Symposium OverviewClinical evidence is needed to drive the widespread uptake of survivorship research, which in turn, will improve outcomes of cancer patients after they have completed their curative treatment. The burgeoning field of survivorship research is critical for improving the quality of life of survivors across the survivorship care continuum. Yet, research providing evidence-based clinical data to transform care of cancer survivors is limited.

The principle goal of this course is to bring together clinicians and scientists to discuss current trends in survivorship research and interpret its application into clinical practice.

Conference HighlightsOnly full-day statewide conference addressing survivorship research

Presentations of the latest advances in survivorship research with a strong focus on new interventions, and methodology

Sessions on decision-making in fertility preservation, PTSD in cancer survivors, use of a mobile unit to deliver survivorship care, and impact of chronic disabilities on cancer survivors

Highly dynamic interactive breakout sessions to examine and discuss cutting-edge research in diverse areas of survivorship

Renowned faculty of interdisciplinary specialists will present the latest in research and outcomes from a survivorship science perspective

Multiple networking opportunities

Educational Objectives• Provide trends, opportunities, or challenges posed by survivorship science to improve outcomes of long-term cancer survivors

• Assimilate and translate new research findings to improve providers’ practice and survivors’ quality of life

• Extend knowledge and competence of providers and researchers in advancing cancer survivorship research

• Demonstrate appropriate multidisciplinary collaboration for research studies that will ensure delivery of evidence-based practice and care for cancer survivors

• Identify directions for future research to promote safe and high quality survivorship care related to late effects, psychosocial function, surveillance, and prevention

Target Audience• Researchers

• Physician-Scientists – across many clinical specialties

• Advanced-Level Providers

• Health care system leaders

• Trainees, fellows, and undergraduate students

• Health care professionals of all disciplines interested in the current and future benefits of mobile health technology

EXTENDED ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE – December 2, 2016, at 11:59 p.m. (CST)The Survivorship Research Advisory Workgroup invites you to submit an abstract for the 2017 State of the Science Symposium. The theme for this one-day Symposium is Advancing Cancer Survivorship Research Across Texas. We welcome research abstracts from oncology professionals, trainees, and students from all disciplines. The abstract categories relevant to the symposium theme include: surveillance, late effects, recurrent or secondary cancers, psychosocial concerns, educational initiatives, risk reduction and health promotion activities, and innovative interventions. How to submit an abstract: (Please note if you submit an abstract your fee is waived. Please register as Exempt on the registration form.)A REDCap online submission system will be used for abstract submissions. For detailed information on abstract guidelines and types of submission process, click here: http://j.mp/2c2C0c6. All abstracts should be submitted using the abstract submission form which is available through the REDCap link. Incomplete, unclear or late submissions will not be accepted. Up to 3 abstracts may be submitted by the same primary author. All abstracts must be received by December 2, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. (CST) If you have questions or need additional information, please contact Kathy Carpenter, MBA, at [email protected] or Guadalupe Palos, Dr.PH. from the Office of Cancer Survivorship at [email protected].

We encourage abstracts to address (but not limited to) one or more of the following objectives:

• Discuss emerging policies, legislation and legal issues that impact survivorship care and research across the cancer experience.

• Present groundbreaking research related to the impact of long-term physical and psychological effects on survivors, novel interventions to optimize health of diverse populations of survivors, their families and communities.

• Present novel interventions to enhance the well-being and health of cancer survivors across the trajectory of their experience.

• Explore opportunities to promote inter-professional collaboration, communication and research among scientists interested in survivorship science and care.
