Narrative Structure

✤ The narrative structure in the Documentary Frankenstein is single stranded because it focuses on one topic throughout the programme. The narrative structure is also non-linear because the order of the documentary is not in chronological order, as it goes back and forward in time. It is a closed documentary as everything was covered during the documentary so there was no lose ends.

Camera Work ✤ The camerawork during the Documentary Frankenstein is:In this documentary, it is a widescreen production which

means thatthe codes and conventions of an interview set up are slightly

different. During the interview setup the interviewee is slightly off

centre but not extremely to the left or right as otherwise it wouldn’t look

right. The shots that are used during interview set ups are mainly

close ups. midshots and medium close ups. On this interview set up the background is out of focus which makes the interviewee more

in focus so it attracts the audience to her and not the background, which gives it more of a filmic feel than tv. Also,

the interviews follow the rule of thirds.

There are variety of shots that are used during this documentary such a the over shoulder shot of this trasnscript.

Mise-en-scene

The lighting during the documentary is that artificial but ambient light is used during the interview setups. There is more lighting on the interviewee than the background because this helps to highlight the interviewee out so the audience isn't distracted by the background. When there is a dark background artificial light makes the interviewee stand out. Also, the background of the interviewee s are always

relevant to the topic or what they are talking about.

Editing

✤ The editing process in Frankenstein is that there is a lot of cutaways used so that you cannot hear the interviewer asking questions and so it avoids jump cuts. Other editing techniques is just the most conventional type which is a simple cut.

During this interview setup the camera is nto behind the interviewee when

he is answering the questions as no camera can actually be seen but then it cutaways

to the actual book that he is getting out which is an over the shoulder shot.

Sound

✤ The sound during this documentary is mainly the voiceover which was Male and spoke standard english so it was clear and the audience could easily understand. There is also a song that is called Monster Mash at the credits which relates to the topic of this documentary.

Archive Material

✤ The archive material that was used throughout this documentary was Black and white footage from the orginal, making of the book, Mcjagger at concerts, books painting and photographs. This was used to keep the audience interested in the programme so it doesn’t get un interesting.

Graphics

✤ Graphics used were conventional on the interviews which was the name and relevance. The font was simple and clear so it was easily read; nothing fancy. The title had a graphic design element to it as it was in different fonts and sizes.
