Your fashion at the moment…Classic and comfortable. I love good basics with pops of colour. Country Road/Trenery, Gap, Banana Republic and Witchery are my favourites. Locally I’ve just discovered Superella in Melvile – so relaxed yet chic. Since I’ve left corporate, I’m over the high heels.

Your latest obsession...A budget for a major home renovation and landscaping! We’ve just bought an old house in an established neighbourhood. It has gorgeous bones and all the space we want but it can definitely do with a revamp! Best beauty findI was introduced to Crabtree & Evelyn via a gift a few years back and I’ve been hooked since. Their 60 second fix for hands (a hand scrub and moisturiser duo) in particular really lives up to its name and has become a decadent necessity. It’s like a spa experience at home. You love Jozi because...Great weather all year round – we really take this for granted, an inherent buzz & hustle unlike anywhere else and as clichéd as it may sound, the people. As a Capetonian living here for over a decade it can’t be argued that Joburgers are friendly, outgoing and social. Your year in three words...A mixed bag. I have some life changing milestones planned for this year – bring it!

d Hello Joburgers!April is always a welcome month on my calendar, with its promise of public holidays and

moments spent together with family savouring the last of the warm weather.

This month we present a restaurant that offers delicious food and a great sense of family, Angelo’s perfect for a visit over the Easter break... make sure to take the kids as there is plenty on offer for them there! And if you need to entertain the kids at home, Cara-Lisa Sham shares her “Rawtella” bunny cupcake recipe with us and our new Decor contributor, Mandy Walker shows you how to plan the perfect Easter Egg hunt.

But if your taste is a little more grown up in nature then take a squiz at our League of Beers column where Rob Heyns explains the art of pairing craft beer and chocolate, the perfect way to spend a day off.

If all that indulgence leads to guilt, we have just the thing, turn to page 34 for info about a new gym, MovementX which offers an array of exciting classes. But if exercise isn’t your thing, merely read through John Lucas’s eating plan and follow his tips on staying lean through the Easter hols.

And because the first of the Autumn chills makes us want to cosy up with a cup of something hot and read a good story, why not take an armchair journey with Kamini, our cover girl who shares her travel foodie adventures with us on page 10. Au revoir!

SILVERSTAR WILD WEST COUNTRY FEST Wild West Country Fest takes you back to the 1880 – 1890’s when the West Rand was a Mining Town and men from afar afield as Canada, Australia, Cornwell and Holland as well as Kimberley and Pilgrims Rest arrived to pitch their tents and stake their claim. It was a wild place! These early rough necks spent their nights in Saloons, Gambling Dens and Beer Halls that were dotted around the diggings. This unique Festival promises a theatrical and thoroughly entertaining event reminiscent of those early pioneering days on the West Rand. Country rock, blue grass and big band entertainment will compliment the captivating mood of this nostalgic environment. Country markets and a mini amusement park for the children are also part of this festive occasion.30 April to 3 May 2015 For more information visit: www.silverstarcasino.co.za or call 011 662 7300.

HOTspotsHello Joburg’s

The Jungle possesses passion, creativity and ingenuity and these three aspects are exactly what will make it a roaring

success.This brand-new modern space is a Joburgers

dream, with a café-style menu, a barrister in the background, a homeware section, a book store and even a florist who will arrange you your very own bunch of blooms. The Jungle, having recently introduced their newest retail concept to South Africa, mid November, is inspired by the culture of street café’s and international retail experiences.

Relax with a butter, jam and emmental baguette and a flat white amidst the casual-cool décor and take in the trendy surroundings. I highly recommend the cheesecake brownie which is freshly baked and oh so moreish. If you’re more of a tea aficionado opt for the TWG tea from Singapore - the Jasmine Queen will keep you company (green tea enhanced with

jasmine flowers). Now that your belly is all warm and fuzzy, get

your wallets ready because The Jungle supplies the loveliest curated and cherry-picked products. Pedersen & Lennard offer Scandinavian style, lightwood and oak furniture, which is simplistic and minimalistic. P.S they make super chic dustbins too! Studio 19 is one of my favourites as she is a Johannesburg based interior designer. Her pieces are exclusive and distinctive and the rose-gold gorilla faced pillowcase is a must-buy! They also stock high-end fashion: Emersen Fry apparel fashion items all the way from New York, slicker than your average Adidas sneakers and Johannesburg-based hat makers, Simon & Mary.

