She is an awkward, 15-year-old girl with few friends who lives far from the centers of power. She struggles with As-perger’s, can be very intense, painfully quiet and speaks in a cool, flat voice, almost blank in its affect. But what she has read about the changes in our earth’s climate and environment has scared her; what she fears and how little she sees being done about the crisis has led her to spark a revolution among her generation with hand-made signs in Swedish: “School Strike for Climate.” Last March 1.4 million school children around the world responded to her call. At her urging, school children and young adults have continued to march and demonstrate, demanding that political leaders respond to the environmental crisis that threatens the planet we all share.
This fall, she traveled from her home in Sweden to New York — by boat, not by plane — to speak before the Unit-ed Nations. She called the nations and peoples of the world accountable for the catastrophic effects of climate change, just as the window for avoiding devastating warming, scientists warn, is almost closed. She’s been sharply criticized in some circles for her stand, dismissed by some as a naive, uninformed teenage girl. And she readily acknowledges that she is not a scientist and avoids the politics that surround issue. But her message at the U.N. was clear: “We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. The eyes of future generations are upon you, and if you choose to fail us, I say we will never forgive you.” And she “lives” her call for change by living an exemplary low-carbon life — abjuring plane travel, eating vegan, denounc-ing consumerism. To millions of teenagers and young adults, Greta Thunberg is their face and voice, a prophet for our good earth. In our time, God continues to raise up men and women like John the Baptist to proclaim God’s word of justice and peace in our broken, divided world. For many young people, Greta Thun-berg is a prophet, however unlikely, who raises her small voice to the cause of climate change, not only speaking her message but living it. God calls every one of us to work of the prophet: to “proclaim” God’s love and mercy in our own Advent times and places.

At. ST. CECILIA an average of 2400 attended over the course of the five weeks. That means 480
for the two weekend Masses or 240 at each Mass. At ST. FELIX an average of 434 attended over the
course of the five weeks. That means an average of 86 per Mass.
At STS. PETER & PAUL an average of 6015 attend-ed over the course of the five weeks. That means

Congrat-ulations to Amarina S., Noah W., Mia M., Alicen M., Elly R., Andrew G., and Brody Q. Your sacri-fice for hungry children all over the world is to be commended. COMING IN JANUARY

A FITTING TRIBUTE TO ST. CECILIA PATRON OF OUR ROCHESTER PARISH
The St. Cecilia Mass on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 5 PM was beautiful. People said: “It was so meaningful as there were people from each church in our grouping who participated in the Mass; and the music was spectacular--fitting for the Patron of Music. It was a beautiful coming together.”
This fits the saying—”Each flower has a pleasant scent, but when the individual flowers are put to-gether, they make a magnificent bouquet with the most heavenly scent.” Great job to all who made this celebration so special.
Dear Parishioners,
Already it’s the Second Sunday of Advent. Ordinarily, December 8, is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, commemorat-ing Mary’s exemption from the stain of original sin. Since Mary, as the Immaculate Conception, is Patroness of the U.S., it gener-ally is a Holy Day of Obligation. This year, however, the feast is moved to Monday, December 9, because this is the Second Sun-day of Advent, which takes precedence even over the Blessed Mother. Since it falls on Monday, it is NOT an obligatory Mass day. We have our regular three Masses – 7:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. This Wednesday evening is the “Light is on For You” when churches will be open from 6:00-9:00 p.m. for the Sacrament of Penance. In our grouping, the priests will be: Fr. Mark at St. Cecilia; Fr. Paul at St. Felix; Fr. Bob at Holy Family; Fr. Paul House-holder and possibly, Fr. Mike Greb, OFM, Cap at Saints Peter and Paul. See below for extra opportunities for the Sacrament of Pen-ance as well. There are 3 special Advent Concerts coming up next weekend: Saturday, December 14 7:00 p.m. Marco Fiorante at Saints Peter and Paul 7:00 p.m. Beaver Valley Choral Society at Holy Family Sunday, December 15 4:00 p.m. Beaver Valley Choral Society at St. Cecilia December 16-23 We’ve added some extra opportunities to our regular schedule for the Sacrament of Penance: Monday, 16th: St. Cecilia at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, 17th: Sts. Peter and Paul at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, 18th: St. Cecilia at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, 19th: St. Felix at 4:00 p.m. Holy Family at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, 21st: Sts. Peter and Paul at 12 noon Holy Family at 3:00 p.m. Monday, 23rd: St. Cecilia at 6:00 p.m. I know how busy and jam-packed these Advent days are. I’ve had 4 Christmas parties in one week. It’s very difficult to find time for Jesus, to feel His presence in prayer. Really, it is. Yet, the closer we feel to Jesus, the happier our Christmas will be. He is the reason for the season, after all. Fr. Bob
