Icebreakers: Persons

• Have students seat each other in alphabetical order

– Gets students to learn each others’ names

• Students interview each other

– Sheets with questions for pairs to ask each other

– Some students share their interviews with the class, introducing their interviewees

Icebreakers: Science

• Brainstorm how to measure the height of the school building with limited equipment

– Gets them working together

– Also helps the teacher see current math and reasoning levels

• Discussion questions pertinent to science

– For example, dogma vs. scientific method – how we know things in science

Documentation Ideas

• Two-pocket folder or another sort that holds work and must remain in the classroom

• A true lab notebook for full inquiry-based labs

• Three-hole punch things and require everything to be placed in a binder

• Use a full, pre-bound lab book for students to do their lab work