The Jungle - inviting and innovative - we gladly welcome it with open arms!Ground floor, Albans Square, 357 Jan Smuts Avenue, Craighall Park • 011 781 0455T @jungleonline

Welcome to the JungleThere sure is a rumble in the jungle because Jan Smuts Avenue officially has a brand new contemporary retail store and café.

March 11, 2015 marks the official inauguration and rebirth of the iconic

property. A VIP event was held at the hotel in Westcliff to commemorate this important milestone. The event’s guest of honor, His Excellency Mr Bernard William Baker Singapore High Commissioner was joined by some 350 prominent senior government and business figures and members of the travel industry from South Africa and around the world.

Formerly known as The Westcliff, the iconic hillside hotel closed it’s doors to the public in June 2013 for an ambitious reinvention, partially reopening to the public on 1 December 2014. The inauguration marks the completion of the redevelopment.

STREET SOPHISTICATION

As it is currently Fashion Week season not only in South Africa but around the world,

we are looking at the street style on Jozi fashionistas attending fashion shows. We love observing street style looks on fashion-forward individuals. Often, street fashion moves from the ground up: recently we have seen that street styles have influenced designers’ collections. The feel is urban and trendy, the look is relaxed yet stylish. We are seeing a blend of high-fashion elements with everyday items to create a hybrid look. This lends itself to a type of ‘street sophistication’.

Some street trends include: the use of faux furs to add some unexpected glamour to an outfit, touches of lace, sheer fabrics used as overlays and of course, denim denim and more denim. Fashionistas are also playing around with various types of headgear.

MEET ALAN & KRISHEN: They are Joburg’s fashion forward duo. They will bring you front row fashion and the latest in street style every month, keeping you updated on the hottest Jozi trends. T @AlanKrishen

Street stylistas pairing casual elements with touches of high fashion to create the ‘it look’ of the moment.

Creating a hybrid: formal faux fur items paired with slogan

t-shirts - it’s currently all about juxtaposition.

For fashion-forward men, a relaxed look needn’t be boring: here we see designer sneakers paired with headgear to add panache.

GAVIN RAJAH RESORT COLLECTION 2015

Stirred by summer romances and inspired by the fragrant, free-

spirited sentiments of the 70s comes a collection sketched to the strains of Claudine Longet.

Pairing key pieces with the opulence of destination driven properties, the excessive styling of the collection is geared towards export, and this international footprint will include high end retailers across the globe. Think languid poolside lounging in dreamy, floral, feminine prints. Collaborating with Europa Art Shoes, for his showcase at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Joburg 2015, the intricacy in garment construction, paramount to each piece, is accentuated with the artistry of footwear.

The collection is both beautiful and assertive, strong and soft, but always outré femme.

A beautiful new Shimansky Boutique has opened its doors in Nelson Mandela

Square, Sandton. There’s something about diamonds that

captures the imagination like no other stone. It could be their fire, their sparkle, or the hint of romance that accompanies each gem.

A stone so special requires an equally magical setting – and Shimansky Boutique has provided just the platform. The new Shimansky Boutique in Nelson Mandela Square continues on its forerunners’ tradition, creating an inviting space where shoppers can relax and peruse in tranquility.

We were invited to an opulent evening at the launch of the brand new store, which took place on the 25th of February at the Nelson Mandela Square. The space is open and inviting and we were welcomed with champagne and delightful canapés. Mr. Yair Shimansky himself then gave an educated talk about the brand, the new store and his vigor and excitement to be apart of our pulsating city.Shop L57, Nelson Mandela • www.shimansky.com @ShimanskySA
