We use the word con-junction a lot in gram-mar lessons.

A conjunction is used to join words, phrases or clauses in a sen-tence.

E.g. and, but for, or, neither, nor, yet, alt-hough, because, if, un-til, unless, when, where, while, whereas.

Last week’s image was eyelash hairs (we did say the colour was misleading…)

Can you guess what this week’s image is?

Yr 2 Parachutes

Year 2 have been ac-tive experimenters this week, launching their parachute designs from the Year 6 win-dows!

Have you got both of the up-coming FGF dates in your di-ary? The AGM is on Tues 17th October (6:30pm) and the Hallowe’en Disco is next Friday (13th) - more helpers still needed for the disco.

Making our children Safer

This morning I took a group of Year 5 children out to have a look at parkers, drivers and walkers on the way into school.

They were brilliant at seeing and understanding the problems, say-ing things like:

“Some walkers make it harder for cars by crossing where they shouldn’t and standing in incon-venient spaces.”

“People are parking on kerbs and on corners.”

“People park by the bollards.”

“We could get hurt.”

The children also had great ideas about how we can improve things by talking to children and parents.

One of the things we are going to do (helped by some more Year 5 children next week) is to organise a petition to the council to come and improve road markings and signs near school to help people realise what is safe and what isn’t. Look out for us out next Wednes-day and Thursday mornings if you want to support this—the more people the better! If you can’t sign then, there will be a petition at the school office and Fun for Kids will have one too.

You may well have seen me out and about throughout this week taking photographs of the roads around school. Some are shared here: The intention is for everyone to see for themselves how this looks from the outside:

We will also use photographs as extra evidence when we submit out petition to the council.

I have also been talking to the neigh-bourhood police team and the park-ing enforcement team. Both will be visiting in the coming weeks.

Headlice

I am afraid we are still hav-ing cases of headlice re-ported around school- enough to suggest that not everyone has yet taken on board the advice that came out in the information letter a couple of weeks ago. Please read it if you haven’t already and take this seri-ously for the good of your own child and their friends.

Yr 2 Warwick Castle Visit Volcanic Learning

Year 3 have been busy making brilliant volcanoes this week (and using all our brown paint!)

Year 2 went to Warwick Castle last Friday to help support the learning in their topic work. They all had a great time and to see and hear more about it (in the chil-dren’s own words), see the news item on the school website.

Plas Dol-y-Moch is Coventry Local Authority’s outdoor adventure centre and is situated in Snowdonia in Wales. It is a long bus journey but worth every mile! Coventry children have been visiting the centre, gathering memories and expe-riences that will last a life time, for over 50 years and there are no plans for that to change any time soon!

Our Year 6 class went on their own adventure from last Saturday to Wednesday and, like so many before them, came back buzzing with that special sense of achievement and enjoyment that only trips like this give you.

The children were brilliant—they did everything that was asked of them and more and they entirely lived up to the Respect, Responsibility and Resilience values that all visitors to Dol-y-Moch aspire to.

Hopefully the photographs over the next page or so will help give a flavour of the experience, value and fun that they enjoyed.

As well as being extremely proud of the children and their efforts during the trip we should also say a big thank-you to all of the adults that made it happen.

Plas Dol-y-Moch staff are amazing and always impress us with their knowledge positivity, and enthusiasm.

Also Grange Farm staff deserve a huge thank-you. Taking children on a trip like this is a big responsibility and demand-ing in lots of ways. No-one has to do it but every year we have more volunteers than can go and we should feel ex-tremely grateful that this is the case.

And also a massive thank-you to par-ents without whose financial support the trip just couldn’t happen.
