BACKGROUND• Women and men have different capacities, strengths,

needs and vulnerabilities.

• Societal norms and expectations based on a person’sgender and diversity can impact individual and communityresilience.

• We need to ensure that all women, men, girls and boys,inclusive of age, disability, health status, social, religiousor ethnic group live in and actively contribute to inclusive,safe and resilient communities before, during and afterdisasters.

• MRC & the Department of Welfare which is under theMinistry of Women, Family and Community Development.

MAIN OBJECTIVES OF VISIT• Sharing of experiences on disability inclusion within the

community.

• Increase awareness of the work of the Department ofWelfare in the context of disaster risk reduction andemergency response.

• To speak with members of the community and understandtheir needs and benefits of the service on their daily lives.

• Encourage greater awareness so as to create greatercollaboration.

• Approximately 45 kilometres away.

• Depending on traffic, could be between 30 minutes to 1hour.
