“Lay it all on the road . . . ” What is the most precious thing you own? What is that one thing that defines who you are, that one thing that you would be totally lost without? Your job? Your profession? Is it your work that gives your life meaning? Do you find your identity in what you do as a doc-tor, a lawyer, a manager, a police officer, a health care worker, carpenter, a computer tech? Does your work express what you want to make of your life and your world? So are you willing to lay it all down on the road? Or is it your skill as a writer, a cook, a carpenter, a paint-er? Do you find your life’s satisfaction in what you create? Do you find your joy in expressing what others are unable to ex-press and see their awe and delight at what you are able to communicate in the medium you work in? Or is your greatest joy the pleasure you bring with your beef bourguignon or chili or chocolate chip cookies? Or do you consider yourself blessed to be able to fix what is broken or restore what’s been lost? Will you lay it all down on the road? Or maybe it’s being a loving parent or grandparent; a pa-tient, generous teacher; a successful coach that can make a team out of a bunch of players. Will you lay it all down on the road? Whatever it is that makes you the person you are, whatever gifts you possess that give your life purpose and meaning — will you lay it all down on the road? Would you lay your work, your talents, your love before the “One who comes in the name of the Lord?” There is something noticeably missing in Luke’s version of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday: palm branch-es. Unlike Matthew and Mark’s accounts, Luke makes no men-tion of palms being waved or hosannas being sung. In Luke’s account of Jesus’ entry into the city, the people place along Je-sus’ path their single most important possession: their cloaks. A cloak was the most expensive article of clothing one possessed; most people owned only one that was constantly mended and never discarded. For the poorest of the poor, a cloak was more than an article of clothing: it was their shelter and home. The

holy poor of Luke’s narrative place all that they have at the disposal of the Messi-ah. To be disciples of the Redeemer Jesus is to “lay down” at the service of one another whatever we have and are, to “empty” our-selves (as the Apostle Paul writes in today’s second reading) our comforts and fears and pride in order to become vessels of God’s life and love in our own Jeru-salems, in our own Holy Week journeys.

Dear Parishioners: Holy Week is the most special time of our church year as we walk with Jesus into Jerusalem and into all that would happen there to Him, and to us. These days, the whole week is to be holy. So, read the scripture accounts of Jesus’ pas-sion, and reflect on the Stations of the Cross or just do one of these. Find extra time for quiet prayer. Make a visit to the Blessed Sacrament. Fast a little more. Whatever will best help you to recall the sacredness of these days is a good thing. On Holy Thursday, there is one Mass at 7:00 p.m. at Saints Peter and Paul. All 4 churches will be open for prayer until midnight, symbolizing our “staying awake” with Jesus while He agonized in the garden. On Good Friday, the Liturgies are spread throughout the afternoon: Noon at St. Cecilia, 1:30 p.m. at Holy Family and 3:00 p.m. at St. Felix. For those who might work, there will be Stations of the Cross at 7:00 p.m. at Saints Peter and Paul. Holy Saturday, there will be Blessings of the Easter Foods: 11:30 a.m. at Holy Family and 12 noon at St. Cecilia, St. Felix and Saints Peter and Paul. There are two Easter Vigils: 8:30 p.m. at St. Cecilia where the Paschal Candle for St. Felix will also be lit. The can-dle for Saints Peter and Paul and Holy Family will be lit at 8:30 p.m. Easter Sunday: 8:00 & 11:00 a.m. at St. Felix; 7:30 & 9:15 a.m. at St. Cecilia; 9:00 & 11 a.m. at Holy Family; 7:30 & 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon at Saints Peter and Paul.

Fr. Paul, Fr. Mark and all the parish staffs join me in praying for you this week and hoping that the outpouring of Jesus’ love for the human race evidenced in His passion, will fill you with wonder and peace. God Bless You.

Fr. Bob

Walk through the liturgy with Bishop Barron in his new DVD Series The Mass on Thursday Apr. 11, 7—8:30 PM. You'll be transformed through insights into this most privileged and intimate encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ. Participants in this seven-part series will see (on our beautiful new 72 inch screen) how the Mass brings us out of the fallen world and into the heavenly realm; how it resonates with a call from God and a response from his people, the Church; and, most importantly, how we are intimately joined with the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus through the Holy Eucharist.

Holy Family Parish and the Holy Name Society sponsor a Holy Thursday Church Walk every year. This year we are happy to extend an invitation to all churches in our group. This is a very popular event and visiting our neighboring parishes throughout the diocese is a tradition we hope to continue for years to come. The Holy Name Society sponsors the bus and all seats are usually filled! This year we will leave from Ss. Peter and Paul after the 7:00 Mass on Holy Thursday. The churches we will be visiting are St Catherine in the South Heights, Good Samaritan, Our Lady of Peace, and the four churches in our grouping. We need to know how many people so we're able to accommodate all "walkers". A sign up sheet is available in the back of church or just call the office and give your name.

Due to early publishing deadlines, contribution amounts will be published in next week’s bulletin.
