks moving into town, it doesn’t take long for them to realize there’s something special about this little valley we live in. We love this community, our church, our neighbors, and our friends and family. God did something really special when he made this place, and we are so blessed to call it home. “ MERRY CHRISTMAS!

As we all know, the holidays are filled with many sweets and treats but no matter how much we love them, when it comes to our health, they are our enemy not our friend.

With each passing day, everyone has concerns about their health. We at Kirk & Kirk Health Clinic care about you and want to help you achieve your most optimum level of health. This is why it is so important to encourage you to choose your foods carefully.

Do you know that sugar and refined carbo-hydrates will suppress your immune system, cause degenerative changes and put your body in a state of weakness? Sugar makes vi-ruses stronger and is a major contributor in digestive issues. Wheat and dairy products are two foods that cause inflammatory responses in the body. The holidays always bring many cakes, pies, cookies and candy which contain sugar, wheat and dairy products.

The results of consumption often lead to inflammation, increased lev-els of toxicity, achy joints, headaches, gas & bloating, constipation or diarrhea. It can also cause an increase in already existing pain in the body as well as trigger allergy type symptoms such as an itchy nose, watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose and ears feeling full.

Another important thing to remember is to consume a sufficient amount of water. At minimum, your daily intake should be ½ oz to1oz of water per pound of body weight. Squeezing fresh lemon or lime in your water gives an added bonus of detoxification .

Our gift to you is a natural way to better health and the key is to go light on the sweets, staying with lean meats, consuming lots of green vegetables and keeping the body hydrated. Don’t forget to exercise and get plenty of rest.

From All of Us to All of You,

MERRY CHRISTMAS & We Wish You A Very Healthy New Year!

We offer the most advanced alternative treatments...Let us customize a treatment plan for you!

many years of experience and is pleased to present a new salon and spa initiative to the Morristown area.

“Our staff is all about pampering the client and offering a comfort-able atmosphere specializing in a more direct and personal touch. As

I was thinking about the name of the salon and the direction I wanted it to go, I knew it had to be special. The name had to sound good, look good, but most of all mean something,” Thomas said. “Bella Vita means beautiful life and that is what I want for every-one that comes to our salon.

My desire for our clients is to make the time they spend here a relaxing, en-joyable and, yes, even a fun experience. All Saints’ Episcopal School is happy to announce the upcom-ing publication of its new cookbook, entitled “Saints Alive, Saints Above” in time for Christmas 2009! The Cookbook Committee, chaired by Cindy Selby and Paula Rugel-Gibson, includes Rhonda Krenzer, Renee Siddiqi, Cindi Husk, and Louise Durman, who have all been busy collecting recipes from All Saints’ students, parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends over the past six months.

The finished product contains 457 recipes – everything from tasty appetizers and nourishing soups to a wide variety of main dishes and desserts. The cookbook contains recipes from two former ASES headmasters and two U.S. Senators, and has an entire sec-tion of International Recipes.

The title of the book is taken from the school song, and the theme of the book is the celebration of those things that have been passed down to us by those “saints” who have gone before us. Many con-tributors included anecdotes and stories about their recipes. ASES art teacher, Dot Nosal, supervised each classroom of students in preparing colorful artwork for the divider pages.

The books have hard covers, plastic coil bindings, and may be ordered in advance for $20.00 apiece by mailing a check payable to All Saints’ Episcopal School, 3275 Maple Valley Road, Morristown, TN 37813. The books are expected to ar-rive at the school by December 15 and may be picked up at the front office of ASES subsequent to that date (Please note that the school breaks for Christmas on December 17).

Also on sale are matching navy blue embroidered pocket aprons, for $25 each. The cookbooks and aprons would make wonderful Christmas presents, but will also be avail-able for purchase year-round. For more information, call Cindy Selby at 423-839-0823.

Heart Attack Symptoms and Life Saving AdviceAccording to the American Heart Association, some heart attacks are sudden and intense where no one doubts what’s happening. But most heart attacks start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort. Often people affected aren’t sure what’s wrong and wait too long before getting help. Here are signs that can mean a heart attack is happening:

Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeez-ing, fullness or pain.

Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.

Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.

Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or light-headedness As with men, women’s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. But women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, and back or jaw pain.

Learn the signs, but remember this: Even if you’re not sure it’s a heart attack, have it checked out (tell a doctor about your symptoms). Minutes matter! Fast action can save lives — maybe your own. Don’t wait more than five minutes to call 9-1-1.

Calling 9-1-1 is almost always the fastest way to get life-saving treatment. Emergency medical services (EMS) staff can begin treatment when they arrive — and get you to Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System to receive life-saving procedures. The Heart, Lung and Vascular Center at MHHS is the only Center in our 8 county service area with a Cath Lab with the technology to save your life.
